check my brain, last of my kind, a looking in view, acid bubble and private hell are all examples that make it not a jerry cantrell record and an alice in chains record.

william sings a lot on the record, just not alone very much…oh wait thats exactly what jerry and layne did as well.

I’m definitely gonna buy this! I was planning to buy it since the news came that the band was in the studio! Black Gives Way To Blue is heavy, dark, aggressive and also melodic! It still has to grow on me just like Tripod did! But I love it!

I think they’ll win some Grammys for this, the Elton John association should help. It would be great if they won and dedicated it to Layne, since he said in 1996 that he wanted to win a Grammy badly.

I wonder what the next single will be, there are so many possibilities. Do they go with a ballad like Your Decision or Black Gives Way to Blue? Or do they do that for a third single?

I think they should release Last of My Kind as the second single, it’s a DuVall song and it really rocks. It also sounds straight off of Dirt. Nice melody and lyrics. Then they should release Your Decision or Black Gives Way to Blue as the third single.

Wow. Just…. WOW. Definitely a new sound, and I must say…I like it! Duvall may not sing w/ the pain and conviction that Layne did, but he delivers a new aura while remaining true to the vibe of Alice in Chains.

The thing I feel they needed to watch for was having too much of a prominence in Jerry’s vocals, as it does tend to sound alot like a Jerry Cantrell solo album. Jerry’s voice isn’t terrible by any means, but it belongs in harmonies or in the background- as he has a tendency to sound emotionless. My least favorite AiC songs are the ones with too much Jerry (i.e., Heaven Beside You, Over Now, etc…). My opinion on Jerry’s vocals is just….well, an opinion! I know many people really dig his voice, and that’s okay. I guess there’s a little bit of something for everybody in this album!

I would rate this album at an easy 9.5 / 10 – and it squashes anything currently out there, and anything made in the last few years for sure. This has Album of the Year written all over it!

Good job AiC!!! Now they just need to line up a tour date here at the Knitting Factory in Spokane, WA!
