BREAKING NEWS: SOUNDGARDEN CONFIRM THAT THEY ARE REUNITING

soundgarden96

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has confirmed on Twitter that Soundgarden IS BACK TOGETHER.  I feel like I’m dreaming.  Cornell posted the following on Twitter:

The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!

Soundgarden have also launched a new website called SoundgardenWorld.com.  GrungeReport.net has reported reunion rumors all along, and I reported the stories because I believed in them.  It turns out it was true all along.  I cannot even express how excited I am right now.  As of right now in 2010 Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Mudhoney are active bands.  Grunge is alive and well and the rumors have been true all along.  GRUNGE LIVES!

And STP…and did i mention Pearl Jam?

  • Brett (author) said:

Forgot to mention STP, I’ve had a few drinks so I apologize. So happy though, I keep pinching myself to make sure this isn’t a dream. Thank god this reunion is happening, or I’d look like an uncredible asshole for reporting all 900 Soundgarden reunion rumors.

This is great. Seen them at lolapalooza the year metallica headlined but not the same as a “soundgarden” show. Was going to see AIC open for metallica in 93 or 94 when over the radio it was announced that Layne was going to rehab so candlebox took over. NOOOOOO!!!

My only question is if PJ are going to tour, how will the drumming situation play out???

  • Andrew said:

So now this is crappening… I wouldn’t be surprised if Nirvana got back together at this point. I’ll kill whomever I need to in order to get tickets, but I know I’m going to be disappointed. For the reunion they’ve got some older lookalike that has no tone left in his voice and strains to hit high notes. The guy who sings in the video on their website was killed off roughly 10 years ago today.

We don’t need to discuss this further. Believe what you want.

  • Junior said:

Aside from me getting married, this is the greatest shit ever!

  • Brett (author) said:

Andrew, it’s definitely not Susan Silver, haha. That we know for sure.

  • AIC said:

YES!!!! now pearl jam should get dave abbruzzese back on drums

  • Marie said:

FINALLY!!!! All my bands are back together. What is going to happen to Matt?? I really hope PJ doesn’t lose their greatest drummer.

But DAMN I am so happy I could cry!!!

  • Andrew said:

It’s nice to see the “Eddie Vedder Political Story” headlines dropping off the most commented feed. :)

  • Aaron said:

I think I was the first mention it in the forums like 10 mins after midnight of 1/1/10 I almost screamed till my lungs collapsed with joy! I read it on his myspace. Needles to say I think I got the gold star, cause the band is back! Soundgarden for life!

Yesssssssssss the Year of GRUNGE YESSSSSSS YESSSSS hell Yes, Yipppie!!

  • Andrei said:

Mary holy mother of Christ… This is INCREDIBLE! Fuck yeah!!!!

  • niki said:

i hope that Pearl Jam’s mgmt team takes on Soundgarden. PJ have been expertly managed their entire career by Kelly. would be great. Also, Alice in Chains is no longer manager by Susan Silver, either. I have a funny feeling maybe most of this 12-year fuck up was because the lead member of the band was married to the manager and that just is NOT good in any way. don’t shit where you eat, man.

  • Matt said:

You have to give Susan Silver a lot of credit though, she was a bit part in getting soundgarden off the ground, it wouldnt be to hard to suggest that without her soundgarden might not be, or might not be the same band they were/are

  • niki said:

matt, i agree, she is probably a top-notch manager because as i think about the bands from that era who’s legacy kind of never got messed up in the “break”, it would be AiC and SG. they were always the most mysterious and elusive of the Grunge bands… which was great!! i am just hoping whomever the manager was for CC solo gets the boot. bad, bad management.

  • Pete said:

I dunno who was in charge for “Scream” but for people that dont know, the release of that was really screwed up somehow. The release date got pushed back from September 5-6 times until it finally came out in February. Songs from Scream were featured in Septemeber on “One Tree Hill” (yes, yes, I know, I know). I dont what went wrong but clearly doing lots of advertising 6 months before the CD comes out was clearly a major fk up.

  • Brett (author) said:

I never knew songs from Scream were on One Tree Hill. Proves that shitty show’s inferiority to The OC which used a Mark Lanegan song!

Scream was fucked with a lot, it got pushed back a ton and they released a shit load of singles that all bombed on radio. People just didn’t want to hear Cornell singing over crappy drum beats.

  • Pete said:

    In defense of Scream:

    1) It was new Chris Cornell material, it’s always awesome to hear his voice

    2) the music was good, it just took a few listens to get over the shock of hearing Chris Cornell sing over beats

    3) We got the great and moody Two Drink Minimum

    4) playing with his band live, the songs obviously have a much more rock-ier style and they appeal more to us Soundgarden/Audioslave grunge fans.

Overall, I think Scream is actually a good album top to bottom. It’s just not many people give it a chance.

Would I have take Scream over a fourth Audioslave album? Of course not. Hell, I’d even taken Carry on Part 2 over it. But it’s still a good album.

the first good news of the year

  • Arnaud said:

YESSSSSSSSS finally I was out of town for a week and I had a feeling that when I was coming back I’d have a good surprise regarding Soundgarden!! I thought it would be a box set release but a reunion is even better. Happy new year everyone!!!

  • Arkeyd said:

Ohhhhhhh yeah! i was sure! the first best notice of the year!
    but how will stay PJ?

  • shaungreenly said:

    Holy Heck!!!!!!! I am speechless!!!!!!!!!

  • Robert said:

Oh my God I just came back from Boston and I am excited oh yeah. I love this news.

  • Andrew said:

So I guess this means Chris is going to pick up the guitar again? (PLEASE GOD DON’T LET THEM HIRE SOME GUY TO PLAY BEHIND THE AMPS). Anyway, I always thought Chris looked uncomfortable singing and playing guitar at the same time, and since I’ve thought he’s really been very focused on his vocals. I mean visually as an audience member it has looked to me as he is really focused all of his energy and attention on singing the songs as well as he can. And in old SG performances it has looked to me like he was devoting a lot of the attention to his guitar playing and perhaps sacrificing a better vocal performance.

    Maybe it’s just me…

  • Ian said:

It looks like finally there is a reaction to all the shitty music that we had in the last 10 years.

    Happy new year everyone!

  • aydin soner said:

He was lookin cool when he was playin guitar and singing & headbanging ;)
and i think it s time to pick and put them together those guitars that Cornell had destroyed for the album Scream.. hahaha

  • Ger said:

    and matt?

I hope Dave abbruzzese join PEarl jam again!!

  • Chris said:

Im hearing new SG songs……new PJ songs………how cool would a new TEMPLE OF THE DOG ALBUM BE??????

I know the project started as a couple tunes for A. Wood but I would love to hear what those 2 bands could put together now. A little worroed it was so good because of the vibe they had back then but I would surely give it a chance. Hell, since that album we have lost some important front men………Cobain, Hoon, Staley, etc…… Those are some good song topics.

  • Ben said:

I agree a new ‘temple of the dog’ album would be amazing!!! It would need to keep the similar style to the original album – vocal and guitar wise. Long epic guitar solos and cornell’s long vocal range.

With Chris Cornell’s matured song writing as well as Eddie Vedder and the rest of the band they could really make some “magic”!!

  • CourtneyLover said:

i hope they record a new record next year..

  • carrie said:

in my mind they never were apart…cept then no audioslave WHICH I LOVE! Im just thrilled! woo hoo

  • matias said:

The return of Dave Abbruzzese to Pearl jam!!…that would be great!!
