You would think with a library as big as Billy Corgans they would mix it up a bit more. Isn’t this the same exact set list every night? Maybe one or two songs flip flop in the encore but thats it. Pretty sad for a guy that has probably 300 songs to pick from.

Tedious setlists. I’m glad I didn’t pony up for a ticket.

Corgan’s gotten a bit lazy with the setlists the past few years. But with playing a full album, you have to add the hits. With that being said, there’s several hits that aren’t being added. Where’s Siva, Rhinoceros, Drown, Rocket, 1979, Thirty-Three, Perfect, Stand Inside Your Love, and Tarantula?

Maybe Corgan just doesn’t see the point in putting the time in rehearsing and playing different setlists to such divided crowds.

Sure, I would have loved to have heard “Siva,” “1979,” “The Everlasting Gaze,” etc. but it was an awesome show. The band knows what they’re up against. They realize that the first half of the show is gonna be met with shrugs from most of the audience, but I have to say, I went in with the attitude of “There are only a few Oceania songs I’m really interested in hearing” but I ended up really enjoying it, minus “Wildflower,” which was even more dull live than on the record.

I dunno, even though I wasn’t really surprised by anything, it gave me a new sense of respect for Billy. When he announces that they’re gonna play a brand-new song and dozens of people IMMEDIATELY head for the exits before it even starts, it just reinforces how right he is about the state of modern audiences and their expectations. Hell, even his comment right before they played the title track–”We’re in the middle of playing our new record, Oceania”–minor polite applause–”and after that, we’re gonna play some of the classics”–crowd ROARS…it’s kind of pathetic. I get that people want to hear their old favorites but they’re not even willing to give the new material a chance. God forbid they listen to something that they didn’t hear when they were 16.

So yeah, great show. My favorites were “Glissandra,” “XYU” and the badass new arrangement of “Ava Adore.” Holy crap, I’d love to hear a studio version of that, it was awesome.

Funny, I wouldnt expect anything different but when I saw them in Camden the crowd reaction went exactly as you wrote it. People booed before “The Dream Machine” and it seemed that only me and buddy who knew how AMAZING that song is got hyped. Either way, gotta be such a disappointing experience for the band to get that night after night. I am siked for the next time they come around with a more mixed set.

Actually, there was one guy in the front row who must have cheered when they announced “Dream Machine,” because Billy said something like, “This kid’s heard it, we’re dedicating it to you.” But yeah, it wound up being a pretty sweet song. Maybe a little long but honestly, I could say the same thing about “Hummer” or “XYU.”
