SOUNDGARDEN REPORTEDLY IN TALKS TO REUNITE AT DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL
Soundgarden are reportedly in negotiations to reunite at the Download Festival in June 2010 in England. Nothing is set in stone, but Download promoter Andy Copping is apparently trying to get the band to reunite for the festival. Copping hinted on his Twitter account about Soundgarden a couple of months ago and has been implying recently that there will be a big reunion at the festival and he said a couple of weeks ago he confirmed a huge act. Alice In Chains are also rumored to play Download. Keep in mind these are all rumors and I’m reporting them because I thought it would interest you guys, but on the Download message board there are heavy rumors spreading and people who claim to have sources say Soundgarden and Alice In Chains are being pursued to play.

i will shit a castle
I’ll shit a Donnington sized castle too!
I’ll shit a plane ticket to England, then wipe it off out of courtesy, and use it to go there and see Soundgarden
No fricking way! Please oh please play here in the states. Don’t do like faith no more and not play here.
TERRIBLE NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE SOUNDGARDEN, BUT THIS REUNION IS GOING TO BE A DISASTER. IF ANYONE THINKS CHRIS CORNELL CAN STILL SING LIKE HE DID 15 YEARS AGO THEY ARE KIDDING THEMSELVES. I DON’T WANT TO SEE ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BANDS GET BACK TOGETHER AND BLOW IT…

If you think Chris doesn’t have the ability to sing like he used to then I STRONGLY advise you listen to his performance a few days ago when he got up on stage with Pearl Jam and played “Hunger Strike.” It’ll change your opinion straight up. If not, then if in fact they do reunite, everyone else will enjoy the reunion without you. Not trying to be a dick, just sayin is all.
hell yeah…this would safe rock and roll once again!!!
They´ll just have to tune the songs down abit like Led zep. did and RObert does when he sings their songs (solo)…it stil sounds great, maybe that´s just my opinion. I also saw chris 2 years ago…didn´t expect anything since we´ve all seen him with audioslave were his voice is…well, he´s not there anymore…and it blow my head of…that´s how powerfull and strong his “old” voice still is. Maybe that will also safe is career…let´s just “Scream” for comeback
Look, I’m just putting the facts out there. I’m tired of arguing with people who have this idea that the bands and singers and whomever else they support are infallible. Chris Cornell isn’t a religion, why can’t we have some level of objectivity here. His declining vocal ability is no fault of his own, it’s just what happens when you age.

NOW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1fpoSOcbgA
If this thing happens I’ll make sure to see one of my favorite bands, I’m just not expecting to hear a 25 year old Cornell up front.
@Recluse
First point I have: Let’s suppose Soundgarden never disbanded, just for one second, and pretend they are still together for the sake of getting this point across. Then, based on your logic, they should disband because Cornell’s voice isn’t as good as it was before. See how absurd that would sound?
Second point I have: You preach objectivity but you took ONE video of him having an extremely off night, two years ago no less, and believe that does justice to support your claim that he can’t sing anymore. How about a video from two weeks ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp7u_Xl9rmw . Is his voice the same as it was in the early 90s? No. But it’s a hell of a lot better than the video you showed from 2007 would indicate
Third and final point: Given Cornell’s vocal style and that he’s a rock singer, his night-by-night performance fluctuates like the stock market — he has very good nights and very bad nights. That was the case in 1991, and that is the case in 2009. I have a ton of terrible sounding Cornell performances from the early 90s from some live bootlegs where he sounds even worse than the links you posted. His strenuous vocal style is the cause of this inconsistency, much like Staley who had his fair share of ‘off nights’ but still brought his chops to the table and kicked ass. IMO Cornell is the most inconsistent singer of all the Seattle/grunge era bands, by far. But when he is on? Damn is it amazing.
@BeforeEyeDie – God bless you man!
I just found out the reunion isn’t going to happen. It should, but it hasn’t been discussed. The band is talking with lawyers and is working on the possibility of releasing a box set as well as the possibility of a full length album comprised from unreleased tracks previously recorded.
