TOOL TO START RECORDING NEW ALBUM IN EARLY 2013?
Former Isis singer/guitarist Aaron Turner gave a tidbit of Tool news in a new interview, from FourthEye.net:
Interview with Aaron Turner a few nights ago on RRR radio. They asked him what albums he was looking forward to in 2013. He mentioned Tool and the interviewer commented on the massive gap of nothingness since 10,000 Days. Turner replied that he had heard it from the band themselves that they are looking to start recording the new album in January / February.

Tool = The laziest band in the history of rock music. I still remain a fan though…
Will be hard to record an album with Tool in February if Maynard is on tour with A Perfect Circle in February in
Australia.
New album out Dec 2013 fml
I love them but agree on the laziness factor, puscifer is beyond mediocre, yet Maynard puts more effort into that.
@Shadow on the Sun
Maynard also puts more effort into his wine than Puscifer and Tool combined.
Lis, it is very possible for the rest of the band to track instrumentals and then Maynard to come in and do vocals after that tour. From what I understand about their recording methods, that’s usually what they do.
Maynard does it right… keep them wanting more. Plus having alucrlucrative business or two on the side will keep him from being forced to make a bunch of albums that need not be made… ahem– PJ
Im a massive Tool fan , seen them twice and would love to see them again…and ive bene listening to them a hell of a lot the last few weeks, would LOVE some new material, as a tool fan we kinda know theres gonna be a long wait between albums, (usually about 5 years) but whats it been now..7 since 10,000 days? its annoying but its usually worth it, the only thing ive noticed in many interviews is Maynard doesnt like discussing music at all these days (Especially whenever Tool is bought up) hes always been awkward and cagey in interviews at the best of times but it seems he really doesnt enjoy talking about Tool or music at the moment, i you ask him about wine though hes more than happy to talk about that, i remember him saying hes not a fan of touring and he cant feesibly see himself doing it much longer so i dotn actually know how much more desire there is for him to do this on the scale he has recently..i think there wont be much more tool in the future, and other members of tool also said they plan thier tours around maynards wineary..because he likes to be there to oversee all the grapeing etc which happens at a certain time of the year, he definatley seems to be winding down, he also said in the “Blood into wine” documentry that the reason he and a lot of singers do what they do..and scream about thier struggles and demons is so that thy can face them and then conquor them and move on..and if theres no resolution there than you have to question why are you still doing it, you should eventually have some peace and no longer need to do it…so i think this could be the last Hurrah as far as tool is concerned, im sure hell still make music on the side with Puscifer and maybe a few other projects/guest spots here and there, but he seems more contempt with winemaking these days
Tool is another of my favorite bands. Love all the layering they put into their music. Looking forward to a new album.
Toss out Maynard and bring in Mike Patton.
Who does Patton sing for these days?
Puscifer is awesome. Listen to their newest album before saying that.
I like the influence obviously on 5R6 and some other bands, also Tool influenced by King Crimson.
Tool should try to be as strange (in a good way of course) as possible and I think it’s funny how people on YouTube get so bent out of shape by their more controversial lyrics, which I love. When their lyrics are great, then they are a wonderful band!
Tool should tour with 5R6, Stoned Jesus, and Spacegoat.
And of course Carta Immense would be great with them too but they are great all by themselves!
Cool, my favourite Tool songs are: Opiate, Sober, Schism, and Vicarious. Still like Opiate the best.
Well said grunge addict , It is fucking hard being a tool fan as the wait between albums are always enormous but they do always come through something amazing ! I just hope maynard contines to release music after he is done with all his bands.
@cosmicatomic I have listened to the album and compared to apc and tool it is mediocre. I I don’t have to like everything he does but ill call a spade a spade.
If puscifer becomes Maynard main/only musical focus then ill simply thank him for the previous 2 decades of great compelling music and move on
I tend to think he feels the new stuff is , as they make it, is a masterpiece. So they never rush the next “masterpiece”. Like old classical music before there were cds. I think thats why the songs are so long. They see them as art. Art can not be rushed.
We also see some bands just put out 3 great albums and then people get sick of them and that band goes away. Atleast Tool keeps you WANTING, not just waiting. If they were any less of a band, Id probably get over them, and I bet Im not alone. But since they do put on pretty great shows and the CD really are quality music, maybe they are just taking their time(some people dont like the newer stuff, but each to their own). Id rather wait a bit(7 years is even getting to long for me, Im no spring chicken) but to get another quality album than to have them just die out.
If you have seen them progress though the years, the song have become more artistic and inricate. More so now than ever. They seem to have gone into a much more classical working style that involves a lot. Many components to just one song. Maybe my optimism like to think thats the reason between lenghty releases. They do deliver. I pretty much have said that most songs have been worth the wait, so I cant argue with how they have made longevity out of their carreers.
Ive seen them almost a dozen times, but they dont mix it up much live. See one concert now, and if they play close to you again kinda soon, you have a great chance at seeing the same show. I know it takes a lot to put up all the lights and to put the “show’ together. But anyone like me is still waiting to see some great songs still. Just for an example , Ive never seen “crawl away” “jimmy” or “swamp song”…..maybe no high on a lot of list, but high on mine. And Im SURE Im missing one or two even better songs. Ive seen a lot, but the shows dont make me want to see them twice back to back like they use to if I could. Just to sum this up, I cant wait for a new album, and I hope they continue to wow us with new music…..just a bit sooner. Nobody is getting younger.
That was way longer than I wanted that to be. Sorry. I love Tool and didnt realize how long I went there. Whoops. I appologise.
It’s ok I’m still looking forward to it. I’ll be happy just as long as it isn’t like 10,000 Days.
i thought 10,000 days had soem Brilliant songs on though, Vicarious is amazing..Love the lyrics and flow, jambi is cool, and The Pot is one of my all time fave songs, personally for me aswel i absolutely LOVE the Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned Duo, if you listen to both back to back and read a long with the lyrics its such a fuckin Trip…one of my fave things tool has ever done, and they opene dup with Rosetta stoned first time i saw them…just great stuff, my friend also says Wings For Marie (Pt 1) and 10,000 days (Wings Pt 2) are the best thigns Tool has dont..But i find those 2 a lil harder to “Get Into” myself, …and in regards to live, they only do like 10 or 11 songs a night dont they..so it doesnt leave a lot of change, i like how they added in Hooker with a penis as thier opener for the most recent tour (first time played since 99) and they do add in flood, swamp song, sober from time to time) my complaint to live song choices is that they NEVER seem to play anyting form the Opiate Ep anymore..id give ANYTHING to get Sweat,Hush or Opiate (another of my alltime fave Tool songs) Live
I’d be happy to hear some new tunes from Tool, I remember they were in the studio a little over the past few years, so who knows. As they almost never give accurate information in interviews about Tool, it could be released tomorrow, for example, in 2 years, or not at all.
When I saw them recently, they played songs from Aenima, Lateralus, and 10,00 days, but nothing pre-Aenima unfortunately. Was a great show.
But Maynard irritates me lately with his wine infatuation and weirdness about discussing music. To the point where I wish Adam, Danny, and Justin would release their work separately.
Say what you want about the wait between albums,…at least the music is elite when it comes. They are my favorite band and I’m grateful for whatever they give, whenever they choose to give it.
“10 000 days” wasn’t nearly as good as the previous 2 IMO but I still agree with Dennis here.
Lots of work behind all the albums, especially since “Aenima”.
I heard the new Tool album will feature on HL3
cannot wait for a new tool album, anyone who isnt happy with 10,000 days is not a true tool fan. These are not songs you can just tap your foot to with a couple coarses. These songs grow on you the more you listen to them. I never like wings part one and two but now it is probably one of my favorite Tool pieces. It is so inspirational! The more you listen to Tool, the more your favorite songs will change. This band cannot make a bad album
TOOL are simply fucking awesome………just love them…..
As maynard said.. he feels that singers use music as an outlet and when they have nothing left to get off their chest, they should simply stop. However I believe maynard still has a few things to say about the world. I really want to see what Danny Carey does on the new album as a drummer like myself would. After hearing how insane Rosetta Stoned was in terms of musicallity.. I’m dying to hear what else Danny can think of.
TOOL lazy????? Seriously? wow brother, that’s a widely fucked up perspective there. Puscifer, APC, the vineyard, yea fuck, nothing going on huh. And Maynard isn’t the only one with multiple projects. They all have shit going on. They all do their own thing while in between albums, rejoin and all bring different things back to the table. Be patient dickhead. Fan my ass. Don’t expect anything, that’s dysfunctional and your own fault. Don’t forget, TOOL…, is exactly that…, a tool. Use it in whatever way you like but use it nonetheless. Peace
post script: Oh, and “toss out Maynard” you don’t deserve what TOOL provides, what Maynard provides. Why don’t you just go fuck yourself!
yea it sucks waiting but you can’t tell me it’s ever not been worth it. later gators and haters
I would absolutely prefer huge gaps between albums over watered down ones every two or three years like a lot of bands. I’d rather not have an album if their hearts aren’t fully into it. If this is their last one, then we are still lucky enough to have one of the best collections of albums ever made by a band. I will still be listening to Lateralus when I’m 75 years old. And to a previous comment by Mark, you are right – They do record most of the music first and then have Maynard lay down vocals, so it definitely can be done around different schedules.
I have been a TOOL fan since Undertow and have seen them too many times to count. One thing I don’t understand is why TOOL fans feel that Maynard should apologize because he has other interests.God forbid the man actually practice what he preaches (Lateralus). Waiting just makes it better.
Completely agree with the assessment that everyone talking about Maynard should just calm down. First, I fail to believe that Maynard is single-handedly holding up production of the new album. Second, I’ll wait as long as it takes for the new album. Until then I’ll cycle Undertow, AEnima, etc. for as long as it takes. I’ve been a Tool fan for well more than a decade, seen them live twice, yada, yada. So of course I was hoping for their new album this year. But even if we’re looking at a Dec 2013 release window, I’ll wait patiently. They are all fricking geniuses, and the four of them make music that is beyond my ability to fully comprehend because of its message and complexity. And genius takes time. Now, I’m gonna go rock out to 4 Degrees.
I wouldnt call tool lazy…honest, but not lazy. Go watch “Blood Into Wine”. Tool fans expect a certain tone to a tool album. When youre making wine in the Arizona deseet its hard to find the angst required to record an angry album. I’d personally rather wait then have a half assed money grab produced like so many other bands pump out. High five for artistic integrity tool.
Great show, what I saw of it. I saw them at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise Florida. But I will never go see them again… They had given every usher in the place the authority to keep people from taking pictures and recording the show.
Do you know what happens when you give authority to people who have never had any?
They made the show impossible to watch by calling police over when they thought people were recording or shooting pictures. I was on Facebook during the show talking to someone and because my phone was lit up this woman usher started yelling at me “I told you before you can’t take video your gonna have to leave!!!” I told her she was F***IN OUT OF HER MIND and that I wasn’t going anywhere and showed her my phone and she just stared at me.
Then 1 minute later she called the police on the guy in front of me and had him escorted out of the arena and he didn’t do anything. She couldn’t keep track of who was doing what on their phones. I got to watch more chaos because the band is camera shy than I got to watch the show. I enjoyed what little I got to see but what a Waste of money that night. I left there really pissed off for what I spent on tickets. I’ll go spend my money on other bands shows that don’t have issues with people wanting momentous from having a great experience they paid for. Even the lead singer stands in the dark so no one can see him. Cool concept but the overall experience was B.S… I wasn’t the only one pissed off that night either, these guys lost quite a bit of ticket sales that night for future shows I can assure you. Too bad cause I would have liked to see a show in its entirety.
Based on these comments above, TOOL is the most anticipated album from any of the bands on the list! 37 comments on TOOL, none on the others. We are passionate fans. Favorite band for well over 15 years and always find myself looking for a possible release date for any new albums.TOOL is the most innovative rock band of this generation. I don’t mind the wait, they put out albums that fill up entire CD’s. Not like bands of the 70′s with 25 minutes of material.
I’m a long time Tool fan since 93. I’m wondering if they’ll release during the comet that’s coming round this time next year. Would really be interesting if they did.
It’s TooL, it is what it is. Yes it would be great if they released a new album every two years like the industry sheep, but the caliber of what they create needs time to be developerd and occur purely. To all you haters, until you write a better album your opinions don’t count, Tool doesn’t owe you ANYTHING.
…and for the record the new Puscifer album was one of the best, I feel, albums of 2011
eh you guys talkin about tool? i dont mind waiting for the release of their new album, as long as they dont sound like my old dick…you know im 72 years old, been a headbanging tool fan since my 8th grade and tool music is part of my life i remember when i had my baptismal the radio dj played tool song the lyrics goes like this
“boast bout the day when the rivers overrun, how we’ll rise to the height of our halo. listen to the tales as we all rationalize our way into the arms of the savior you’re the only one who can hold your head up high, shake your fist at the gates saying, i have come home now!”
after hearing the whole song i came in my pants for the first time in my 72 years of being a human i came inside the temple and it felt like the way tool intended me to feel, its not like i want you people to try some viagra to have such release but for me tool is viagra and they will always be, for this old man like me…
Call them lazy, call them selfish. I call them doing what I would probably do in the same situation. These are not at-will employees and I don’t see them as owing me anything. Am I thrilled they are still making music? Yes. Do I wish they were more active in TOOL? Yes, of course. Does what I want dictate what other artists are doing? Gimme a break, why would it?
You don’t like it? Get off your ass and make music that compares. If you Do… You better be ready to crank out a new album every year for 20 years or your are a hypocrite.
I agree that it has been too long. I am in such a different place than I was when the last album came out, yet I still listen to all their albums regularly. That is what makes a great band, that they seem to almost change and grow with you. I think it’s great that Maynard is doing what makes him happy, but I can’t help but be a little selfish at the same time and wish he’d work on TOOL more! Anyway, here’s to a 2013 TOOL album, hopefully early 2013!
@ B.Jay
Clearly you have no clue what you’re talking about. If you did, then you’d know your statement is 100% false. Maynard works with his own Vineyard, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle. Lazy? Hardly. In fact, the COMPLETE opposite.
Im soooo over hearing people say TOOL are lazy, unresponsive in talking about the band! These people clearly do not know or appreciate the band for who they are. They do what they do and when they do it is just amazing! If you had more albums they wouldnt be nearly as special and if they told you what they are up to every minute then they would just become another one of those bands! Just learn to accept that or move on!!!
Having a large fan base is critical to any band for obvious reasons. It’s important to also realize that Maynard and the other members of Tool are not in this to serve us. They make the music. They make the decisions. They create. The rest of us are lucky enough to have the music they make in our lives. It’s been a long time between albums. But none of us are in a position to say if its been too long or that the members of Tool have certain caveats or lost interest. None of us know the true motivators or the mechanics these men have when creating new material. The music they’ve made so far is still fucking amazing. It is timeless. Be thankful for what you have. Don’t be throwing your stones around. It’s a shortcut to thinking……
on nov. 8th some person named FISH wrote that they will never go to another TOOL concert because the band gave security the authority to stop everyone from recording the show on their cell phones or whatever. They said how it was too hard to watch the show with all the police coming over and scolding people for recording it, but they also said THEY WERE ON FACEBOOK DURING THE CONCERT!? i’m 30 years old now, and maybe i am a little old fashioned from kids these days…but you have got to be kidding me. has this world forgotten what rock n’ roll is all about!!? it isn’t about recording the show to put it on facebook! u go to the show to feel the vibes and get sucked into the music…the experience! the passion…this FISH person, maybe a product of this technological era, but still…YOU DON’T GET IT…next time get tickets to the Nickelodeon Teen Choice Awards…i’m sure you can record the show there.
I will wait patiently for greatness. Tool doesn’t owe me anything so I won’t complain.
They were suppose to come out with the new album in late 2011, then it was early 2012, then late 2012 and now sometime in 2013. What’s the point if Maynard’s heart isn’t into music anymore? I fear the new album is going to blow; if and when it ever comes out. I don’t get it, you have this great band, this is your legacy. Either you put your heart into it and go out strong or don’t go out at all.
I understand where you are coming from. I’m looking forward to the next album. I hope it’s something that doesn’t blow. Time will tell. I’ve never thought half hearted or unfocused were words that could describe this band or the recordings they’ve made thus far. If you loved wine as much as a winemaker, maybe things would make more sense. But i dont know a lot. Either way, things will work out as they should. Having something to look forward to is enough for me.
Yep, I am getting ready to write them off eventhough I have loved them from the get go. Hope they have made enough money to get through their elder years as I will not be voting with my $ anymore…sick of waiting…tired of them dicking around with crap bands that suck…Suckscifer, A Perfect Shitcicle, etc. Cmon Maynard! Pull that dick out of your ass and get on with the real creativity…not this shitty Suckscifer crap and NO creative process takes this long to stay true to those that have stayed true to Tool! Edit some fucking live video for crying out loud if your bored with making music with Tool. If not, fuck you man…I’m out (very frustrated fan).
Tool is not goin to rush their last album
I’d rather see Tool take seven years to create something mind-blowing than six months on something disposable.
The Pot, Lateralus, H., Right in Two, The Grudge! OMG Tool’s music has been a part of my life for close to 15 years now. You guys are all insanely lucky to have seen them live, because they’ll never visit South Africa.
If you’re upset that you can’t record a concert on your cellphone, you’re a moron. Buying a ticket doesn’t give you the rights to record an event and post it online. In fact, the law works exactly opposite of that. As for “the singer hiding in the shadows”, that’s just what Maynard has always done. He doesn’t want you idolizing just the singer out front so he blends into the rest of the band. He hasn’t stood out front since the 90′s.
As far as waiting for a TOOL album, we are lucky they will even record again. It’s not our decision what they do. Some of those guys might feel like it’s time to move on. When you start getting grey hairs on your beard, it’s time for greatest hits. They keep recording. Stop following the norm and enjoy what you have, or go watch MTV.
Tool is the most hard working band there has ever been. How the fuck do you guys think they are lazy? what do you think they are doing when they spend 5 years working on an album? They’re fucking working you dumb shits. 10000 days is by far their best album in my opinion (although all the others are still genius) and they spent a shit load of time on all of them and they did this as well as all their side projects, not just a few months or a year. Its fucking disappointing to hear all you whiney impatient dicks that cant even appreciate this bands talent and passion with their art. Genius like Tool does not happen overnight, it takes a lot of time and hard work. Id like to see all you impatient dicks try and produce something half as decent as Tool has. Rant over. Soz, reading this really fucked me off as all you cunts are fucking idiots(with some exceptions to a few of you)
Next tool record 2/22/2222. Complimentary merlot included.
@Anonymous
We get it, you want to suck the while bands dick, but don’t feed us this ambiguous bullshit that they need 7+ years or however long it takes (a decade; why not two?) to put out a new album. That’s just retarded, so just stfu right there idiot.
There’s an underlying issue when Maynard is in another band putting out new material and the other band members doing there own thing. I’ve seen Tool live a bunch of times, paid for their CD’s even though I could get it for free to support the band. I appreciate the previous works of the band. And no one believes Tool owes us anything, nor do we think we’re entitled to a new album. But don’t tell your fans a new album is in the works and year after year there’s nothing to show while you put out new music with your other shitty bands, or make wine, or are disinterested in even talking about Tool, etc. gfys
Tool. they open eyes and ears. they put huge amounts of thought into every track they make. I love them for it. roll on the next album. I would happily wait another 10,000 days(but lets hope not eh?!)
I find it pitiful when people spout anger about the wait. Tool takes time to record albums. It is not because they are lazy, it is because music is art, and they put their hearts and creativity into it. You need to remember that you are a listener in a sea of listeners. Maynard, Adam, Danny, and Justin have put their skills together to create fantastic music that continues to stand the test of time. And to hold up to that standard, they cannot be rushed by needy “fans” who somehow get a perverted sense of entitlement.
None of the members of Tool owe any us anything. If Maynard came out tomorrow and said, “F*ck it, I’m done with Tool, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle. I am going to focus all my attention to wine,” more power to him. I would respect that. He is a human being and he can do whatever he wants.
You are not owed anything. Do not be impatient. Be thankful for what has already been recorded.
December 2013? That just makes me angry.
The normal 5-year wait already is extreme, but 7,5 years? Come on!
@ Brandon
“If Maynard came out tomorrow and said, “F*ck it, I’m done with Tool, Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle. I am going to focus all my attention to wine,” more power to him.”
You got to be kidding.
Rembrandt, Michelangelo and Beethoven did not need 6-7.5 years for their major works. And they did it alone.
If Tool release their next album on 1 December 2013, and it has the same running time as their latest album, they have spent 52676 minutes on each minute of music. Sure, art cannot be rushed. But this is ridiculous.
TOOL is not lazy. Because they haven’t put out an album for 6 years does not mean lazy. They are all beyond brilliant artists and musicians and true beautiful art doesn’t happen over night. Whenever they are friggin ready to release their new album it’s gonna be awesome. I you are a die hard TOOL fan you know it will be done right. I’ve enjoyed 10,000 Days forever and still love every tune.
Tool doesn’t pander to its audience, and that is part of why we like them, but they do/must care somewhat. No band, even Tool, has the luxury of ignoring its audience entirely. No record sales and no ticket sales means no band, so they have to pay some attention to us, even when they have no new material. That’s in part why they toured in 2009, 10, and 12. They make money and we get to see them play (well, not Maynard, but that’s ok). This year Hooker, Ticks and Pushit were fantastic additions to the 10k Days setlist, as was the little teaser bit they played in front of Schism.
In the past they accommodated that reality by putting out Salival. And that’s what they should do now: Put out a live record or a DVD. I get the sense that while Maynard is not the “problem” with the new record, he is against the DVD idea for the same reason he hates people making videos of the shows. “Ever seen a picture of the Grand Canyon?” Well yes I have, and the good ones are excellent. No one expects a DVD to be as good as a live show, but give us credit for knowing that, work hard on the project, and make a concert DVD that is worthy of the music. It would be awesome. We all would get a shiny new Tool toy and they could take another year or three to finish a killer 5th CD, all while taking in millions in fresh cash. I also get the sense that Adam would love to do a concert film. Everyone wins.
The long wait between records is generally fine with me. They make it worth the wait by evolving so much with each effort. Since 2006 we know that the winery experience has changed Maynard, Adam got divorced, Danny is Mr. Fusion, and they all have a lot of stuff to bring to the next project. It will be just as good as any prior record, or better, so I can wait. But I’d like to have something from them soon. It doesn’t have to be wait forever or get something half baked now.
TOOL NEW SONG HAS BEEN LEAKED CHECK THIS OUT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68C0yx_bXao
I think its so disrespectful for anyone to say that tool is a lazy band. I have recently gotten really into this band. A while back I got a magazine from revolver only about tool. The drummer compared the process of making music for tool to childbirth. They put so much effort into their music and the fact that they don’t poop a CD out every year makes the offerings they have even more special. I know of few bands that put this much effort into their music. I’m a huge fan of dream theater and they have about ten CDs. They are an amazing group. They put out a CD every year or two and they are all great but the last one with Mike portnoy had a song about writers block. Tool gives themselves the time to rejuvenate so that all of their music is amazing. I’m not putting dt down but they wouldn’t have had a song about writers block if they’d have taken a little more time on their music. King crimson is another one of the few bands that has put out quite a few albums and hasn’t let the fans down. Tool isn’t lazy for taking their time to make sure that the fans get the best music possible.
Wow. Some of you on here are idiots. Personally, I don’t give a shit about recording videos with a shitty cell phone. Yes, they are people, brilliant ( I too tend to state the obvious when I have nothing intelligent to say – e.g. The sky is up). The fact remains that time is scarce and if time is spent making subpar music with subpar musicians that aren’t members of tool, well I think it is a waste, period. While I enjoyed jerking off to indigo children and sticking my finger in my ass to polar bear, I would prefer to hear something more along the lines of jerk off or opiate or 4 degrees, you know real music. While I appreciate new and challenging things and understand the need to do so, you idiots need to quit buying the subpar shite so they will focus on getting back to the real deal. Yea, these guys are absolutely amazing, and their music wil, be around as long as sound waves have a place on this rock. I equate all the shite music to Vivaldi trying to spin records and busta rhyme.
“such a heavy burden now to be the 1 born to bear and read to all the details of our ending write it down for all the world to see but i forgot my pen shit the bed again typical!!!!”
Just enjoy the music and cut the crap. Tool is an awesome band but that’s not everything. Even if not a new album comes out they still offered some ideas and emotions to the previous albums, respect that. If a new album is not what they want you can’t judge them or if they want to take 10 years for a new album still it’s their right to do so. So my fellow people enjoy music and relax, there is so much we don’t know and we can everyday experience
Just want to say to those of you that are calling Tool lazy….
It’s very apparent that you have no idea about how albums and writing and crafting are put together and how long they take.
Would you rather them pick the first 10 songs they write and make an album every year? Or pick 10 of the best 30 songs they wrote for a killer kickass album? Quality vs. quantity. (example.. Stadium Arcadium chili peppers album. 29 songs and 20 of them sucked).
Consider that they all have been playing in tool and writing, touring, recording, and everything else for decades… They all have side projects, they all have other jobs.
Maynard hates touring with tool btw, because of the schedule. He says it’s a tremendous strain on his body and mind every time and he wants to tour that way less and less because of the tour schedule tool has to follow.
Read up on your tool before you bash them you clowns.
Toolman said it best…
“Cannot wait for a new tool album, anyone who isnt happy with 10,000 days is not a true tool fan. These are not songs you can just tap your foot to with a couple coarses. These songs grow on you the more you listen to them. I never like wings part one and two but now it is probably one of my favorite Tool pieces. It is so inspirational! Tool is not lazy at all they take their music more seriously than any other band I know, who ever says they are lazy you go try and sing like maynard, play like adam justin or danny yea tell me how that goes, or try to write like maynard then put an alubum together that as a whole tells a stroy try to write music that inspires and changes the way you think, this band is the band of the last 20 years there are only two other bands that come close RHCP and pearl jam and both have fallen off, thank god for fucking tool, this is very exciting I just hope its true. i know regardless of what they write I will like it, somehow Ive liked all of maynards projects even three songs of pucsifer thats not much but who can deny pucsifer is weird. lets all turn our third eye and point our positive energy to the new album to help it along, I think the reason why tool took such a long time off is because schism got big and 10,000 days almost hit the top 40, they have all said they dont want that to happen. they dont want to end up like nirvana they dont want to end up playing for a whole bunch of stupid people just following a fad they want true fans that try to better themselves by listening to tool. This why tool isnt on itunes maynard holds tool on another level he doesnt talk about tool he doesnt promote tool, he says tool sounds better on CDS also he even put his tool album set lists out of order so the true tool fan can put it right.
Please do not insult the band by listing your favorite Tool tracks. 10k Days was brilliant, just like Lateralus before it, and so on. They are not songs, but albums. Like Floyd or King Crimson.
I thought I heard them once say they were gonna release the next album on 12/22/2012… the day after 12/21, the end of the Mayan calender’s great planetary cycle. Provided we make it to that day, they jested. With their previous release on 6/6/06 it had a similar Tool silliness to a 12/21/2012 release date (or the following day).
I hope they don’t tell anyone the release date and boom, surprise!
tool maybe the laziest band ever but maybe thats because they are living their lives?? If i struck it rich i would be doing what i wanted to do most in life before its too late and being a rockstar is already checked off on maynards list.
Got my first Tool listen in 8th grade(92-93) on a taped over Tone Loc cassette. My little brother and I were hooked instantly. If you have followed them long, you notice an amazing progression not only in the music itself, but in the messages as well. There hasn’t been a band like these guys since Pink Floyd, Zepplin, or Hendrix. I tend to leave their music alone for months at a time, but when the mood strikes it’s Tool and nothing but for weeks at a time. Laziness isn’t a factor at all. A lot of the turmoil that was in Maynard’s life found some pretty serious relief and perhaps even closure in the lyrics found on the 10,000 Days album. “Now it’s time for us to let you go”. All I know is that the last two albums will blow your mind if you let them. If they follow in their own footsteps, then the next will be none the less. To me the wait is more than worth it. If you look at the absolute CRAP that sells records these days you should take a chill pill and wait for another amazing recording. To Tool, take your time. Many thanks for the records you’ve made and for the one or more you may make in the future. Sincerely, a devoted fan
Contractually they have two albums left… So before Maynard dies he has to put out two albums or his family inherits a contractual breach. He has stated that once he pushes the contractual albums out that they will release another album of music that has been denied by their label.
Uhhh, people calling Tool Lazy? Go listen to Nickelback you losers. Quality over quantity is what counts in music.
i just posted something cool what happened
i have to take my own advice, but everyone should just relax!! its coming soon enough. let the masters master there craft. 10,000 days played in my car for 5 straight years, and thats pretty amazing. There 5th album is on same level as the first “epic” “the best band ever” i just saw roger waters this summer and i hope some day Tool plays in 70,000 plus stadiums and put all their art collectively together to produce something only Pink Floyd or Rolling Stones and few others can do Ive seen Tool 36 times , front row probably 20 out of the 36 And they love touring some shows are better than others for us and them , but maybe its my personal experience or in my mind or the “acid” but i feel like i connect with them every rip of the guitar or smashing of the drums goes right through my body my brother and i were even in the bathroom and could feel the music pass through me Tool “live” is even better than the album the best day of the year for me is when i’m going to a “Tool” concert was my girlfriends first time seeing them and i built them up so much they were destined to fail but of course ” i knew that would never happen’ and of course she thought it was amazing we were front row and Justin Chancellor was arms distance from me he jammed out with me the entire show “i just needed water” but i was good anyway i love to go to different cities and watch em i just hope sooner than later but the wait makes it that much better
Tool is always worth the wait, the gaps between albums has increased with every new album I think, if they come to new zealand one more time I will die happy
Ive been hearing about a new album drop since this time last year. These boys know they are one of the greatist rock bands around. It’s also very normal to have a long wait inbetween albums. Look how long we had to wait between 10,000 days and Lateralus.
Been a Tool fan for a long time now. Have seen them numerous times. Gotta say I think they are one of the FEW bands that can go YEARS without releasing anything and still maintain their following. I’ve been getting anxious for another Tool record. I do have to say though i really wish he would spend less time on making over priced wine, and spend more time on music.
i dont think its really laziness its just their process for making the amazing music that they do. they wait until truly inspirational ideas and visions come to them until they have enough for an album plus all the other things theyre doing even the filler as people call it are songs to them cuz its all about sounds and vibrations and how they make u feel and what they make you envision maynard has said many bands end up making half ass albums because they have 2 meet a dedline and force the songs out or they just on the road and/or havent lived enough life since the last album to have new experiences to inspire them so the albums end up sounding recycled thats just my theory that doesnt mean i dont wish it would come out already!! but id rather wait and have an amazing album…tool knows theyre fans hold them to a high standard because of their truly amazing music so obviously taking their time means they want to create something remarkable especially since many ppl felt 10000 days wasnt as good as lateralus and although i love the albu i do agree but i dont really think theyre capable of making a shitty album by normal standards but i think they just want to keep pushing the envelope and coming up with ideas to surpass what theyve already done will definitely take time thats my take on the whole thing
TOOL is almost like it’s own genre of music, and their musical creativity is beyond my comprehension. The only band that I think comes close to the same category of originality is MESHUGGAH. Highly worth checking out for all of you TOOL fans, but their style is definitely not for the faint of heart! the 8 string guitars and mathematical patterns make it some of the most powerful stuff I’ve ever heard. Just like TOOL, MESHUGGAH has been perfecting their own genre of music for over 20 years now, and unlike most other bands that ever gain huge popularity, they just seem to be getting better with every album they release (after 20 years!). They used to sound kind of like metallica, but even at the age of 18 they were playing stuff that metallica would never be able to handle (rhythmically). Their drummer is definitely in the same league as Danny Carey and I will see both of these bands as many chances as i get because few other musicians impress me so much.
Frank Zappa is King
I hate to say it but I honestly think this might be their last album. Like Maynard said in Blood into Wine, he said he makes these songs in order to move past certain issues in his past, and if he doesn’t learn to “stop screaming” then what have you learned. I think he’s moved past all those issues and now sees no point in it anymore. Granted I hope I’m dead wrong but I’m just being real.
Like, I totally love TOOL.
They are the bestest at what they do. I will be a fan forever.
You all are ruh-terds. Ok?
I’m like totally a TOOL fan. They rock, you know?
Fer sure.
Tool is a great band, but NO band is great enough to take EIGHT or more years between albums. Who knew that their last album, “10,000 Days”, meant that it might actually take that long before they made another album. Goodbye, Tool, I’m moving on.
I will believe in a new album whenever I see it on store shelves. I’m done waiting for new music. (So I’m not holding my breath.) I hope Aaron is right. It gives me some sort of hope since he is a close friend of the band.
None of you know tool. They are not lazy and dont produce massive albums. Its quality not quantity. The band puts the jams together (utter magic) then Maynard comes in with his magic. If they plan to record in Jan/Feb I see an album by May a massive summer tour. A Tool show is like going to heaven. Stop rippin if you don’t know.
Tool changed my life I believe. they know what they do. Creating somethin great take time.
MOTHERS! TOOL ISNT RELEASING A NEW ALBUM THIS YEAR AND THE COMING YEARS, BUT A GREATEST HITS ALBUM WILL DO JUSTICE TO OUR WASTED PATIENCE.
Look everyone needs to relax. Tool could release an album tomorrow and it will be crap you hear coming out right now. you can’t rush artistry. And as for the band members come on they are over the hill. You can’t blame a guy. Their getting older people. All I have to say is let’s get an album of biblical proportion, let tool do their thing and let’s get rid of the the crap out right now poisoning the radio waves. We can only do that buy buying good music from real artists who don’t sit in front of a mixer all day.thus we won’t have to wait for another epic tool album to come out yeah I know I am a uber huge fan of tool, who could of made a song with Fibonacci sequence ,There is nobody out there with the same sound. But that musical revolution would be real nice right about now…. Biting our nails. Give it time it will be worth it. And quit pestering James . Would anyone have loved tool as much if Maynard was out of the picture, I don’t think so. To my fellow tool fans have a good one.
I mean get real I posted this on Christmas while wrapping gifts .you know it, gotta stick up for my band.
this will be Tool’s last album, only made to fulfill their contract. Puscifer is just as amazing as Tool, and A Perfect Circle; they all have their own meanings. His wine is awesome too, if you’re truly a fan, just be glad he’s still in the public eye.. he also writes an article in the arziona paper
maynard grows grapes now. he said music is his hobby, wine is his passion. it’s not laziness.
Sorry for my opinion. But it seems that for most of you (the Fans) TOOl is still just a band..idealized, forgotten to be made of personal experiences and stuff. they even have wife`s and kids!!
I don’t know who exactly commented about having a hard time with security while talking on the phone at the show. Also that security was not allowing people to record or take pictures. That’s nothing new and why would you be talking to someone during a Tool concert?!? That is one of my biggest pet peeves along with talking or drunk yelling during a show. You can do that before or after. You pay good money to see them why not get your money’s worth? Just a thought.
As far as the anticipated album goes, I will patiently wait until it is released. For all that think Tool is lazy are not too bright. They have so many other side projects including making wine. This could very well be the last masterpiece we get from this incredible band, so I say to them, take your time. Any true Tool fan knows it will be amazing and will be worth the wait.
7 years since 10,000 days? 7 years i have listened to tool.
listening to the songs it doesnt feel like it.
a long wait yes but album artwork/ packaging can take awhile to come up with. also all of their songs have weird time signatures not just a simple 4/4 count,
if the whole package is just like 10000 days with the lens and artwork etc etc and the nodoubt GREAT music then the wait will be worth it
I for one am over Maynard. He’s a prima donna. I’d love to see the rest of the band move on with a sludge-stoner type of singer. I’m sure the hate posts are coming for my opinion but whatever. He’s just so incredibly pretentious and self-centered. Especially in regard to how he holds the band hostage with all his flakey interests.
fuck you!!!
you want the best you got to wait…thats how it is with Tool….it will probably be the best one since we had to wait this long…..LONG LIVE TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
like many people said…a true fan will wait…wheter they are doing side projects or making wine….they still rule
Seriously… Quality takes time… Was the Sistine Chapel painted in a week.. The level of complexity and the ever evolving layers of TOOL’s musical landscapes take time to create and perfect…
I myself would wait 10 years for TOOL to create another masterpiece if that is what it took.. How I can go back to the likes of Opiate and still be completely inspired upon the eleventy-seventh listening of the likes of ” Jerk-Off ” or similarly with any of the tracks off of AENIMA and hear new subtleties not previously picked up on is beyond me.. How they engineer and create their craft is at a whole other level rarely met by other artists.
People in this day and age have no patience or concept of the level of skill and complexity it must take to create such truly awe inspiring sonic soundscapes such as TOOL do.. If it was easy and a five minute job all bands would sound like TOOL however they don’t and that should lend itself as to an example why we wait for 5, 6 or 7 years..
TOOL is as close to auditory perfection and dare I say for many a form of Spiritual Enlightenment ( or at least a vehicle for it ) as one can get and that, my friends is worth waiting for..
its better to burn out than to fade away
Stop speakin’, stop writin’… just listen at http://effigy26.bandcamp.com/
The GREAT new album is there!!
Thanx Tool
Tool did an awesome cover “You Lied”. One of their best sons in my book. Doesn’t get much press, however.
