DAVE GROHL DENIES NIRVANA REUNION TOUR RUMORS
The New York Post is reporting that contrary to prior rumors Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will not be taking “Sirvana” or any new version of Nirvana on tour. At first the newspaper sparked rumors that a tour would happen after sources were told that Grohl was telling friends about a “Nirvana Anniversary tour with a secret frontman”. However, reps for Grohl soon axed the rumors calling them “nonsense”.

It wouldn’t be a Nirvana reunion tour! Unless you were able to find a really fucking talented psychic…that, and they themselves would actually have to acknowledge what everyone is trying to make it out to be.
This is ridiculous, sensationalist reporting.
And it’s kind of funny, everyone is usually up in arms about other bands who are actually trying really hard to be accepted while working with new line-ups and still using their original name (Smashing Pumpkins, Guns N’ Roses, AIC, etc.) Hell, people didn’t even want VR to call themselves VR without Weiland, but this “band”, who have never referred to themselves as anything but McCartney, Grohl, Smear and Novoselic (but maybe not in that order) can’t fucking seem to shake the name Nirvana. Which I thought people would’ve had a bigger issue with considering the legendary status of Kurt and Nirvana. To paraphrase The Doors; People are fucking strange.
The Doors also toured with guest singers after Morrison died.
Next.
Surprise Surprise! It was media hype calling it a Nirvana reunion in the first place. It never was and never was going to be.
Whoever is hoping for a tour probably wasn’t even alive when NIRVANA existed.
Get over it and enjoy this one-off thing (and btw…the song has no ‘NIRVANA’ on it)
PiE, I think you hit the nail on the head about the ages of people pining for some new Nirvana material or a tour.
Personally I think the Sirvana name is hysterical & perfect for sites like this where the editor is too lazy, or for others who ‘don’t find it practical’ to write ‘Grohl & Friends’. (Whew, writing that took a lot out of me, I can see what Brett & Paul mean)
I don’t think so. calling it nirvana or sirvana whatever…is not important. they were nirvana it’s important. and they united without kurt. even though it is just a one event. that is truth.
“Magic” Mike… Your response is comically illogical as you tried to dismiss my post yet ended up validating it with what you thought was a clever retort, which only added one more band to the list of bands in my post who embraced using their name and therefor can be called The Doors. Back to the drawing board, good sir. You can do better.
Unglue, you must have missed the bill that had their performance title: “Dave Grohl & Friends”(youtube videos for Dave Grohl @ the benefit if you want to research it yourself)
THAT is truth sir.
Once again, I will stand corrected when I see the Sound City track list crediting Nirvana w/ Paul McCartney when it’s announced.
Oh… wait. The track listing is already out. . . . and… and.. it credits Nirvana right?
……right?
nirvana = band of shit, paul mccartney is old and decaying for accepting this invitation to play with that band pathetic!
I didn’t think there was anything pathetic about this. The three guys wanted to play together again, and who gets the chance to collaborate with an ex-Beatle? They jammed, wrote a surprisingly decent song, and performed it a couple times. I’m sure it was a fun little ride for all of them.
Amen versus, that’s the whole point of this, a few musicians collaborated on a song and the end result was pretty cool; it’s too bad everyone feels the need to instantly label it as something it’s clearly not.
Abe Froman/ At first. I respect your opinion.
I knew, but I mean Paul says Nirvana Reunion.
Some Pictures show that there is nirvana reunion on the screen, some people didn’t like the title but other like me could admit that title. whatever…Kurt is important also Dave, krist and Pat are Nirvana. so That gig has an emblem for Nirvana mania and 1990s Teens. So It still could be Nirvana Reunion.
Dave does not need this like the guys from the Doors did. He has another band that has done ok.
Its not Nirvana without Kurt Cobain. Besides, Dave Grohl has sold out to pop music. Doesn’t he have more important things to do like making his next Nickelback sound alike album???
Who cares about the name, even if they did choose to call it “Paul McC. & Nirvana”? Were these three guys not in Nirvana? OK, Smear as a member of Nirvana is a bit of a stretch, as he only toured with them for about half a year. Either way, what’s the difference?
@Megamania
Kurt said Pat likely would have been on some new music and was supposed to have recorded his guitar part on You Know You’re Right. that didn’t happen because Kurt died soon after. He was a member and was featured in later photoshoots and on Unplugged, so don’t discredit him as a member.
It’s most likely because he put Foo Fighters on Hiatus because he was tired after just touring for a year
Megamania, personally, I don’t care if they use the name Nirvana or not, what I have maintained all along is that they are not using the name. With the exception of what McCartney said on stage, and the twitter hash tag reference, no one has used the name except for media outlets.
How was the band billed on SNL? I believe it was Paul McCartney with special guests. The bill backstage @ 121212 had them down as Dave Grohl & friends. I hope they all play together again, but the whole Nirvana Reunion is a poor characterization of this project as they are not playing Nirvana music. It’s only a natural reaction for a site like this one to hit the ground running with the whole Nirvana reunion thing without worrying about the facts.
F Nirvana’s legacy, I could give a hobo’s crap about that.
My point was it doesn’t matter what you call it. This little project was just some guys having fun playing music. Also, I meant no disrespect to Smear. I do remember Kurt saying he was a member of the band, and not just a touring guitarist. He just never had the chance to record in the studio with the band. On a side note, does anyone else remember Smear’s appearances on Cindy Crawford’s MTV show (think it was called House of Style)??
I’m a hardcore Nirvana fan, I own every album plus the boxset. I agree with Dave’s decision. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana died April 5th, 1994. Dave said he would never play Kurt’s songs out of respect for him. If Dave was going to take over for Kurt, he would have done it in 1995.
Dave Grohl’s involvement with Nirvana has given him a life living in the shadows of Kurt Cobain and reviving Nirvana will only make him and the other surviving members live in the past. Nirvana is Kurt Cobain, enough said.
Krist and Pat can tour with the little help of the Foo Fighters XD
I watched the SNL performance again today, I’ve lost count as to how many times I’ve watched it. It has to be cranked up loud, very loud.
If you’re all still searching for what to “call” the performance how about just using the song name or try Sir-vana.
I was watching of the BBC 7 Ages of Rock episodes today, and Michael Azerrad at one point mentions Kurt’s search for a blend of Black Sabbath and the Beatles.
If this track isn’t that, at least, the way McCartney performed in on SNL where he let loose at the end, I don’t know what is.
It’s heaven sent – I love it. Please stop fighting, if you listen to it a dozen more times and watch McCartney, you’ll realize it’s bigger than all of us combined.
Truly.
PS: The Download for the 12-12-12 Concert is available off of iTunes now.
The song is NOT part of the download.
The only McCartney track given is Helter Skelter.
FYI for anyone thinking the live version would be on the 12-12-12 official download.
