HOLE FAN RESPONDS TO NEGATIVE WASHINGTON DC SHOW REVIEW
Greg Frederick posted this on Facebook:
Did you see his (Perez Hilton’s) post for the DC show? He got some messed up info.
My comment:
This is completly unfair and things need to be cleared up. I was at the show.
She was not an hour late. There was an hour between Hole going on and the opening band finishing. With taking down the previous band, tuning and setting up Hole, I’d say there were maybe 15mins late.
Hole played for 2 1/2 hours, for any real Hole fan this was the best show ever as she was playing to them. Many songs that she was forgetting cords to was do to her not going off a set list and instead was taking requests of her various amounts of back catalog. She commented ‘I know you people in the back just want to here Celebrity Skin, but we have a day off tomorrow so were playing to our fans who know all our songs, but you’ll get to hear all your old favorites too.’
Her assistant was onstage, but wasn’t bad or hurt the show in anyway. She did make the comment to the fan in the audience, but Perez you have taken that out of context, she was joking and with a smile, and ended up singing to the fan then letting him onstage a song or two later.
She did commented that she had not talked so much at a show in 10 years. She was spending time explaining old lyrics and whom they are about and other times were chatting to fans in front and bringing them onstage to sit to the side and rock out with her.
I feel a show where the band actually interacts with the audience should get more respect than playing the exact same show every night and just changing the name of the city when they talk to the audience.
She did not really repeat songs. She did two versions of a new song ‘Pretty Your Whole Life’ which she was working out to see the audiences reaction as to which should be used in the future.
Along with taking requests she had to remember to play them as many times her new talented new band members did not have known the B-Sides, so she’d do it herself and with the help of the audience worked out the lyrics and rhythm as she had no backup.
For all the songs she has been playing, regularly they were perfect. Yes, by the end of the show her voice was cracking, but must admit her songs are not the easiest to sing or scream in her style and a result was her voice cracking on some of the more powerful songs.
For the African-American thing, again it was a joke. And don’t recall the Lil’ Wayne comment. She got the girl onstage and let her sing with her. The audience was not offended, if you saw the girl who was tall and fabulous you would have not thought she was into rock. Stereotype maybe, but it was not in malice and was just a joke. She brought up another fan who was of African decent and told the audience, ‘I love my black fans’ and recalled the lyrics to a song ‘gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, big black men.’ And Courtney has a black brother, so I doubt she raciest at all. (like your trying to make it sound)
When pulling up fans she said I don’t want any weirdos who are going to be screaming out stuff or running up to me. A girl came on stage and ran to Courtney with a poster and pen, and she told her ’site down, we’ll get to that later, sit over there we want to play more.’
There’s no lie about her assistant telling the crowd to scream louder to get her back out. Before the encore she was onstage and the rest of the band wasn’t as she had just been playing a couple of songs by herself. She realized she was supposed to do an encore and said she’d be right back after she changed.
Usually a crowd will go crazy to get the band back out, but I feel as she told them she’d be right back, they didn’t’ need to and so her assistant (not her handler), helped get the energy back up by telling the crowed she had a guy waiting for her. The assistant ‘I’d go have sex over toughs screams, they need to be better than sex.’
She did come out with boobs out behind a shear dress, but for her age or even a 25 yr olds, she has some great breasts. So I say good for her, and yes she did end up putting on a bra shortly after with the help of an audience member who she then gave ‘all the merch she wanted’ for her help.
There was a comment about ‘This being a really weird show, I can’t tell if it’s really terrible or epic.’ She also kept asking the audience if they would like her to just play the stuff they knew, but ended by giving them choices in which they audience went crazy when they heard the rarities she had not played live in over 10 years.
I don’t recall anyone leaving the show, but after the show did see hundreds of thrilled fans outside chatting how great it was and how it was one of the best shows they have ever seen.
If this show was filmed for a music special you would have been blown away on how exciting and fun it was and how she’s still on-top of her game and how great her new band members are, though her voice might go after a couple of hours. I don’t know anyone else with her singing style who could do a 2 1/2 hour show after a full week of shows.
Maybe next time you write a review, you’ll get all the story straight. Sounds like you go some miss information from someone who wasn’t much a fan.
Some missing fun facts I think you would have rather written about….
One fun fact she told the audience, that Hole had recored another song for the ‘Be A Man’ soundtrack, featuring Lil’ Kim and she admitted it was the worst song she ever wrote and that’s why it never got released.
She performed Trent Reznor’s ‘Closer’ in which she said ‘I could have wrote this, and the person who did will be pi**ed when he finds out I’m covering it.’ She went straight into a Judy Garland song ‘Man Who Got Away,’ where she told her audience I’m doing that one for my gays. ‘I think Judy made up her gays, my gay fans are real.’
Yes they are. -Greg

Some one post a setlist

fuck that bitch!
I was at the show. She forgot the words to Celebrity Skin, Miss World, Violet, these aren’t songs from her “back catalog”, the majority of the songs weren’t even played to finish.
Asking For It, Jennifer’s Body, Plump, Olympia, Boys on the Radio – “back catalog”? These songs were totally f’d up.
And yes, she was late. I attend shows at 9:30 club frequently, the headliners usually hit the stage around 9:30. My friends and I arrived around 9:20, Foxy Shazam had already finished, Hole didn’t take the stage until after 10 pm.
The club was pretty full before Hole took the stage, but people started funneling out after about an hour into the show.
The show was a complete debacle, Courtney was a complete self absorbed train wreck. The Washington Post review and Perez’s are spot on.
Here’s the setlist as posted at setlist.fm:

I was there too…Greg on facebook is absolutley spot on. My version of events match his….There are some false statements and false reports out there on this concert. It is ridiulous. However, I already posted my opinion in the other section of this website so I will not repeat…read that if you want. It is a comment under the actual review on this website.
It seems that people either loved or hated this show, much like Courtney herself. And from what I have seen on youtube and heard from people who went, it appears that Courtney catered this show to hardcore fans, spending time talking with them and playing their requests (even if she couldn’t remember the words and/or chords) and getting them up on stage to sit or sing with her. Unusual show yes, and some people may not have liked it, but this show is the stuff legeds are made of. People will still be talking about it 10 years from now.
@Michael I doubt that.
