CHRIS CORNELL DIDN’T WANT TO MAKE VIDEOS IN THE 90S, TALKS “BLACK HOLE SUN”

By: 17 December 2012 7 Comments

Chris Cornell recently dished on his attitude about making music videos back at the height of the 90s, and of course his feelings on the most popular Soundgarden clip of all time, “Black Hole Sun”.

“By the time ‘Black Hole Sun’ came around, I was really disillusioned with the whole process and didn’t really want to make videos,” Cornell said. “We just read treatments for it, and Howard Greenhalgh’s treatment just read weird as the video turned out. I suggested we just pick one that we want, try to find a great one, and let the guy do whatever he wants. We should just be there and not emote, not pretend to be excited to play the song, deadpan, stand there, and do absolutely nothing.” Source

Correct- it’s not an appropriate photo at this time. That being said, I love the photo. It’s a great fuckin shot.

Ironically, with the state grunge was going to,the song’s message, and what else was going on parelel to them in the video, the no emotion thing makes the video the classic it is today in hindsight.

i have loved sg since 91 and think they are still great-

this comment is lame though; if ya really didn’t want to make videos anymore, ya wouldn’t of…and continued to do so through 96….
