MAROON 5′S ADAM LEVINE SAYS HE’D DRUM FOR PEARL JAM

By: 26 November 2012 50 Comments

Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine recognized the crunch that Matt Cameron must be in touring with Soundgarden and trying to complete an album with Pearl Jam. Therefore, he kindly offered his services on Twitter:

“If Pearl Jam needs a temp drummer while Matt Cameron tours with Soundgarden, I’ve been practicing to your records since I was 11. I’m READY.”

Followers must have thought it was in jest, but Levine wasn’t kidding around.  ”I’m dead serious. I’m DEAD serious,” he tweeted.

Good to know Pearl Jam has options! Source

adam trash please, stay well away from my favorite band!

  • Is he one? said:

    Meh?

Still he is right. I can’t believe the original 4 members of PJ aren’t at least thinking about using another drummer.

  • Anne said:

Stay away from PJ, maroon 5!!!

  • Dennis said:

Kohl’s was selling a $50 guitar on Black Friday with this guy’s name on it. Sh*tty music sponsors sh*tty guitars. Boom

I wouldn’t be suprised if PJ ended up letting him be their new drummer.

  • lilrockable said:

Ugh, I can already see this turd releasing a “Better Man” and all his teeny bop girl fans going apeshit over it.

  • lilrockable said:

    ^^^ *Better Man cover

  • WTF???? said:

I don’t doubt he’s a fan of Pearl Jam necessarily, so I commend him on that.

I just don’t understand how someone even remotely influenced by Pearl Jam can spit out nothing but poppy, bubblegum, girl-music shit.

If he was a true fan of Pearl Jam, I would think he’d jump off a bridge when he heard the music he introduced to the world.

    Go figure.

at least the man has good taste.

This guy is the king fuck-up. An UBER-Douchebag of mythic proportions, naming his CHEESY-assed band’s last record “Hands All Over” after the Soundgarden song, though the 2 bands haven’t a STITCH in common. Cunt. Pecker breath. Captain Skidmarks.

  • kingchaz said:

What’s next, Ryan Gosling wants to sing for Velvet Revolver? Doesn’t music have enough douchebags? Doesn’t grunge have enough opinionated a-holes? :D

  • Christine said:

PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS TEMPORARY until Matt is done with the SG tour etc.

    Please?

Besides, if Grohl is busy with Josh, why can’t Taylor go drum with PJ?

  • Grungy said:

PJ needs a new drummer and any one is better than no one.
Sign the fucker he might be good. Plus ed would have a good time.

  • Kris said:

This guy is a total douche! I just can’t stand him.

  • Austin said:

Well, not much of a fan of Matt with PJ, he belongs with Soundgarden. Hell, this guy may be a good drummer for all we know.

  • Will said:

He should make a YouTube drum cover of a PJ song. Didn’t even know he played drums but if he did it right, I wouldn’t have a problem with him filling in.

  • Jafrica said:

I don’t care how good he is, for the sake of Pearl Jam fan’s, he shouldn’t do it. I really, passionately dislike Maroon 5, he doesn’t belong with PJ.

  • Trials said:

Oh come on you guys lighten up, this will probably only be a temporary thing and look at it this way he can’t be any worse on the kit than Jack Irons!
M5 are one of the better rock n roll bands to come out of the 2000′s and they sure have got some catchy fun songs too, would be great for PJ to mix up the set a little and do a cover of ‘This Love’ or ‘Moves Like Jagger’. PJ always do great covers and I don’t see why these would be any different. Give this guy a shot I say.

  • kingchaz said:

No offense Trials, but that is just awful. Maroon 5 is not a rock band, they are pop. PJ covering “Moves Like Jagger?” PLEASE tell me you are joking… That makes as much sense as Alice in Chains covering “Put A Ring On It.”

  • kingchaz said:

PS- Peal Jam covering Led Zeppelin’s “In The Evening” would be amazing.

  • Trials said:

As funny as the thought of AIC covering Beyonce is (and it’s hilarious!) I think that’s an unfair comparison. Maroon 5 are primarily a rock n roll band with a few poppy numbers for the radio. Pearl Jam have covered similar ‘pop-rock’ songs by The Beatles & The Beach Boys and have performed a cover of the straight up POap song ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion (If you don’t believe me, google it!) so what’s so bad about them covering ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and ‘This Love” while Adams filling in on drum duties? It would make a nice break in the set and would definitely get fans dancing and having a hoot!

  • Pseudonym Withheld said:

In my opinion Adam Levine is a talented singer, but I have never heard him play drums, so I will withhold judgement. I don’t think anyone really has, but that aside, let the record show that Brad Wilk auditioned for Pearl Jam and he was turned down. By most measures Brad Wilk is an excellent drummer in Audioslave and Rage Against the Machine, but his drumming style may not have fit with Pearl Jam’s ensemble sound at the time.

  • Trials said:

I think somebody above me made a joke about him joining VR but I think Adam would so totally fit, he has such an amazing voice <3

  • With Negativity said:

Yeah there’s a lot of dickhurt in these comments. I can’t stand Maroon 5. What I hear on the radio indicates that it’s not even a band; it’s Adam Levine and Friends. When I had no electricity for 6 days because of Hurricane Sandy, I had to listen to ‘Payphone’ and ‘One More Night’ over 50 times in order to hear updates on storm relief. With that said, I’m sure he is genuinely a fan of Pearl Jam, and his voice doesn’t really reveal what his instrumental talents really are.

So I did a little searching. Maybe the money just got in the way of them making rock music:

    And @Trials

I believe he sings on Slash’s album.

  • TC said:

Give Dave Krusen a call back, he was their most natural drummer.

  • Mawhonic said:

    Hahahaha no….

  • Iso said:

The fact that anyone would entertain for even a second that, “we should give Adam Levine a chance to play drums in Pearl Jam,” reflects a total lack of awareness, intelligence, nor even a moral compass.

  • Trials said:

@Iso – Chill out dude it’s only a temporary thing until Matt Cameron decides where his priorities lie. Also who are we to judge Adams drumming skills when none of us have even heard him yet?! Jeez some people are overreacting here, let’s give the guy a chance, Jack Irons had a shot on 2 albums and anything will be an improvement on those drum tracks!

  • Calvin McLain said:

I saw this guy all clowned up on SNL a few weeks ago. He dressed like a New Kids on the Block member playing for the Chinese in his all red. It was a god awful song also, but I’m yet to hear one that I enjoy. But to each’s own.

  • Tyrell Corp said:

    @Trials

    1. You better be joking about Irons. He’s not the tightest drummer, but he makes
up for it with tasteful drumming and a natural feel. Go listen to the RHCP record he played on and the 4 Eleven records he played on and then repent your ignorance.

    2. I don’t care if secretly Adam Levine is as good as John Bonham, he had no place playing with them. He has paved his way with superficial crap that he has no right to play with PJ.

  • sarper said:

I want dave abbruzzese back. He was the best

  • Shane C said:

I’d rather them not even have a drummer, or just simply quit, than do anything with this guy.

  • Britney Spears said:

I have more respect for Britney Spears.

  • Pete said:

“I just don’t understand how someone even remotely influenced by Pearl Jam can spit out nothing but poppy, bubblegum, girl-music shit.”

    this

  • Iso said:

Trials- quit while you’re not ahead numbnuts. Defending Adam “Maroon 5″ Levine on a website like this, among titans of real rock, you’re a fish way out of water ya idiot. Rather, you’re a tweenager enamored by his empty, vapid, dick-pop music. So shut the face.

  • Trials said:

    @Iso

Read the comments dude, I’m not the only fan of Adam and Maroon 5 on this site. So what if they’re not grunge?? Are you suggesting that everyone who posts on this site must only listen to one genre of music?? If so, you my friend are an idiot! In my CD collection you’ll find albums from AIC, Nirvana, PJ and then albums by Queen, Prince, MJ, Maroon 5 and Incubus. Variety is the spice of life! I can actually picture you in your flannel shirt and doc Martin boots crooning along to hunger strike in your bedroom and refusing to listen to anything that didn’t come out of Seattle!

    @Tyrell Corp

I’ve listened to Irons on early RHCP albums and on the 2 PJ albums and I’m not a fan if his drumming. I definitely feel he’s the weakest drummer to man the kit in both of those bands. In all honesty there’s a good chance Adam is a superior drummer.

  • Trials said:

Also I’ll point out AGAIN that PJ have covered Celine Dion’s ‘My heart will go on’ and other pop songs so they obviously have a diverse music taste and a sense of humour… I suggest some of you guys hating do the same thing, take off your flannel shirts and loosen up, it’s not 1993 anymore!

  • Shaun said:

Would about unemployed drummers like Jimmy Chamberlin or Brad Wilk? Either of the two would be great and would also be a much better fit then Adam Lavine, ugh.

  • Kevin E said:

    Dave Krusen……

  • cntfndavedderman said:

pearl jam doesn’t need anyone but matt!! he isn’t going anywhere!!

  • bmeade said:

It’s hard to take such a pretty guy seriously. First, he’s totally corporate. Theres no ‘fuck The man’ about him. He’s totally a rules follower/Momma’s boy whereas PJ and grunge in general is not founded on that type of personality.
Second, to say Adam should drum based solely on his skills isn’t the issue. It’s not all about musicianship. It’s about joining a band of social risk takers who’re known to fight for personal causes. Adam doesn’t embody that type of personality hence the odd fit and rejection. Sorry, Trials.
