NIRVANA AND PAUL MCCARTNEY TO PERFORM ON SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE TONIGHT
The Foo Fighters’ official Facebook and Twitter posted the above photo at NBC’s Studio 8H, with the caption “Second time’s a charm.”
Paul McCartney is this week’s musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Foo Fighters’ official Facebook previously posted photos of Dan Aykroyd and Steve Martin, adding to rumors that the surviving members of Nirvana would rejoin Paul McCartney tonight.
The group will most likely perform the new song “Cut Me Some Slack,” which was recently released on iTunes. Listen to the studio version of “Cut Me Some Slack” featuring Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear:

Dude this beats the heck out of watching hype by myself on a saturday evening and sticking my finger in my crack and then pulling it out so i can sniff my but hole.
I will watch this.
cant wait to see this, and LOVE the studio version, Paul really is a Freak of nature to sound like that and rock that hard at 70 years old.
Stop calling this nightmare nirvana because its not and never will be. That band is dead and gone. Kurt wanted to fire both dave and krist before he died. I can’t believe grolh has the nerve to allow this project to be labeled as nirvana.
You know what, I’m a long-time Nirvana fan and get fairly sick of seeing the marketing and never-ending stream of tee shirts with Nirvana branded imagery, but my first thought when seeing this performance tonight was ” holy sh!t! that’s paurl mccartney with nirvana as his backing band!”
3/4 of the band are there. one of them is a founding member. if they want to call it nirvana that is up to them, nobody else.
@shnarf – Considering Cobain was ultimately a suicidal, demented coward who cares whether he “wanted” to fire anyone? He fired himself – permanently. And nobody is marketing this as Nirvana either – just the individuals who happen to have been in Nirvana, plus McCartney. So quit making a fuss over some perceived slight that doesn’t exist. Just enjoy the music, if you can or care to.
Paul rocked ! Dave Grohl was all in, you could see it and hear it! The whole group was all in.
They should do more work together. Maybe the whiners prefer that same passion, but with
The vocals more off pitch ????
The thing I don’t get is people bitching about this being called “Nirvana”. NONE of remaining band members have referred to as Nirvana, not once. They have no control as to what the media wants to label it. They play none of their old back catalog and it doesn’t sound like they plan too. It’s just a bunch of old friends getting to together and jamming some new stuff.
There is not name for this… Its the media who refer to this as Nirvana. I don’t hear anyone calling it a Nirvana reunion other than the media.
Kurt was so strung out on drugs near to his death, its hard to take anything seriously. Pearl Jam almost broke up numerous times… There is no saying what would have happened to these other 3 guys (although I think Pat Smear is a huge tool) so for them to jam together is fine. They aren’t playing old Nirvana songs…
As for them playing Nirvana songs, its up to them. It really is. It isn’t up to us. Who is anyone to say what these guys do or don’t do. For me, I really like Krist and Dave, and they have delivered me so much great music, I don’t really care what they choose to do here. I just offer my thanks for the multiple albums these two have contributed over the years.
As for the people who say Nirvana is dead, that is not really true. Kurt Cobain is dead. Kurt himself underlined Dave and Krist’s contributions numerous times.
Guys their shouldn’t be a debate on this. Lets all calm down and let these guys do whatever they got to do. I am sure with Krist and Dave at the helm nothing will be done in bad taste.
To: Shut Up Already – Amen man, good call.
It’s not the band referring to themselves as Nirvana, it’s the media struggling to put a label on it. (like this site)
Sure, it’s a reunion of guys who used to play in Nirvana, getting back together to do something new, which I think is great; it’s just not going to be called what so many people want it to be.
We call it Nirvana in the headlines because writing out “the surviving members of Nirvana” or “Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear” in every headline is not practical. However, in the text of the article, I specified and did not simply use “Nirvana.”
Pat Smear is no fucking tool he is true punk rock!!!
People need to have some class about this.
This song is brilliant.
McCartney is brilliant.
It’s pure genius on the part of all four of them.
All music fans regardless of Nirvana or Beatles or anything else should be wetting their pants over the performance for the 12-12-12 benefit and on SNL.
If you don’t understand exactly how earth shattering and glass ceiling breaking this track is watch McCartney during the SNL version in HD.
Anyone who doesn’t get the genius of this needs to step off, now.
Most of us will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be able to do what McCartney did on this ONE Track, at age 70 no less.
Money where your mouth is: they nailed it. No smack talk, no complaining about what other people are playing or not playing, selling or not selling, doing or not doing – they simply R O C K E D.
If you don’t get it, you should visit another site or go follow BillCo’s whiney butt around the internet.
I’m 47, I’ve loved McCartney as far back as my first memories – the fact that Grohl et al pulled this together is nothing short of a miracle, is pure genius, and I will even go as far as to say that if either Lennon or Cobain were alive, they would fricking LOVE this track.
Haters need to step off. Seriously. If you can’t see or hear the genius in it, it is your loss. If you want to argue semantics go to Courtney Love or Billy Corgan’s websites to do so – or better yet, grow up.
Merry Christmas everyone!

PS: Anyone slagging Kurt on this site should be banned. IMHO.
“Not practical”; stfu up with the weak excuses Paul, at least Brett was honest when he said he was too lazy.
Christine: people can say what they want about Cobain. The guy wrote some great music, but that does not make him exempt from criticism. The idol worship on this website is one of the funniest things in the world to me.
It has nothing to do with idol worship, it has to do with respect for the topic at hand, and he isn’t (often) the topic. People live to run into threads that are titled Nirvana or Courtney and immediately start name calling and slagging – it’s a complete drag. “Keep it off my wave” is another way of putting it. This song is amazing, this event is amazing, Sound City is amazing, and people who jump in just to talk smack when the rest of us are trying to enjoy what we have today, not argue about what happened (to him). If people want to talk about Cobain, wait for a Cobain thread. This is McCartney, Grohl, Krist, and Pat news.
