ARE CAGE THE ELEPHANT INFLUENCED BY GRUNGE?

Just checked out some Cage the Elephant. They’re a new band and they released their debut album this year, above is the music video for their song “Back Against The Wall.” They wear flannel, they sound different, and the video seems pretty influenced by Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box.” Nice to see a band with talent and good taste crack the mainstream. From what I read they’ve had a couple of songs do quite well on the radio. Do you think Cage the Elephant have been influenced by Grunge?

They’re good but they lack the sonic boom that most of the grunge bands had. I’ve expected a better chorus.
No.

Actually, I downloaded their album and they sound fucking good but their songs are more funk/punk influenced. More of a Red Hot Chili Peppers. They’re pretty fucking good. Download them and give them a chance!
Early RHCP.
I saw them open for Manchester Orchestra and Silversun Pickups a few months ago. I didn’t want to like them, but Cage is slowly growing on me. I wouldn’t call them grunge, or even grunge-influenced though I don’t think.
If you are looking for new bands with a grunge influence, check out a couple of Manchester Orchestra’s songs.
I’m thinking of their song “Pride”, to me a mix of grunge and maybe a touch of Black Sabbath.
Sounds a little like Everclear but not any of the grunge Gods. At least not this tune.
I give them grunge-influenced, or atleast 90’s influenced, they awesome
I thought so, they’re wonderful though. One of the best bands to come out recently.
they have the quiet-LOUD-quiet thing
Yeah I change my mind, they are definitely grunge-influenced.

We had to cancel a whole USA tour last summer because Matt tore a cartilage in his knee after stage diving. It’s actually on YouTube. We did a cover of “Killing in the Name of†and he crowd-surfed to the back and climbed up a balcony 15 feet up and then jumped into a crowd of people. This beer bottle stabbed into his ribs.

so they are definitely RAtM fans… that’s getting in the ballpark of grunge.
