Congratulations guys, you’ll make me change sides some day -.- I think grunge fans are the coolest people in the world for having a very good taste in music – but they’re most of the time very intolerant, too. Chris Cornell opens for Obama, Pearl Jam plays with Jay-Z and a lot of offended fans. Come’on it is Jay-Z not a run-of-the-mil rapper! He writes very intelligent lyrics and is a little legend. And isn’t it allowed that Pearl Jam shares the stage with him for one the song – guys they don’t record an album together!! Fans like you aren’t open to the development of their favourite band. Artists have to carry on and cannot do the same thing for decades!

Yeah I was there guys and it really wasn’t that bad, it was a “in the moment” kind of thing. Trust me I only went to the festival to see Cornell (before he fucking backed out) and PJ. If someone would have told me about the collaboration beforehand I would have been really disappointed in them, but all they did was play the back riff/rhythm and Jay-Z rapped over it. Really not a big deal and was cool them giving kudos to Jay-Z since he was the host of the festival (even though I’m not a big fan). I, too, would rather them not play these types of festivals, but damn they blew it up last night. The crowd was freaking out of control in a good way and there’s nothing like hearing McCready’s guitar echo through the Parkway.

It’s such honest music, with awesome grooves — those old Parliament samples are incredible. That, and Soundgarden, of course. It’s always awesome to see them play night after night. The Peppers are an amazing band, and they were really cool to us when we toured together; they went out of their way to take care of us. Eddie incited riots a couple of times, and we were going to be forced to pay for the damage, but the Peppers took care of it. We really love playing with them”, Mike McCready.
“I think the Lollapalooza lineup is great. Ice Cube is probably the most exciting for me, too, just because I’m such a huge fan. Right now, he makes the greatest rap records around. I’m really interested in seeing how his show comes across live. Other than that, any time you have the Chili Peppers and Soundgarden together, it’s going to be cool. Ministry could be interesting; I’ve never seen them live, but I’ve heard great things about them. I hear the singer is a totally “out there” dude. I have no idea whatsoever what Lush and the Jesus and Mary Chain are like. My impression is that they’re a little more low-key than the rest of us”, Stone Gossard.

PJ can do want they want. But if you have a rock band doing country songs they are no longer at that point a rock band. Since this is a one time thing right? They get a lame pass from PJamers who love anything they do. But for a band that was part of the grunge movement they seem to have said loudly that grunge is dead for them.
Backspacer is a perfect example and so is Olé a song that is the weird direction they are going for at times.

Every show PJ does is unique and almost always includes some kind of collaboration with other artists. They always share their stage and have some fun with some of the openers or surprise guests. They also go to the effort to pay tribute to where they are playing and their audience. It makes perfect sense to share the stage with their host and try something hip hop at the MIA festival. Kudos to a great band doing their thing and mixing it up on stage. If you dont like it, thats cool, but im not sure how that equates to sell out. Imho that is the best part of festivals – seeing unique moments of a variety of artists doing something out of the ordinary.

Jay-Z was topping off the festival he put together- saying good night and thank you with some help from the closing act. It’s not like Ed was rapping or that the rest of the setlist wasnt pure PJ, they just had some fun on stage with another artist – backing him at his gig. You may not think PJ should have played at MIA, but they chose to, as did Cornell before he had to back out. Ok! Ok! Dam guys back off, It’s just my opinion ok. Here’s what I think happened.
Eddie Vedder got a spot in a rock and roll band
Use to be Mother Love Bone now their Pearl Jam
Now Ed he’s a real Intellectual
Can’t understand a dam thing he’s sayin but hey, he’s sexual
He once had the balls to battle ticketmaster
For Pearl Jam it became a total di Zaster
So they caved in and said “ just let it be”
After MTV banned part of JEREMY
20 years later at an outdoor show
There all warmed up and their ready to go
But Pearl Jams feelin just a little distress
Cause you know JZ he’s the host of the fest
Maybe Pearl Jams just a little misunderstood
Cause their all from Seattle and JZs from the hood
Now you’all know JZ, he’s a big rap omnipotent
Pearl Jams in another dam predicament
he’s got the money and the bling and a beautiful life
He’s been Commerialized, Sensationalized with his hot lookin wife
Now JZ he wants to collaborate with Pearl Jam
I don’t think it’s a good idea, but what the hell I’m just a fan
Now we got JZ, he’s runnin the show
What’s Pearl Jam gona do? They gona say no?
Well Jeff and Stone they don’t know what to do
Cause without Mike McCready they’d be totally screwed

Yikes at some of the comments here. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me. I am a person who loves grunge and *gasp* rap [some of it, anyways, not like Lil' Wayne]. Jay Z has created some decent songs with a lot of decent artists, like Kanye West and Frank Ocean. I am a fan of both Pearl Jam and Jay Z, and I have nothing against them jamming together. I was on Tumblr the other day and saw a picture of Beyonce [Happy Birthday to her, by the way] admiring Eddie’s picture. Jay Z is obviously a huge Pearl Jam fan, other wise they wouldn’t have been at his festival. I admit, this surprised me at first, but I support the band no matter what. What really made me upset was when Chris Cornell backed out of the concert, at seemingly last minute, to go preform at an Obama rally.
Speaking of rap and grunge, remember a thing called Weezy’s 90′s Ball, a Lil’ Wayne mixtape consisting of Lil’ Wayne/grunge mashups? That was awful. Life changes, as does everything. If PJ wants to rap with Jay Z on ONE track at a festival that Jay Z himself helped put together, that’s alright. I remember a while back when Jay Z was on a track with a band called Linkin’ Park when they did something called “Numb/Encore” in the era of rap/rock.
Pearl Jam is still a favorite of mine!

Pearl Jam has always been outspoken about alot of things including certain things about the music industry. I agreed with the whole Ticketmaster thing, creating monopolies keeping tickets low for the kids bla bla bla. Then at their PJ 20 concert the prices were so high I couldn’t afford to go. So that was a real disappointment to me. As far as the music industry, it seems to be the new thing to mix hard rock, rap, pop, and country music all together. We’ve Seen Chris Cornell with whoever the hell that was. We’ve seen Slash with Fergie. Aerosmith with Run DMC. We’ve even seen the Stones perform with Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. “The Stones for cry-sake”. Now I don’t have a problem with any of these other artist. But these same bands will be the first to say there’s something wrong in the music industry. Hell yes there’s something wrong with the music industry. The true rock with its heavy guitars, the true rap with the catchy rhymes, the country music with its good old fashion steel guitars and the pop music people can dance to is all becoming one. You have to look like Beyonce, Justin Timberlake Carrie Underwood or even Adam Levine to be signed and you definately have to be under 25 years old. It doesn’t even matter if you can play a instrument or write a song, which in my opinion should be job qualifications. Now if this sells more tickets for l these artist and the music industry is making money and it’s what the new generation wants. Then I guess the rest of us will have to live with it. But in my humble opinion, I think all the above are willing participants in doing a great injustice to the future of music. I don’t mean to go off on a soapbox and please excuse the grammar errors. I wrote this from my heart really fast.

I’m sure there are thousands of other kids out there who are rap fans who might now have a better appreciation for good, American made rock music now, and some of you people are bitching? Unbelievable, that you can be a fan of a band one day, and then your band chooses to perform with someone outside their genre and you hate them. Guess you weren’t a real fan in the first place. Good fucking riddance.

IT ROCKS
RAP AND GRUNGE SHOULD WORK TOGETHER IF IT MAKES SENSE AND SOUNDS GOOD
Jay-Z and PJ equals dissonance. Rap gobbled up Rock, imho. Ain’t seeing a Run DMC and Aerosmith here…What happened to Vedder?
this is embarrasing. PJ is dead to me. fuck you vedder
Disappointing to see Pearl Jam in a festival of Jay-Z’s rap garbage.
What happened to vedder and Company? end of their careers?
I have been a fan of PJ for 15 years. THIS is sad. THIS is the worst thing the band has EVER done. Fuck them! Fucking rap??? PJ = a joke
People get your acts together, if PJ want to collaborate with Jay-Z then why not….
Get over it people, they did a song together who gives a shit? Do you not remember them playing with Cypress Hill back in the day? Stone and Jeff both love rap, so what?
You people are fucking dense. As JB said, they did the “Real Thing” with Cypress Hill back in 1992. They also did Dirty Frank, tribute to Red Hot Chili Peppers (a band that at the time incorporated more hiphop than rock into their music)
waaaaaaaaah, PJ sold out waaaaaaaaaaaah….please grow up
Spin da black circle, yo!
Obligatory “they already recorded with Cypress Hill” post. If that’s your definition of selling out, they did so basically in the beginning of their lifespan. Get over yourselves.
That was fucking awesome!
a lot of PJ fans are in denial. THIS SUCKS! next they are gonna do a Timbaland/Jay Z record. I give up on this band
I’m disgusted by this, not because I don’t like rap, but because jay z is a devil worshipper.
jay-z? hahahahaha. fuck you vedder
Judgement Day soundtrack http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judgment_Night_%28soundtrack%29 <– it has PJ with Cypress Hill and noizzze makers Sonic Youth with Cypress Hill in the mix. Even fucking too cool for rap Slayer with Ice-T, so what?
Ppl on this site are very immature most of the time. Its one time thing and its not like Jay-Z has guested on their next album or anything. But why they arent allowed to have some fun and jam together? I would like to see more of this and i find it cool. Maybe some of you might remember that Layne Stanley sang on Front 242 embient/industrial band back in 1992 at Lollapalooza !
this is like when dee dee ramone made a rap album. SAD
this just in. jay-z has hired Vedder to write a grunge rap song for the brooklyn nets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s unique! Atleast PJ isn’t staying stagnant and trying to keep things fresh.
You guys are fucking retarded. If you are gonna just stop liking a great band after 21 years of playing because they played one song with jay z once in their 21 year career then thats just fucking insane. Its not like they do this ever night they did it ONCE. get the fuck over it im not a fan of the desicion either but im sure as hell mot gonna stop loving Pearl Jam because of it they are a great band and will alway be a great band no matter what they do from now till the end of their career
Jeff’s baseline in 99 Problems kind of sounded a bit like the one in W.M.A to me.
yo! I am Eddy Vedder! I am from the hood yo! I am a grunge thug yo!
COME ON KIDS
ITS JUST ROCK N ROLL N GRUNGE N RAP
WHATS THE BIG DEAL??? MUSIC IS MUSIC RIGHT?? IT DOESNT MATTER IF ITS A GUITAR, BASS, DRUMS OR RAP BEATS , ITS JUST THE SAMETHING : DO WOP WOP BOOM BOOM BOP BOP
99 PROBLEMS BUT A BITCH AINT ONE, IF YOU HATE CHRIS CORNELL, I FEEL BAD FOR YOU SON, BUT I GOT 99 BANDS BUT CHRIS AINT ONE
HAHA
PEARL JAM CAN ROCK WITH JUSTIN BIEBER FOR ALL I CARE, MY CONCERN IS CHRIS CORNELL SELLING OUT HIS FANS SHORT
AND NOT GIVING A FUCK ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE THAN HELPING PRESIDENT OBAMA, WHY DOESNT CHRIS CORNELL PLAY SOME SHOWS FOR MITT ROMNEY THEN?? I DONT AGREE WITH ROCK N ROLL MIXING WITH AMERICAN POLITICS, BUT I DO AGREE THAT ROCK MUSIC, GRUNGE MUSIC, ANY TYPE OF SO CALLED ALTERNATIVE MUSIC THAT SOUND GOOD WITH SOME RAP , TECHNO OR HIP HOP IF ITS DONE RIGHT : SOME EXAMPLES OF THIS?? BEASTIE BOYS? MOBY? UMMMM LETS SEE , RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, TOM MORELLO AND THE NIGHTWATCHMAN WITH CYPRESS HILL , ITS NO BIG DEAL BUT CHRIS CORNELL DOING OBAMA SHOWS OVER HIS APPEARANCE WITH PEARL JAM AND EDDIE VEDDER??
THATS A BIG NO NO
sell out fuckers! fuck rap and Pearl Jam rappers. next step is dubstep
No drama but this ils school PJ fan jeté sure doesn’t agree.
OMG!!!!!! how low can you go mr. Eddie?
This was a bit odd but it’s a freaking festival guys. It’s for fun. The last thing Eddie and Co. are is a sellout. They didn’t just record an album with Kesha. You guys need to take a deep breath and relax. Some ppl treat PJ like they are at the sellout status of Metallica with the chops of a band like Nickelback and forget that they can play anything and rock the house.
I knew this was gonna happen!
I dont mind though, I couldnt care less about PJ as long as Eddie continues to let me down live…oh Eddie, please, I listened to you live when I was a kid once in NYC…where did the clarity in that deep voice go? Up in Smoke!
That idiot in front of the camera probably doesn’t even realize he’s flashing an Illumination hand sign. That’s the blueprint for control, the original ponzy scheme.
” I don’t really know Ministry that well, but I’m looking forward to checking out Ice Cube, who blows me away. My God, his album is incredible.
Oh come on guys, if Pearl Jam want to collaborate and try something different then that’s up to them, and if you don’t like it no ones forcing you to listen to this one song that might not be that brilliant in their wealth of brilliant compositions.
Could be worse. Could have collaborated with Billy Corgan.
Somehow I knew the PJ fans who are also closet racists would come out due to this…
Every show PJ does is unique and almost always includes some kind of collaboration with other artists.
Obama’s America…
Haha change is good folks. Why hate on rap/hip hop as long as it comes from a good place?
Did anyone else notice the bass line’s from W.M.A.? (towards the end)
I’ve got 99 problems but a Mitt ain’t one
Did they REALLY say that? That could offend or annoy some of the crowd.
another Vedder turd
maybe Eddie was drunk when he said yes to this ehmmm … he looks drunk on the video … and yeah … this isn’t very good
PJ+RAP= :/
Damn, what closed minded whiners… Was an awesome performance last night. The bass line probably sounds like WMA cause they played that as the lead in to 99 Problems so it makes sense to return to that at the end.
I don’t give a flying fuck who they played with. I don’t like Jay-Z but as someone else pointed out, he’s not exactly mediocre in what he does.
I don’t care, I still love them.
“Nick said:
I’m disgusted by this, not because I don’t like rap, but because jay z is a devil worshipper.”
Really Nick? You’re offended that he worships a fictitious character from a bunch of fairy tales?
1. Where did you get that information?
2. Why are you so upset that he likes something that doesn’t exist?
stuff lying to yourselfs PJ fanboys! this was the last drop! the last album sucked! vedder ukulele shit sucked! and now this??? IT IS OVER
You guys are just closed minded. This seems like a great moment for music. 2 megastars from 2 different genres collaborating and having a good time. This is great.
I am real! Proof? I made PJ play with Jay-Z and with it I made many, many people sufer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Justice League http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsogswrH6ck
@ Joe. 1 honestly I don’t know for sure that he is an illuminati satanist but he does use a lot of their hand signs and if you listen to his lyrics it would seem that he is. He’d deny it but he is a Freemason and at their upper levels they are satanists.
2. The devil may not exist literally but the rituals that satanists engage in in practice of the religion warrent the hate I.e. human and child sacrifice, brainwashing thru drugs and torture and mass manipulation.
my god…. stop crying… Jeff and Stone have both mentioned in the past that they like rap, they have performed with Cyress Hill back in 92….. its a bit of fun between an amazing band and one of the top dogs of the rap world.
Im pretty sure this doesnt mean the next album will be influenced by hip hop…… so those saying sell out, thats me done with them.. GROW UP

GRUNGE ROCK IMPOSSIBLE
Woulda been hilarious if Ed spit some rhymes with Jay-Z.
Man, some people need to lighten up and take the blinders off. Do you not talk, work with, interact with or play music with people who are different than you? If you don’t, then you must be living a lonely and quiet life.
PJ and many bands have always done things their way. They aren’t monkeys that do exactly what you want them to do on stage.
I hate Jay-Z as much as the next guy, but people on this board are WAYYYY too serious.
Dudes, all Pearl Jam does is make music. Music is not serious. Music can be awesome and inspiring, or it can suck ass, but it’s just music at the end of the day.
PJ collaborates with all sorts of people. Seems like they had a fun time doing this 99 problems bullshit. Good for them.
It’s not like they’re putting out an urban dance album with Timbaland are anything. Geez.
Hey Nick, you’re a complete moron. I’m a freemason and I’m also a Christian. Freemasons do NOT worship Satan, you damn fucktard! Stop getting your “education” off of youtube.
some of you people crack me up with this “sell out” bullshit.
What do you think of Jerry Cantrell performing with Nickelback in the past, or Scott singing with Cyndi Lauper and the lead singer from “Train” or his Christmas Album, or how about Grohl praising and even dancing to Deaudmau 5!!! or (gasp) Chris working with Timbaland and doing the theme song to a James Bond Movie – what a sellout! (sarcasm)
I love peal jam i Hate Jay-Z, but this is hilarious looks like the guys are having fun. Besides i could see myself getting into this at the show, come on guys it’s only one song live a little.
P.S. Its been done
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om2EQ7YXork
If you’re going to call someone a “Satanist”, at least know what it means.
I’M DISAPPOINTED WITH PEARL JAM. TO PLAY WITH JAY-Z TRASH WAS REGRETTABLE. EDDIE VEDDER IS CRAZY?
rock + rap = where the resemblance?
JAY-Z SUCK MY DICK!
Good for Pearl Jam for having fun. You guys are a bunch of whiny idiots, its not like PJ is a rap band now, they just did this to have fun and collaborate with someone different.
PEOPLE , I HAVE JUST SENT AN EMAIL AND EVEN RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM THE ONE AND ONLY MR. BILLY CORGAN OF THE SMASHING PUMPKINS
HE ACTUALLY READ MY COMMENTS ON HERE ABOUT HIMSELF DOING A NEW TV REALITY MAKEOVER SHOW BASED ON THE RESTRAUNT IMPOSSIBLE IDEAL . HE WILL BE THE NEW HOST OF GRUNGE ROCK IMPOSSIBLE , IT WILL BE ON MTV2 IN OCTOBER 2012. HE HAS ALREADY FILMED 2 EPISODES IN WHICH HE HAS INTERVIEWED MEMBERS OF PEARL JAM AND SOUNDGARDEN, AND HE AND HIS TEAM OF MUSIC INDUSTRY PEOPLE AND STUDIO RECORDING EXPERTS HAS DONE A TRANSFORMATION OF THE ACTUAL STUDIOS PEARL JAM AND SOUNDGARDEN HAVE BEEN RECORDING THEIR LATEST RECORDS IN. ITS JUST LIKE WATCHING RESTRAUNT IMPOSSIBLE
I WAS ONLY JOKING WHEN I SUGGESTED BILLY CORGAN BE SOME TYPE OF MAKEOVER GUY FOR ROCK N ROLL GRUNGE BANDS THAT ARE NOT MAKING GOOD MUSIC IN 2012, I WAS ONLY JOKING ON HERE BACK IN JULY OF THIS YEAR ACTUALLY, WHEN BILLY HIMSELF WAS READING THE FORUMS AND HE NOTICED MY COMMENTS ABOUT HIM DOING A REALITY SHOW . HE REALLY LIKES THE IDEA
THIS IS SO COOL!!! IF YOU HAVE MTV2 , WATCH FOR GRUNGE ROCK IMPOSSIBLE, IM BEING SERIOUS THIS TIME , NO JOKING
Hey suicyco
You must be in mason kindergarten. Which you’ll never get past if you are a Christian.
“Oh I’ve been a fan since ten… they totally sold out! I’m never buying another album or going to another concert!”
Good! fuck this band owes all you cry babies nothing! Should the band not be able to play just for themselves sometimes? I mean look at Stone rocking out the whole time (stone is also an admitted hip-hop and rap fan). Look at the way Matt beats the shit out of the skins in the video. Look at the smile of Jeff’s face. They seemed to be having the time of there lives up there.
“And not a single Fuck was given by Pearl Jam at MIA”
Go listen to a Candlebox CD you losers.
How the fuck did this happen to become about Satan and the Illuminati? What the fuck happened while i was gone?
photos the shame yesterday:
Budweiser Made In America Festival Benefiting The United Way – Day 2

very sad, festival garbage :’(
Eddie Vedder just shared the stage with great rockstars , for example, Roger Daltrey, Neil Young, among others, now RAP? Jay-z? shameful
SAD
The Illuminati are real and Jay-Z is one of them. So is Tom Cruise, he raped my grandma’s friend back in the 80s.
FESTIVAL of shit!!! Made ??in america NO!, Made in CHINA OR PARAGUAY!
FACT
PEARL JAM AND JAY Z GO BACK
DONT YOU KNOW??
EDDIE VEDDER RAP STAGE NAME USED TO BE ED-V
EVEN FLOW?? YO YO YO, THOUGHTS ALIVE LIKE BUTTERFLIES UH UH UH
OHH WE DONT KNOW ? OH OH OH
This wont help Grunge in my area (WNY) because most people who I know who like Pearl Jam, they dont give a fuck about Soundgarden or AIC or STP. Its all “PJ & Nirvana! Yeah! Who the hell cares about Soundgarden, wait when did they get back together!? Who the fuck cares about Stone Temple Faggots! I only like Nirvana and Eddie Vedder is GOD!!!”
Thats how my colleagues regard any Grunge Band who arent Nirvana or PJ… Thank God people who are actual musicians pay attention to music instead of whats popular
Nice proof by PJamers to make it like they are OK with it. See other bands have done this so it’s all good. They have gone weird that’s all with there ” I don’t know what to do phase music period” OK.
just found a really cool tuning called DCCGAD. Sounds nice with Chords
One song out of 25 songs at a festival. If you think about it, Jay-Z curated the festival and could have made it an all hip-hop festival. But instead he gave the festival some diversity and made Pearl Jam the headliner on the second night, which I think is a really cool and respectful move on his part. I’m not a big Jay-Z fan, but I thought it was cool to see him play with Pearl Jam. I enjoyed the performance.
Look , its just one show ok?? JAY Z IS A WELL RESPECTED RAP ARTIST and PEARL JAM ARE A WELL RESPECTED GRUNGE ROCK BAND , they just wanted to do a one time show ok?? ITS NO BIG DEAL!!
How come people are making this a big fuss?? But when Chris Cornell does shows after shows after shows for president Obama and he did that rap collaboration with Timbaland for Scream?? How come no one is in here complaining about that?? It makes no sense!!!!!
Its just rock n roll n rap music ok?? GET OVER IT
When they burst into Rocking in the free world, it feels like they’re doing it just to prove how much better rock music is… but for whatever reason they did it, it was just for fun, its not like this defines their whole musical aspirations!!!!!!!
I’m been a PJ fan as long as I can remember. This makes me absolutely sick. Its an embarrassment. They should have never played this festival. They were the only rock band there with a bunch of shitty pop/rap people. They really tested my loyalty today, but I’ll stick by them. What happened to collaborating with Neil Young, Pete Townsend, Robert Plant and actual legends like that? Jayz IS NOT A LEGEND, therefore not worthy of sharing the stage with PJ.
Once is fine. As long as it never happens again…
The same Neil Young who plays 3,000 seat theatres solo, who has the balls to charge $250 a ticket (or more) for said shows?
The same Robert Plant who has basically become a folk singer and essentially wants nothing to do with his Zeppelin past? (except of course, for the few Zeppelin songs he does play, because if he didn’t play those, no one would actually go see him on his own)
The same Pete Townshend who sold his soul to Nissan, amongst others?
Yeah, how dare they play one song with one of the 2 or 3 greatest rappers ever at one show…a show curated by said rapper
PJfan yeah include PJ now in the Music hall snobs club OK. How much do PJ charge again? What was that whole Ticketmaster thing about since now they sleep with them. Talk about a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde band.
Oh my god! Did this really fucking happen?! I liked Pearl Jams earlier albums (up until the awful ‘Yield’) but I don’t think I’ll bother listening to them again if they do stuff like this. Rap/rock totally sucks and is like soooo 2001!
They just shat on their legacy with this.
SELL OUTS! Their a f***ing american rockband. Why would they do this? So JZ sings riddles and rhymes, Does he even play a musical instrument? Could he set down and write a song that your grand-kids will still be listening to 30 years from now? JZ is the perfect example of an artist that’s made millions of dollars being overly commercialized, while our real musical talent is stuck playing in bars for a couple hundred bucks and will never be signed to a major label. To me that’s what makes this so sleezy. PJ sold out! It’s as simple as that. Lost my respect.
Jenna are you really that one sided and overdramatic?
Pearl Jam simply did a crossover with a artist from another genre. Nothing wrong with that
They did sell out with this right here but I guess it was only a matter of time. Off I go to eBay to sell the 4 pearl jam albums I own! Nirvana never would’ve done shit like this…
Jeez people. PJ simply shared their stage for one song at the end of a festival with their host. They were gracious guests as they always are. Those acting like it is the end of the world to see two different genres on the same stage, might want to remember that was what lolla was/is all about.
Chilled is exactly right -Some people have their heads jammed up their asses
Jay-Z is playing the same festival. Maybe he and the PJ dudes get along well and did that performance as a thing of respect
But of course everyone here is bitching and moaning about Pearl Jam “selling out” and getting their pitchforks ready over nothing. Chill out everyone
Ridiculous. Its just music. One song. Cornell did something called Scream, so PJ gets 1 free pass. All Grunge legends get 1 free pass.
Omg, it’s just one song with the guy who put the whole festival together, wtf is wrong with that?? You can’t take 3 minutes of them doing zomething different as a tribute to the guy who made the night happen?? Did everyone take crazy pills before logging on today?
I’m glad that PJ might lose some fans over this. I am looking forward to getting back to the Binaural and Riot Act days. We need to trim the fat fan base we picked up with all the PJ20 publicity. The true fans will always love them. I can’t wait for the new album!
Ok!
Let’s just all agree that Beyonce is one fine piece of ass.
And I don’t usually go for the dark chocolate, but I would dive penis-first into that vat of Hershey’s goodness.
You all have a terrific night.
Oh shit my bad, kind’ve drifted off topic..ummm, oh yeah..freemasons are satanists, Pearl Jam = sellouts, Billy Corgan is a prick, rap isn’t rock, the ’90s ruled, blah blah blah..
Beyonce is probably the sexiest black woman alive, in my (and many peoples) opinion.
Fuck life.
everyone this jay-z shit isn’t bothering is lying to himself. end to the lies pj fanboys! admit that this act was the last straw. PJ is done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol lol lol lol lol
PEARL JAM ARE SELL OUTS
YO VEDDER NOW DO AN ALBUM WITH T.I.
Ive always hated Pearl Jam. Not because of the people in the band, rather ive always thought of PJ as riding the wave caused by Nirvana, AIC and Soundgarden. I will admit that Yellow Ledbetter is very good until Vedder starts mumbling. Other than that I dont like the sound that the band produces…I just dont
mac they will lose more than fans with this B$. They are going in a direction that stinks and reeks of no creativity. I see it now new PJ album called. BackRapper starring Eddie Sparxxx Vedder.
All the haters… fuck off! Grow up! Broaden your mind! You remind me of Metallica fans who only listen to Metallica. Narrow minded tools. Jay-Z isn’t the newest member of Pearl Jam. He invited them to play a festival in front of people who normally wouldn’t go see Pearl Jam, and they did a cool thing together. Stone has been a massive hip-hop fan for ever! And their friendship with Beastie Bos and RHCP and RATM go back to their beginnings, all of which actually incorporate hip hop into their rock music. Haters = narrow minded fuckwits.
agreed^^^^^
This is why Vedder didn`t want to broadcast the fuckin show! lol
Btw they can play or make wharever they want!
The point is that Vedder make it all for money! But he looks like not!
It was Jay-Z’s Festival. Why wouldn’t they perform with him? Also, if you weren’t there, you don’t get it, it was so insanely epic. Finally, for those of you haters who are “done with this band”: please drop your Ten Club memberships so I can get better seats. K, thx.
SUICYCO, Its really not proper to claim your a christian and then call Nick a “fucktard”.
Just listed the first 3 pearl jam albums on eBay for a dollar each! I am completely against rap music, it florists violence and belittles women. I never thought I’d see guys I considered real artists performing on a song about ‘Bitches’… Sorry guys but I’ve got my morals and this was the last straw for me at least. Its cool though, still got Nirvana, AIC, STP and the Pumpkins to listen to, all better than PJ anyway and not doing songs about hoes n bitches!
Was never a huge fan of Soundgarden anyway so them working with rappers didn’t bother me so much.
Look at all the little white grunge-boys whining and showing their ignorance. Just to make you all a little less nervous about PJ playing with a big scary black man; 99 Problems was produced by Rick Rubin who put samples from Billy Squier and Mountain songs in there, does that make you feel better you ignorant, intolerant, whiney-ass little bastards? What a bunch of jerk-offs.
One would’ve thought that PJ’s music and their message would’ve reached a more sophisticated and open-minded audience…guess not.
GrungeAddict:
You are absolutely right, Nothing else really needs to be said. Everyone has a right to their opinions.
I liked Soundgarden in the beginning. I love Kim and Hiro. I don’t know much about the other guy. To me it just seems like Chris and Ben have been negative energy for that band. I don’t know them personally so I probably shouldn’t say that but it just seems that way to me.
BillyL:
Please don’t come to this site and try to accuse us of having a racist agenda. It has nothing to do with JZ being black, it’s because he’s a rap artist. We would feel the same if it were Eminem.
My take? I LOVED it! PJ played one of the best shows I have seen, and I have seen more than 30 shows including all 4 to close down The Spectrum. If these whiners wanna complain, fine. Don’t buy the albums, lose your 10c membership, and don’t by tickets to shows. It’ll make my life easier to get tickets and better seats to boot. So whine all you want, have fun listening to Nickelback or what ever nonsense you wanna listen to. Oh and Vamoose sonofabitch… GOD BLESS PEARL JAM!!! Great show and great move jamming with Jay Z!!
Well said Jenna, the fact of the matter is they’re sell outs working with ANY mainstream rap artist and equally they’re supporting raps message of violence and sexism.
You guys go ahead and carry on listening to these ageing rockers who are desperately trying to be down with the kids even if it goes against everything they stand for. As I said, there are plenty of other great rock bands who haven’t sold their souls to make money. Could you picture John Lennon working with Jay Z?! Of course he wouldnt!
Oh well I’ve freed up some space in my CD collection. I got 99 problems but owning a Pearl Jam album ain’t one…
PEARL JAM FANBOYS LISTEN UP. YOUR BAND HAS GONE TO SHIT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. NOW GO LISTEN TO FUCKING RAP
What the fuck was with Eddie thanking Mr.Jay Z for giving him their wings? This band broke my heart, i walked out of the concert when Mr. Jay Z came out. It’s fucking retarded. Thanks Eddie you liberal fuck!!
20 years of my life i have been a fan and you pricks ruined it. It’s all about the money!!! Never thought in a million years this would happen.
yes Vedder is a liberal drunk
looks like Vedder did a no.2 with this rap thingy
115 comments? this has gone too far
-Epiphany
can anyone show me a WORSE PJ thing? Scott made shit in his life but not like this. Vedder you FAILED
I will love Eddie no matter what! Hatters gonna hate!
@petra

I hope the next Vedder record is ukelele + rap + timbaland beats + cypress hill
Let it die people! this has blown out of proportion!

can you imagine Cornell doing a shit like that??? Vedder is trying to stay relevant but he isn’t
eat shit Roxy
@superSG
you should defend the band you love! defend PJ!!!
defend? why? I fucking hate PJ also. Cornell is way more sexy that Vedder. Cornell has got Jesus hair
having said that. Roxy should suck a cock
CHILLAX PEOPLE. MC EDDIE VEDDER WILL PUT A CAP IN YA ASS
GRUNGE RAP = 2012
all you need is love people. stop the PJ hate.
what is going on here fuckers?
I confirm that Vedder is not following me and this grunge + rap product has zero to do with me. Blame God.
Satan
I hope now we all agree that Pearl Jam currently sucks!
I used to love this band so much … the Riot Act happened. Man was that record bad
I am glad to see the blind PJ/Vedder lovefest is over on this site. Bring the hate!!!!!
@superSG
shut up
stop it people
back to the new name…again…
why does everyone seem to think that musicians can only listen to the genre of music they play. Just because you don’t like rap doesn’t mean the members of PJ can’t, just be cause they do one song live with Jay-z doesn’t mean they are sellouts, if they id an entire rap album because a studio tells them to then they’d be sellouts. If you don’t like rap then just don’t fucking listen to it, don’t attack people because they do. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
eddie vedder takes in the ass, what a shame to play with garbage jay-z rap shit
eddie vedder shit you never so much as now, sharing the stage with rapper … fuck you!
This is really sad. So what Pearl Jam performed with Jay-Z? It must be really bad that they don’t stick to their “grunge rock impossible” roots all the time, and try to evolve their musical taste? WHO CARES! Pearl Jam can do whatever the fuck they want, and i’m pretty sure any of you so-called “fans” (more like sadist trolls) really matter to Paerl Jam anyway. Just close this tab, finish masturbating, Turn your computer off, and never come to this site again. It’s that easy, if you don’t like something, get the fuck away from it.
PJ20 fail … Never in 20 years of banda, I saw a tragedy as immense as this gentleman eddie vedder and company.
PEARL JAM + RAP + JAY-Z? FUCK YOU !!!!!!!!!
the thread that would not die … the PJ shame that would not go away
I cant believe this article made it onto the ‘Most Commented’ section
I can’t believe it is not in the first place. This PJ disgrace must never be forgotten!
currently second place. this has to be first! lol
If you hate something, don’t you do it too…
Yeah right Eddie!
I got 99 problems but owning a Pearl Jam album ain’t one.
vedder has really done it this time. it is weird he gets a pass doing a show drunk as hell but he doesn’t get a pass for Jay-Z … anyway the people have spoken. fuck vedder
@GrungeAddict
you are hardcore my friend. i will probably buy the next PJ album even if it is gonna be just average plain rap
WORST SHOW OF PEARL JAM IN 20 YEARS OF CAREER, WHAT SHAME!
I’M SAD, PEARL JAM IS EASILY SOLD
WORST SHOW OF PEARL JAM IN 20 YEARS OF CAREER, WHAT SHAME!

well … maybe not
Pearl Jam was never sold . Why not refused and showed his middle finger to jay-z? pearl jam end career
@lol – I’m glad PJ did this because now we know how much of a fraudulent fan you were. You’re pathetic and your “God” Eddie says good riddance to trash like you, be or lol or the general
@dennis
fanboy
fuck it, sorry Mad Season article but it seems a new Numba One is crawlin up your ass.
Pearl Sham’s Fall from Grace must never be forgotten!
Still not at the top? Lets fix that!
#1!
when it will be all said and done … this thread will be remembered. this thread IS grungereport.net
Well put about the instruments being a qualification in music/not opera music, even though Cornell essentially WAS an Opera Baritone…anyways…good point!
@Epiphany
Frank Ocean is famous cause he is gay. Jay-Z sucks. Nu Metal sucks. Linkin Park suck … yeah PJ sucks too
@Jenna
interesting opinion. Slash is a sell out btw. he is famous because of the way he looks and that damn child of mine solo. fuck him
Oh and I want to add just one more thing. Whenever the education system has budget cuts. Why are the Art and Music departments the first in line. This also has a trickle down effect on the music industry. Take all the creativity out of our kids, label them autistic or ADHD because they don’t do well in science and math and then will have little robots that never get their chance to show there artistic abilities. Then I guess you can sell them whatever you want. Sorry I know this probably isn’t the right place to vent.
TAA – DAA! Pulled this OVER COMMENTED OVER COMPLAINED, AND WAAAAAY BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION MUSIC ARTICLE TO THE FUCKING TOP!!!!!!!!!
Way to go my fellow Grunge community members. We Successfully showed how over reactive and in the moment we truly are!
Isnt being a fan of a band who ‘fell from grace’ because they experimented with a festival collaborater the blasphemy of all blasphemies?
they didn’t experiment … they made a turd for the world to see and for use to taste … it wasn’t yummy
HOLY SHIT WE DIDNT DO IT YET?!?!?
which is worse … ole or this 99 problems cover?
#1
leave it to Mac to get the job done. worst PJ project ever is #1
The Olè song definately. I still dont get why people are making such a big deal out of this.
We did it….hooray?
OK, this article is done forever. I wont come to this site anymore if it hits 200.
revenge is fun
I WIN
Slash is a hell of a guitar player. I don’t no why he’s made some of the decisions he’s made. Sometimes I wonder if it’s the artist themselves or they just have really bad management behind them.
With Pearl Jam IDK. Maybe they were backed up against a wall, but if that was the case the wings comment don’t make any since. Maybe that’s why Chris Cornell bolted. Maybe he’s saying to himself “I seen that one coming”.
I will still listen to Pearl Jam because their music is timeless.
Who is L.A.L.A.?
No one even wants to buy the PJ albums I’m selling on eBay for a dollar each, everyone must’ve seen this video and lost respect! I couldn’t listen to vitality now after this even if I wanted to tbh.
Pearl Jam simply provided background music for Jay Z to rap to. whats so bad about that? Its not like they did an entire album together.
@theBoysTheComicBook,
I respectfully disagree with you. All of the people/genres that you said didn’t have talent actually do have talent. In addition to some of the Slash comments, Slash also did a song with pop/reggae/rapper/whatever you want to call her Rihanna, who is essentially well known for getting beaten up by Chris Brown.
In an off topic comment, I wonder how the people on this website would have reacted if Pearl Jam did a mix with Skrillex at that very same concert.
Pearl Jam suck big time, knew it was only matter of time b4 they turned in2 a rap group!! U guys shud stop wasting ure time and dedicate ure lives to the Pumpkins like me and HER have
We just made love to a live recording of ‘Widow wake my mind’, it was so hot!
U guys know who I’m fucking, the hottest girl on this site but HER name mustn’t be mentioned because the site owner banned her because he’s jealous as are all users here!! If u guys were with me I’d cut u a break and let u smell my fingers… Don’t get all butthurt cos I’m banging the hottest grunger in the world.
Taylor Momsen?
HER name begins with an L and has ALA after it… Hottest grunge chick in the world and has the best music taste. Out favourite band in the world is smashing pumpkins and we go to every show and make sweet love to their music at my house every night which seems to make people round here jealous.
Some of you people are so ignorant and your ridiculous comments are further proof that you have no comprehension, understanding or appreciation of art/music and the culture that is encompassed within its realm. 90′s Alternative and 90′s Hip-Hop are the last true music movements that will EVER take place; from blues to rock n roll, dylan-era folk, the psycadelic era etc., the fusion of these last two cultural movemtents in music is a great thing to watch. I’m a die hard PJ/90′s Alt fan and a 90′s hip-hop head as well and this right here is great. Open up your fuckin minds-probably have never known a black person in your life-”YO” Smh
Rap’s message of violence and sexism? And you’re going to promote ROCK music as, what, wholesome?
Is there any greater sexist band than Led Zeppelin?
So now can Matt go back to Soundgarden full-time?
No, Led Zeppelin was indeed the pinnacle of machoism and sexual heroism.
Calling yourself ‘Jayhova’ is a blasphemy!
Your comparing Led Zeppelin to rappers. I don’t even know what to say to that! I’m not even going to waste my time. You are probably like 16 years old.
Look at all of the comments here! In the big picture, who gives a crap if PJ played a song with a musician from a different genre? They’re not allowed to do what they want? They have to live up to haters expectations? No one is forcing anyone to listen to this song. It is a live collaboration, not an album for freakin sakes! It must suck in some ways to be a really successful musician or band, because all of the sudden some people think they have a right to own you and decide how you should use your talent.
Cool, it must be nice for a band that has been playing together that long to do something different every now and then. Not really my thing, but I don’t mind them doing this one song like this. Even if I did, who cares. It’s their band, and can do whatever they like. I would surely enjoy doing something different like this for an occasion if I was playing in a band that long.
Wow, lots of haters. How disappointing. Rap isn’t my thing either, but my kid listens to rap. I’m 42 and been a fan of Pearl Jam since they were Mother Love Bone. My kid is 20, and he’s a Jay-Z fan. My point is, my kid now has more of an appreciation of Pearl Jam that he didn’t have before.
“I don’t like rap music so no one should.” – Butthurt Assholes
this was shit
“Rap is like scissors, it always loses to rock.”
