PAUL MCCARTNEY TO FRONT NIRVANA REUNION TONIGHT IN NEW YORK

By: 12 December 2012 57 Comments

It’s strongly rumored that at tonight’s 12-12-12 concert to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims tonight at NYC’s Madison Square Garden will feature another huge collaboration, this one between Paul McCartney and the surviving members of Nirvana, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, according to an article that ran on UK’s the Sun. Pat Smear, who played guitar for Nirvana during their last 6 months, will also be part of the reunion.

“I didn’t really know who they were,” McCartney said of Grohl and Novoselic. “They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time? And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”

Nirvana are rumored to perform a new song with McCartney, that they recently wrote while jamming.

This sounds so weird….I know that Kurt was a huge Beatles fan but how is this going to sound with Paul McCartney as Kurt??? :(

  • eINESTEINent said:

    this pleases me

  • paulonious said:

they will be playing a non-Nirvana song, apparently something new. In other news, Courtney Love’s head was found in pieces after hearing the news that Paul McCartney has apparently “taken the place of Kurt Cobain in Nirvana”.

  • me said:

    pat will also be involved

  • Is he one? said:

This is very interesting. Surprising to know at first McCartney wouldn’t know who Dave is though.

  • henne said:

paul playing with nirvana??? what joke, that pathetic! paul accepting any invitation of shit, very sad!

  • henne said:

paul, career is ending today? negatively? Presenting on stage with members of Nirvana is a disgrace to the eternal Beatle.

:) Nirvana = shit and trash (forever) :D

  • paulonious said:

he knew who Dave was, he didn’t realize that the other two and Dave made up Nirvana.

  • Dennis said:

    This is capital

  • Jeremy said:

I’ve seen an interview where they asked Paul which group he would have wanted to be in, he said Nirvana…

  • NickG said:

Check loudwire.com, they’re saying the 4 of them had an impromptu jam session and wrote a brand new song that they will be performing

  • Is he one? said:

Just a thought, I guess that means Paul won’t be playing the bass. Probably acoustic guitar…

  • CagedTiger said:

    *Checks date… It’s not April 1st*

Macca singing Nirvana songs is going to sound so weird. Completely different vocal styles.

  • Is he one? said:

Who said he’ll be singing Nirvana songs ??!

  • CagedTiger said:

Well with the headline saying ‘Paul McCartney to front Nirvana reunion’ I kinda figured they’d be playing Nirvana songs!

  • Robert said:

This will be interesting to see Paul McCarthy to actually be fronting Nirvana tonight.

  • ben ooo said:

    Paul McCartney=Pure shit

  • Shadow on the Sun said:

Man, I wouldn’t even watch Paul try and sing Smells like or rape me. It’s cool in theory but it will sound like shit with him singing hard rock songs

  • Aaron said:

Well its all in good fun and for a good cause so I’m interested. Plus we don’t know what song they will play so don’t bash it yet.

  • peace_frog said:

Cant wait for most people to shit on this tomorrow. I dont look at this as anything more than what it is: The guys that played in Nirvana with Paul McCartney. Not “Nirvana”. If the music is good, great. If not, oh well. I hope it’s really good. I will keep an open mind. And I would guess they will sell this afterwards to raise more money for the benefit. It’s a good idea.

  • peace_frog said:

I think if they tried to put anyone in there that might sound like Nirvana, people would jump to conclusion. McCartney is choice that lets people know “hey, we are just trying to have some fun for charity.”

  • Katie said:

This is going to be interesting.

  • Andrei said:

If there’s one person in this entire world who’s suited to play with Nirvana – Cobain, is fucking Paul McCartney.

  • Magic Mike Mazzarone said:

    Taylor Momsen should front Nirvana.

  • jjc19461 said:

Taylor Momsen should front my dick.

    Yes

KC always said that Lennon was a thousand times better than McCartney.

  • Spoonman said:

im so excited….i hope there is a studio version of the new song

  • ben ooo said:

No kurt No Nirvana-No lennon No Beatles

  • Martin said:

Glad Nirvana is back. Hope they release a new album. Sure kurt was a big part of the band but dave and chris still played a huge part.

  • Abe Froman said:

Misleading headline as they will not be playing Nirvana material.

  • Butthole sniffer said:

Dude, I am going to get a surf board and surf Paul’s but hole for a while.

  • eINESTEINent said:

paul is too old is he will probably have a heart attack trying to be kurt

  • Smokey-Hell Nelson said:

I like how people are writing off Paul McCartney as if he can’t rock the fuck out. Ever heard the song Helter Skelter?

  • Butthole sniffer said:

Sniff my but hole Smokey Hell Nelson

  • Brett Buchanan said:

Abe, no it’s not. The members of Nirvana who are alive are performing together tonight, it just happens to be a new song with Paul McCartney.

  • Christine said:

IF THIS IS TRUE IT WILL BE FRIGGIN’ AWESOME IF THEY PULL SOMETHING OFF.

Vedder played with Roger Waters but only one song.

We’re watching the stream online. I had wanted to go to a local movie theater to see it.

I just donated $1,000 by credit card. I’ll worry about how to pay for it later.

  • Christine said:

Stephen Colbert is on 7:02pm PDT

  • Spoonman said:

i dont really see it as a nirvana reunion and i think thats just to grab headlines. im excited but lets not over sell this

  • jon said:

ii sure wish people would quit making this out to be a big deal, Krist & Dave have played together since the nirvana days, even on the last Foo album, and them being a backing band for a legend like Paul is cool, but its hardly Paul replacing Cobain.

  • Peace_Frog said:

Eddie didn’t come out for Baba O’Riley, nor Love Reign O’er Me. Hope’s dashed……

Roger Daltrey is on GH and maybe testosterone. Low bodyfat, leathery skin, still pretty jacked. Not judging.

Real good show so far. I’ve been glued. Springsteen is still great! Just wish Eddie came out with The Who. (bummer face).

  • Sonic_Junkie said:

They are NOT playing Nirvana songs, people. Its a brand new song… Krist just tweeted that it sounds like a cross between Helter Skelter and Scentless Apprentice

  • Peace_Frog said:

I could listen to a few more songs. I was digging that vibe!

  • Raj said:

Nirvana is one of the greatest bands of all time, Kurt Cobain revolutionized music. Nevermind sold 50 million albums and there has been a 1 billion pages written about Kurt.

Cool story, I always thought if Dave hadn’t formed the Foo Fighters he could have taken over as singer, with Krist on bass and Pat on guitar and maybe Chad Channing or Dale Crover on drums.

Dave’s always said those were Kurt’s songs and would never perform them. New Order was formed out of Joy Division’s Ian Curtis’ suicide. Phil Collins moved from drums to vocals after Gabriel left Genesis.

  • jeremy said:

I thought it was great, and awesome to see the guys together…

  • Peace_Frog said:

“McCartney sings with Nirvana before turning MSG into a fiery inferno killing thousands. More details on your late night news.”

  • Andrei said:

It was fucking awesome! It was so amazing seeing these 3 guys again, together on stage. Goddamn!

And that song sounded better than anything on King Animal. There, I said it.

  • Christine said:

    Oh
    My
    God

    That
    was
    too
    awesome

My jaw is still on the floor.

That song better be part of the itunes preorder.

And WHY did no one tell Billy Joel to get the HELL of the stage – he did a full set, and it was awful (Kanye was worse).

The Coldplay guy and Michael Stipe were brilliant

McCartney was supposed to marry me when I was 10 years old. I still love him anyway.

That was just too too awesome. Man oh man. I want that track / video clip, NOW.

  • Kristin said:

    IT WAS SOOOO AWESOME!!! AAAAHHHHHH!

  • tycobb667 said:

Far exceeded my expectations…Amazing performance! I hope they release it in some proper fashion…

Impromptu jam by surviving members of Nirvana still better than King Animal.

  • Andrei said:

    ^ Damn right, brother.

  • ben ooo said:

Closest to a “Nirvana Reunion” would be if Frances Bean join.

  • Chris J. said:

Brett, this is why music is the pop trash it is today. This is what ruined grunge. Your too “lazy”? You give grunge a bad name running the site like this, and tarnish the definition of what “grunge” means/meant. I know you’ve grown up in this shitty reality based tv, TMZ sensationalistic headline reporting, OC fake ass people land. But dont you care about the impression on all the kids that come to this site “learning” about grunge for the first time and don’t know the difference between your complete bullshit and what this music is really about… You would think you would have gotten a healthy ear full of this from your dad – LAME DUDE.

This wasn’t a “Nirvana Reunion”, the only people who have billed it as that is the fucking media, and douche Sir Paul who didn’t even know who Nirvana was.

Get a clue. This was the surviving members of Nirvana playing with Paul to play a brand new song from the SOUND CITY MOVIE SOUNDTRACK – NOT NIRVANA!!! This is NOT a Nirvana song, they did NOT perform as Nirvana, and Krist, Dave, and Pat all say the same thing – “not a Nirvana reunion, just jamming with Paul to make a Sound City Movie Soundtrack collaboration”
