BARRETT MARTIN FORMS NEW SUPERGROUP FEATURING DUFF MCKAGAN & MIKE MCCREADY
Thanks to Paul K:
Walking Papers is a new blues-rock band formed by Jeff Angell and Barrett Martin, two long-serving veterans of the Seattle music scene. Jeff previously sang and played guitar for the bands Post Stardom Depression and The Missionary Position, and Barrett, a drummer and multi-instrumentalist, played for grunge pioneers Skin Yard and Screaming Trees, as well as the super groups Mad Season and Tuatara…
This debut album features a stellar cast of additional musicians who have each added their unique musical voice to the album: Visceral bass lines from Duff McKagan (Guns & Roses, Velvet Revolver), blistering guitar solos from Mike McCready (Pearl Jam, Mad Season), elegant keyboard stylings from Benjamin Anderson, and soulful horn arrangements from Dave Carter (Trumpet), Dan Spalding (Baritone Sax), and Ed Ulman (Trombone). The album was recorded by Catherine Ferrante at Avast Studios in Seattle, and mixed by Jack Endino at Soundhouse in Seattle. Mastering was done by Chris Hanzsek at Hanzsek Audio. The album will be released on October 2, 2012.
Walking Papers show on their debut album that a great song can be conveyed through percolating marimbas, vibraphone, piano, and trumpet, just as easily as it can with thundering drums, bass, and a howling guitar solo. The songs on this album stand alone as individual stories, but taken together as a whole, they tell a much larger narrative that conveys the tales of wandering souls, the collisions of will, and the dark beauty of the American heart that is ever searching for truth and meaning in a collapsing world.

I’m sold.
I approve of this message.
Sounds good to me!!!
I’ve always thought Duff and Mike should be in a band together.
Sounds kick ass! Can’t wait for full album!
Glad to see Duff doing well – I always thought he was a good bassist.
every supergroup in grunge has turned out to be phenomenal. Temple of the Dog, Mad Season, and hopefully Walking Papers will become as great and memorable as those two legendary groups.
I bought The Missionary Position’s album before it was taken off iTunes for some reason, best decision I’ve made
Will still check it out altho I def don’t have have mad love for duff, but hearing Barrett and Mike together again will be a nice holdover until new mad season disc.
My biggest concern however: how many songs will Mike be playing on?
Good stuff.
I love these unexpected releases!
Awesome, I’m checking this out!
Track # 8 : I’ll stick around??
Doesnt the Foo Fighters first album have a song called I’ll Stick Around?
I hope its a cover
Good one, Mayan. Now go fuck yourself.
I wonder if this will be available on PJs website. I hope its not just a download-only thing. But it sounds great. Mike is so good when he does stuff outside of PJ (not that he’s not amazing with PJ). PJ needs to let Mike go crazy and jam more often so they don’t play 30+ song setlists every night. Listen to him do Killing Floor at Experience Hendrix in 2008. He’s a great blues guitarist.
This stuff sounds really good, I love blues-rock bands, and in this case with Barret Martin, Duff McKagan and Mike McCready… BTW, I didn’t know Jeff Angell, he has a very good voice and is very talented at guitar.
Kill me, my life is complete.
quote of the week!?!?
“Dreux said:
Good one, Mayan. Now go fuck yourself.”
two words: BAD ASS!!
Looking forward to the rest of the tracks
Side note…I didn’t know Steve Nash was such a talented musician/singer
Damnit, have to wait until October for everything. The world could end before then.
Layne, please come back–we need you, man!

Don’t get me wrong, Duff is a good bassist, but wouldn’t it really have been cool if Krist Novoselic had joined the band?
Very soon the world will know who Jefferson Angell is! Check out his other band Missionary Position for a taste of what he can do. Jeff really knows how to bring it vocally and in performance.
Nice, thanks
great sound.. i hear hendrix.. kinda audioslave without chris on vocals..
and ofcourse the sound of seattle!

Just watched that, and now I’m extremely pumped for this album. Holy shit these guys rock hard.
Barrett Martin is a percussive monster.
Mike plays guitar solos on only 2 tracks:
Track 2 (The Whole World’s Watching) and Track 8 (I’ll Stick Around)
Really looking forward to this album release. Sounds great so far.
