FUNNY HANDWRITTEN NOTE FROM LAYNE STALEY’S GIRLFRIEND DEMRI PARROTT

By: 20 September 2012 22 Comments

I was honored to talk to a very close friend of the late Demri Parrott (who passed away in October 1996), Layne Staley’s ex-girlfriend, in Paris just recently.  They gave me this hand scribbled note from her. Gives a little insight into her life at the time. I think this is from 1991.

Yea she was pretty short lol, like 4’10 or 4’11 I think? I always thought she had pretty lips and hair.

    Wow! Is this real??

  • mike said:

No,toward the end,she started selling herself to feed her habit. Read the book Grunge is dead,it has the story about layne’s final years. It also talks about Demri selling herself……

Layne=rock star who had money to burn, literally
Demri=former rock star GF with little cash and a big frikkin’ habit to feed

Demri is the body on the cover of Dirt.

I miss Layne and Kurt so much! Don’t know anything about her.

It makes me feel good to be nobody everytime I think about what happened to some of the rock stars we cared so much about but couldn’t do one thing to keep ‘em alive. We really miss them though.

You guys and gals love Layne as much as I do. Check out 5R6 song K on YouTube and also listen to Wael Meskini and Project 86 song SOTS
Those guys are making some great songs!

It’s more like post-grunge, heavy alt rock.

@SuperSG-Actually it is a model named Mariah O’Brien on the cover of Dirt. Rocky Schenck was the photographer of the shoot. According to some friends of Demri, she was upset the band didn’t use her for the cover. Great note by Demri. She sounds as though she was very fun and spirited. Very sad heroin took her down. RIP

It ceases to amaze me….the interest in my daughter…so much miss information….to set 1 record straight Demri was NOT mad she was not on the cover of DIRT……..she was unhappy a model (looking like a double) was used setting her up to constantly say “no that is NOT ME.”
Some knew the truth others couldn’t believe it is not her. She was is and will always be LOVED MISSED & REMEMBERD mostly for her spirit.

    Dem’s mom,
I just want to tell you what a beautiful daughter you had in Demri. It must be very hurtful to read trashing posts by ignorant people who haven’t a clue that’s it’s not ok to run their mouths about half-truths they’ve heard and have zero knowledge of anything they’re saying.
So disrespectful for any parent who loved their child! People really need to think before putting their feet in their mouth.
    Wishing you peace :)

    Dem’s Mom,
Being a mom your story has always haunted me. I can’t imagine loosing one of my children let alone three. I cannot imagine the depth of your sorrow. God bless you and your family.

Dem’s mom-it is good to hear your opinion about the cover of Dirt. The source I heard about Demri being pissed about the Dirt cover seemed trustable, but who knows. I imagine that it must be frusterating to see or hear about all the various stories out there. I also read on the Icepicks and Nukes site your vetting of the stories about Demri in the book by Adriana Rubio, and also the book about Mike Starr. I hope David de Sola can follow through on writing something that puts all of the BS out there to rest. As others on here stated, I also cannot imagine losing any of my kids. Losing a child connected to a former public band member adds a whole other element to that loss I would guess. Best wishes to your family.

best wishes and prayers to her and Layne. I lost my best friend the same way and I knew the pain it causes. Peace and love to those affected or overcome by addiction. “Don’t Follow”
