GREG DULLI TALKS AFGHAN WHIGS REUNION & SUPERGROUP WITH DAVE GROHL
Here are a couple of excerpts from RollingStone.com‘s new interview with Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli:
On Afghan Whigs reunion: “Like life, [there have been] good times and bad times. But that’s the way it is in any band. Everybody’s cool, and honestly, we’re having a good time. I don’t do things that aren’t a good time, not anymore. I don’t have to.”
On the time his one off supergroup, Backbeat featuring Dave Grohl, almost reunited, “”Foo Fighters were playing Jazz Fest…I got contacted by my friend who runs a club called One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans. I was like, hey, I’m here! We could do it. We made that record in, like, 24 hours. Each song was two minutes long. I could [still] sing those songs now with no problem.”

I just got into this band a few months ago when I heard “Debonair” on a 90s Alternative Rock station. Good band and Gentlemen is a good album.
Best fucking band ever.
I just saw the Afghan Whigs at the Metro Saturday and it was fucking amazing. Best show I have ever been to. Greg Dulli is such a fun frontman to watch and the crowd danced more than I’ve ever seen a crowd dance before. I’ve got tickets to see them again in October and I can’t wait!
I’ve always liked Afghan Whigs, but I guess I’m a casual fan. What’s the news on the recent shows? Is it new material, or are they just playing their old songs? I hope to god there’s new stuff, as Dulli’s solo work was pretty solid.
yeah backbeat, the grunge beatles as they were called then.
Dave Pirner was in the line up too. How about soul asylum coverage Brett?
@Craigory52: enjoy the ride man!
Ah Afghan Whigs, one of the great red-headed step children of the 90s alternative rock music. On a sidenote, how great was Greg’s version of Cohen’s ‘Paper Thin Hotel’?
Saw AW in Melbourne two weeks ago, waited all my life to see ‘em live and they were fckn amazing. Good setlist of old and newer songs. Age group ranged from young to fckn old like and shit they put on a good show for all of us there. People came from Papua New Guinea and even Malaysia and the place rocked at the HI-FI…Glad I got to see these guys, the wait was certainly worth it and hope they come back real soon! They got a HUGE RECEPTION from all of us with Greg remarking, “why did we take so long to get here”…Fck I dunno why, maybe drugs, rehab and other collaborations with i.e Mark held him up but gee are we glad they all did get here. The Band were on fire, Greg did Guitar and Keys and greg’s singig was bloody awesome, made us all smile, laugh and jump…yep I’m mean just like old 90′s days, there was jumping, the whole crowd was on fire, appreciateing their performance. Bloody great night…Greg don’t wait another lifetime before you get back here again, will yah!
They played “newer songs” as in brand new songs, or from their last released album before they broke up? I’d like to know if this is a legitimate reformation or just a cash in like Pavement, Soundgarden, Pixies, etc..
They released two new covers lately of Marie Queenie Lyons’ “See and Don’t See” and Frank Ocean’s “Lovecrimes”, both which are awesome, but they aren’t disclosing whether they plan on making a new album together or not. They say they are taking it as it goes.
I hope they decide on a new album. Nothing sadder than a nostalgia reunion.
