JAMES IHA SAYS ‘NEVER SAY NEVER’ REGARDING REUNITING WITH BILLY CORGAN & SMASHING PUMPKINS

By: 20 November 2012 25 Comments

Here is a quote the Chicago Sun Times’ new interview with James Iha, regarding the possibility of reuniting with his ex-Smashing Pumpkins bandmate Billy Corgan:

“Never say never, but as I said we haven’t talked in a really long time [8-9 years]. I haven’t heard the new [Pumpkins] record.”

Corgan has called Iha a “piece of shit” and one of the worst human beings he has ever met in recent years.

    The last part…fucking lol

  • Andrei said:

Haha, I’m sure Corgan IS saying never.

  • John said:

I wonder if the alchemy would come back if d’arcy / Iha / Charmberlin came back …

Even if Corgan thinks they’re assholes, as an hardcore fan I am secretely hoping they would get together again..

Well it could be interesting for a project or something but as a permanent thing, meeeeh. I love the new band….

    2 things:

-If Billy hears James said that, I wouldn’t be surprised if it calmed his feelings toward Iha.

-James should definitely listen to Oceania.

    Believe there’s a typo here:

I’m guessing you mean the first Billy Corgan to be replaced with James Iha

  • vs.. said:

God, I hope this never, ever happens. Can’t take a step back just after you’ve taken huge strides forward by replacing this turd.

He would never be a formal part of “The Smashing Pumpkins” ever again I’m sure. Like I said, if they just officialize their reconciliation that would already been cool. Some musical collaboration? Maybe. Even like a SP show with James playing a couple of songs? That would be cool. At this point he would have a hard time replacing Jeff anyway.

  • Megamania said:

Jeff’s been with the band for more than 5 years now, and he’s too good to replace. The band’s better than ever, and he’s a big reason why.

Iha better stay away from the pumpkins as far as i am concerned. nothing against him, just jeff schroeder is way way better as a guitarist.

    Re: those last 2 posts

    Nice try Jeff!

BILLY CORGAN NEEDS TO LAY OFF THE CRACKPIPE. GUY HASN”T BEEN RELEVANT SINCE BILL CLINTON WAS IN OFFICE! MAKES SOME GOOD MUSIC AND THEN PEOPLE GIVE TWO SHITS WHAT SAY.

  • Ten said:

I’m amazed at how many people still think Billy’s best work is behind him. He’s one of only a couple musicians who have ever made some of their best music in their mid-40s. I’d take Oceania over Gish and SD in a heartbeat. It’s right up there with Adore as his two masterpieces. Who cares what the guy says? If he wasn’t still relevant, no one would want to interview him or give a crap about his opinions.

The “make good music and blahblahblah” argument is dead and gone officially with the amazing “Oceania”. Probably the most impressive album any band covered on this site has made since 2000 if you ask me.

“Black gives way to blue” deserves mentionning too IMO.

I am amazed that people actually SP’s new stuff is actually good. How much did Oceania sell, like 300 copies??? Best grunge album of the 2000′s??? Lmao. Even Zwan was better than this new shit he makes now.

    @Britney

    Ultimate troll!

  • CagedTiger said:

What’s the point? The 2 replacements for Iha and D’arcy are more talented and according to Billy have more input in the writing process than those 2 ever did. I’d welcome Jimmy back though, nothing against the new kid but Jimmy is another animal altogether on the drums…

  • Britney Spears said:

I’m not a troll, I hardly even come on this site, because everytime I come here, I see an article about Billy Corgan bitching about something. I discovered this site in the late 2000′s, and it use to be about grunge, now it just covers everything Billy Corgan does.

  • OUTSHINED said:

does james iha make any money from new smashing pumpkins albums as
it was him and billy that made the band dont they both own the name

  • John said:

    That escalated quickly

  • Ten said:

Again, someone comparing quality music with record sales?? Obviously Britney Spears hasn’t a f’n clue. Oceania isn’t a heavy album by any means, but it doesn’t matter because the songs are brilliant.

  • Megamania said:

@OUTSHINED No, “The Smashing Pumpkins” was Billy’s band from day one. When he signed the $1 million deal with Caroline Records pre-Gish, Billy’s name was the only one on the contract.

  • Scott McLean said:

Yeah you’re right Britney, it’s become way too much about what Billy thinks and he’s still a good musician but why’s he talking so much?

  • Shayla said:

If Billy wasn’t still relevant, none of you would waste your time talking about him. You’d just skip over the story and read the others.

  • Is he one? said:

Yeah I’m with Shayla, funny Billy threads are amongst the most popular on the site isn’t it?
