As fans dig out their flannel shirts for grunge rockers Pearl Jam’s Christchurch concert on Sunday, organisers are busy with final site preparations.
Helen Glengarry, business development manager of ticketed events for venue manager Vbase, said preparations for the AMI Stadium show began in August.
“It is a massive event.
“Just as an example, we’ve got 60 portable toilets in addition to the stadium toilets and we’ve had to order things like 50,000 bottles of water and a phenomenal amount of french fries.
“We’ll have a team of 450 staff on deck and all are integral to the event. Now, all we need is the weather to be great.”
The MetService long-range forecast is for a few early showers, then fine weather with a northeast breeze and a 21 degrees Celsius high.
Vbase expected a 30,000-capacity crowd.
“There are a lot of people coming from out of town for it and it’s a great boost for the city and it shows promoters that Christchurch people will support these big shows,” Glengarry said.
Chugg Entertainment group managing director Matthew Lazarus-Hall said staging such an event was a mammoth undertaking.
“There’s a massive stage to set up and, logistically, it takes a lot of organisation to have everything running smoothly.
“We haven’t done a big show in Christchurch like this for a long time.
“I’m sure they’ve [Pearl Jam] got something special planned for Christchurch, it’s the last show of the tour.”
