BILLY CORGAN SAYS HE WOULD LOVE TO BE A JUDGE ON AMERICAN IDOL, TRASHES LAPTOP ROCK

By: 16 March 2012 8 Comments

Spinner has reported that Billy Corgan claimed he would “love” to be a judge on American Idol. Corgan also stated, “I don’t have a problem with ‘Idol’ or ‘X Factor,’ I have a problem with when those things are not given the proper contextual hue,” he said. “If there’s an ‘American Idol’ there should be a proper alternative counterbalance — if there was hair metal, there was grunge, know what I mean?”

As such, Corgan said he can respect shows like ‘American Idol’ for being transparent in their aim, unlike most modern rock music, which he refers to as Laptop Rock due to its ability to blend into the background while one works.

“Laptop Rock is not the adequate response for ‘American Idol’ — and everybody knows it.”

Billy hehe… i mean sure he can be a judge on idol. Why not. But can he really give other people advice on singing? I love the pumpkins , the real smashing pumpkins but Billy’s voice never grabbed me like Cornell’s , Vedder’s or Layne’s did. Mediocre at best in my eyes. With that being said , he is a great musician/guitar player. Some of the pumpkins riffs are genius .
