BILLY CORGAN SAYS FORMER PAVEMENT FRONTMAN STEPHEN MALKMUS IS A VERY GOOD SONGWRITER

By: 9 December 2012 11 Comments

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan yet again took a jab at Pavement in a new interview with PhillyBlurbs.com, “Bands like that get to go out and just play their old songs and the media doesn’t skewer them,” he says. “I don’t get it. You won’t catch me doing that.”

But BillCo didn’t just rip Pavement this time, he also offered a compliment, “At first, I thought [Range Life, a song which has a lyric mocking the Smashing Pumpkins] was funny … but they wouldn’t let it go,” he says. “[Malkmus] is a very good songwriter. That line came out and that whole thing just got out of hand.”

Billy you have better things to be doing than trolling about Pavement and other bands. Billy is one of greatest musicians on the planet but makes a fool of himself so much. Please stop it Billy.

    It’s not that bad ^^

Read the article before you post comments. This writer asked billy about Pavement, then about Range Life. BC always says no questions are off the table, so you can’t rip the guy just for answering the questions he was asked. He talks about the same issues a lot because he is ASKED about the same issues a lot. Nothing wrong with that, so leave the guy alone.

Bill talks about old shit and waste time instead of talking about his new wrestling move.
    Called the Billy Bullshit F-Bomb.

Give us a break Versus, honestly. You can CHOOSE to answer questions, duck others or change topic. You can answer questions with tact & grace, or you can sling shit and be dick munch. No one is forcing Corgan to be as childishly critical as he always gets, fuck that. He shits on Soundgarden for touring old songs without a new album to promote. Then he shits on that new album calling it “so 1997″ or to the effect. He has to stop. If Billy is so easily ‘baited’ by any given interviewer, then that’s his fucking shortcoming…

I disagree, Iso. Only a pussy would duck the questions. It’s awesome that he allows the interviewer to ask ANY question he/she chooses and gets an answer. He never directly commented on Soundgarden’s album, either; it’s only speculation that SG was who he was referring. What the hell is tact and grace, anyway? These are rock stars, not fucking ballerinas. When Cornell said SP’s reunion wasn’t legit, he had the right to say what he thought. I wouldn’t think for a second that he was a turd for saying it if that’s how he felt.

You disagree, dWill. Good for you. “A pussy” doesn’t give it all away? Just gives it all over? Whatever happened to that modicum of mystery? You need to know every little piddley-shit thing? A person can have the dignity to ‘not comment’. Everyone fully well knows Corgan was slagging Soundgarden, don’t be thick. If you don’t know what tact & grace are you’re as blunt and dulled as it gets. Live with that. Kim Thayil is an example of one who deals with interviews with tact and grace. He’s not a ballerina. Just because they are musicians doesn’t mean there can’t be half a brain among them. Please. Work it.

You hate Corgan. We get it. There’s nothing wrong with him giving interviews. If people didn’t care about what he had to say, they wouldn’t waste their time with the guy. He likes to give his opinion when he’s asked questions. It’s really not a big deal, and you shouldn’t make it one. Hey, maybe it’s time to be an adult and get over it already.

  • Iso said:

And you love Corgan. We get it.
Adulthood has nothing to do with this smart guy. I just addressed the shit you were saying to me.

Billy put his big boy pants on!

Look, I love Billy as an artist… but he talks more bullshit than any other musician ever. Being pissed at Pavement is petty.
