BILLY CORGAN TALKS DATING JESSICA SIMPSON, SAYS JAMES IHA AVOIDED HIM IN PUBLIC

By: 20 June 2012 30 Comments

Billy Corgan did a near hour and 20 minute interview on The Howard Stern Show yesterday. He performed an acoustic version of “Tonight, Tonight” and discussed a variety of topics including his romantic past, his best friend forever James Iha, and much more. Here are some notes.

-Mentioned in 1997 D’arcy said she wanted to be an actress, thought her connections would get her big roles. Mentioned to her that people dedicated their whole lives to it, how did she expect to do it with no experience?

-Said James Iha negotiated solo deal in 1995 behind his back and never told him about it as it was going down. He said Iha “felt like a repressed artist” in the Pumpkins. He said as Iha’s friend and bandmate at the time, he would have liked to have given him some pointers and help on his songs. For the record, Billy said in an interview on KROQ in February 1996, “I think our man Iha’s gonna make a solo record, cause it’s time for him to bust out.” Iha’s solo album was released in 1998.

-Said the last time he saw James Iha was a week after 9/11 in New York. James was talking to somebody, and Billy wanted to go talk to him, he looked back there a few minutes later and James was gone. He left right when he saw Billy.

-Said he was tested for musical amplitude at age 7 and tested higher than anybody the history of the state of Illinois.

-His relationship with his father has improved since his father’s latest drug arrest 4-5 years ago for heroin possession. Billy helped him despite being burned many times, and his father is currently clean. Said he communicates with his stepmother who used to beat him as well. Mentioned that Jesus preaches forgiveness.

-Billy says he is single, he’s still in love with Jessica from the Veronicas but they’re broken up. Said they “couldn’t see eye to eye.” Was vague about the breakup, when asked if she cheated on him he said, “I don’t want to talk about any of that.”

-Howard’s favorite song from Oceania is Violet Rays, that’s the song he chose to play.

-Billy said he “Sort of kind of went out” with Jessica Simpson. Talked about what a great person she is, said she’s different than the media perceives her to be. Billy said Jessica liked her because he told her the truth, rather than many of the Yes people she’s surrounded by. He said he didn’t dump her and she didn’t dump him, it was mutual.

-Howard and Billy spent a lot of time praising Neil Young.

-Billy on Courtney Love, “Look no further than her attacking her own daughter, I mean it’s her daughter! I mean I can understand, Attack the whole world, attack your kid? Obviously what happened with her father, she’s had to grow up with Courtney right? And I’ve been there I’ve lived with them; I know what that world is like. For her to make her daughter’s life any more difficult for a daughter who shuns publicity, doesn’t want it, I mean it’s just like wow can you leave your own kid out of this?”

Not saying goodbye to Jimmy and Billy after the last show was a douche move from Iha.

    DARTH IHA!

I hope people stop asking Billy about James. Let’s move on people. Iha made alot of mistakes, Billy made alot of mistakes. Now let’s move on.

Hey I didn’t know Jessica from the Veronicas and Billy weren’t together anymore, did you guys know that?

She’s from Australia so I figured… Oceania…. so it seems like quite a big deal..

This album is just SO amazing, it’s like everything is possible for Billy. If that is his “Siamese part 2″ then I can’t wait for the double album that’s follow! ;)

Truly though Billy must build on the incredible momentum right now!!!

    Welcome to BillCoReport.

Ok, while I agree with a good portion of his opinions, he’s starting to get annoying. Can someone else be boisterous and give this guy a break?

Cornell gives pretty boring interviews so we won’t get anything fun from him. Eddie and Weiland are rarely interviewed, Eddie seems at peace and Weiland is usually flat out lying half the time.

Yo what is wrong with an eloquent artist?! All love Billy. And all love to Brett for covering Sp despite the critics. They belong on your site no doubt. :)

I thought Courtney made Billy out to be in unrequited love with her in past quotes. I guess he is not that blind, due to his comments about Frances. I agree 100% with him that Courtney should be leaving Frances alone.

Obviously Billy makes a good interview, because he gets into the “dirt” of things. When he goes on and on in multiple outlets, it gets tedious and annoying, and often makes himself sound like an ass…but it is always controversial or interesting. As annoyed as I get by his verbal diarrhea sometimes, there are some other musicians out there that I wish would set the record straight on themselves and their bands’ history.

    Just not quite so often.

Uh no Brett. Cornell doesn’t talk like an ass in interviews- which does not equal boring. He speaks with more dignity than Corgan. And by ‘fun’ you obviously mean ‘sensational tabloid fodder’ to go with your sensationalized story headlines. Is there any headline NOT meant to get a rise out of your readers? Is this the National Enquirer a la Grunge? What happened to straightforward brokering of music news?

What did Scott Weiland lie about?

  • Matt A said:

LOL, I’d rather listen to Chris talk about quantum physics than Billy talk about how amazing he is.

I mean no disrespect to Brett. I love the site. Just getting tired of Billy C spouting off in general. It was invigorating the first few times. But now he’s whoring himself for attention and it’s obvious.

Love to see what James Iha has to say about all these thing Douchebag here is saying. Im sure Billy is a piece of shit as well.

“Said he was tested for musical amplitude at age 7 and tested higher than anybody the history of the state of Illinois.” What a Douche!

    Fuck that chicago animal

Chris Cornell is very well spoken and an intelligent guy, notice I used the word “fun.” I didn’t say his interviews weren’t informative. There’s not anything fun because he usually doesn’t say anything controversial, thus “boring” compared to a Corgan interview.

Weiland lied about Velvet Revolver reuniting this year. Obviously he may have misunderstood his ex-bandmates, but he lied by all accounts, possibly trying to force Slash’s hand. He also said STP were planning a coffee table book/Core reissue with bonus material for this year, and said in 2010 that STP would do their own festival type traveling show. I think sometimes he just gets overly optimistic, but he basically states that ideas of his will happen as a matter of fact.

    @Brett

We all want you to do report more on your feeling about Weiland’s X-mas album. Favourite track? Favourite moment???

    lala,

The best thing about that whole thing was the Winter Wonderland video. So fucking hilarious. I’ve shown that to people and they literally look shocked.

  • Matt A said:

When I first saw it, I was shocked, just because it was so far out and weird. Then I kind of accepted it realizing who we were dealing with here.

  • Stone Temple Pirate said:

    I guess your right

STP Traviling Festival act really would have been cool

  • redhead said:

awww i love Jessica (Simpson)! finally, Bully news I actually want to read! ;)

  • paulonious said:

Billy knows no one gives a shit about an interview that discusses the music, so he promotes his new record by talking about soap opera trash like he’s part of pop culture.

He’ll be fucking trending in no time, and his record sales are going to increase because of it (“the pumpkins released a new album?? no way!”). as much as everyone hates him, he’s fucking brilliant.

  • John said:

lala, you seem to have a love/hate relationship with Brett here. He posts Smashing Pumpkins stories and you want to deep throat him, but when he merely mentions STP, you resort to your immortal, hilarious Christmas album jokes. Believe me, that joke will never get old so please continue. You need to make up your mind, though. Do you love Brett, or do you hate him?

    Love,
    John

    @John

I cry everytime I see Weiland’s Winter Wonderland video. You can see just how much effort he put into it. The greasy hair, the brown coat, the red scarf, the christmas smile and his magical, blurry drunken eyes. The man screams christmas cheer. Remember when he beat his wife? If that is not christmas than I don’t know what is …

Scott Weiland: “Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way …”
