MELVINS’ BUZZ OSBORNE TRASHES RICH ROCK STARS, SAYS ALL THEY KNOW ABOUT IS REHABS & DIVORCES
Here is an excerpt from Buzz Osborne’s new blog on SPIN.com:
There is not one thing I or any of the rest of you can learn from a millionaire rock star. Nothing. There is not one piece of information, not one bit of advice that they could ever lay on me that I could use in any area of my everyday life. I suppose they could put me in touch with a good divorce lawyer but that does me no good since I’m one of the few rock’n'rollers who’s been married only once and I’m nowhere near getting a divorce. Of course they seem to know all about shit like getting divorced and surprisingly enough drug rehabs, but I don’t need assistance in those areas. I don’t need a coke dealer. I don’t need a divorce lawyer. I don’t need the number for a drug rehab. That seems to be the extent of the useful information they have to offer us lowly peons. To be fair though, they do provide us all with an example of what not to do. I suppose there is some good in that, and I suppose that is important.
However….We’re talking about imbecilic five-star clowns with imbecilic five-star clown managers and road managers and an army of imbecilic five-star clown sycophant assholes surrounding them at all times and nothing they do ever surprises me. It’s predictably boring and pathetic and it’s one of the reasons the Melvins operate the way they do. I can’t stand that fucking shit and I just don’t care. And besides, before you get mad at us for speaking our minds about this trivial bullshit, remember, these guys don’t want or need your help.
These rock star assholes don’t care about you. They don’t even care enough to try and make good music for their fans to listen to. What they generally care about has little or nothing to do with logic even because in most of these cases it’s not about money. These overpaid lazy fuckers already have more money than God. So what exactly is the motivation for these boring turds? I have no idea. Lord knows I can’t figure it out.

What a negative, mean-spirited, little troll of a man.
He must be angry that every other band from his hometown are happy with wives, children, mansions, platinum records, and millions of adoring fans… while he’s still touring the country in a van hoping to be able to pay his phone bill.
Hey Buzz, maybe those big millionaire rock stars could teach you something about songwriting, cause you could sure learn alot from almost anyone.
lol I dont know why the other two comments are so against what he said. As if millionaire rockstars DO give a crap. They are like overgrown children in the same vein as pro footballers.
Buzz is right, once the band gets their five mins of fame they stop caring about their fans and overall music that they “write/create” Im not sure if he would ever address this to any of the core seattle grunge rock bands or even his friends from Tool, but im pretty sure hes talking about handful of bands that became too popular because they incorporated one genre or the other but nothing created on their own. Eamples are Creed, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Offspring, Green Day <— look at them what they have become after had have their 5 mins of fame, just downward meaningless teenage acts.
I think the people with negative comments figure he is referring to Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and the other grunge bands that got famous. While he may be, I believe he was talking more about the bands “Kirill” described.
Everything the man said is truth. He’s not in the game to become a rich and famous baller prima-donna rockstar like 95% of bands are. And once they make it big, they get lazy and don’t really care about making music anymore. He’s in it for the fun and passion of making music that he likes, and sharing it with fans that also happen to like it.
And given the core of his band has been around for 30 years, while most of their peers have broken up repeatedly, or dissolved entirely, or OD’d or blew their heads off, it’s a pretty bold but truthful statement that probably needed to be said.
If you disagree, then you’re probably a Nickelback fan anyway.
Joe, go listen to your commerical crap that you see at the state fair every year with your fam. Real bands that do it for the right reasons & choose to do it so in a van down by the river.
real bands get rich too and if the melvins had better songs they would be rich like a bunch of other seattle bands
Bitter!
I like Buzz and the Melvins but what’s worse, somebody who has a lot of money or someone who calls people assholes presumably because he has no money?
The era of the “millionaire rock star” is pretty much over anyway due to rock’s declining popularity in the mainstream.
Come on, turn off the Creed and Nickelback guys. Please. Just turn it off.
so, being commercially unsuccessful is equal to being passionate? give me a fucking break. Buzz doesn’t have a drug habit because he doesn’t have time for one, working at a record store full time because his weekend band sucks.
I don’t agree, because the guys from AiC have lots of money and still make uber awesome music. I’m not sure, but maybe all Seattle bands still do. And Offspring is awesome, come on. They had some great songs in their new album. Not all, but they have.
Offspring? Yeah, right up there with Green Day.
What are some good, technically sound, creative songs by the Melvins?
Its about damn time Brett! Ban Mayan pleeeeease!?
Well Buzz, now tell us how you REALLY feel.
Yes! Everyone just immediately assume he was talking about Soundgarden or Alice in Chains. Seriously? You clowns get so defensive about imaginary insults about your favorite bands.
He’s likely talking about Nickelback, and I’m not just picking them out of the crowd randomly. They just seem to fit the description of playing mindless rock music with no clear motivation.
^Whats your favurite band?
@ John, oh thank you for telling us what the melvins mean, you must know them to be able to somehow know buzzo means beyond what his words say. since you two are so close give him a hug for me tomorrow when you guys jam. fucker
@Spoonman you dont know what exposure means and that alot of bands ride the wave and get rich because of it. Melvins never were that kinda band to begin with. They always done exactly the opposite of the trend. I mean, you may personally dislike what they write or record but you cant really deny the fact that all members of Nirvana, Soundgarden (Kim specifically) and to top that Mastadon, ISIS and TOOL are all huge fans of Melvins and friends of Buzz and Dale. So that means they write more than desent music to influence their friends and bands, and these ppl know more about music and art than you.
I guarantee the first two comments are from regulars on the Pearl Jam forum.
Not sure who specifically he is talking about. From all that I have read Buzz was good friends with Kurt Cobain. Sometimes the best thing that can happen is to not be successful.
All the 90′s Seattle bands started out touring in their vans and playing small gigs. The lure of a major record deal is really to be able to get your music out to the masses. Small labels like Subpop would never made Nirvana stars.
Despite his fame and fortune, Kurt resented that lifestyle. I read he didn’t like having to eat expensive French dinners when all he wanted was mac and cheese. He didn’t want to buy his Seattle mansion, but there was a lot of pressure for him to live in a bigger, nicer, place.
Buzz was interviewed saying as soon as Courtney came in the mix, he was pushed to the back. I think Buzz hates the all the circus that comes around with it. Maybe he is referring to guys like KidRock or other ego driven rock stars.
A lot of time that information is provided due to lack of support systems. Some rock stars come from broken homes with divorced parents and a lot don’t finish high school.
