Never disappoints! Waiting for the album!

  • Superunknown said:

How is this NOT the HEADLINE?!?!

  • Tobias Funke said:

That was good. Not fantastic but I enjoyed it. Largely keeping the same vibe and sound as BGWTB i see.

  • BonerJam said:

    It’s better than expected, sweet.

  • LoveHateLove said:

Worth the wait and technical difficulties…wish William’s mike wasn’t turned down so much…

  • Andrei said:

Brett, make this as a headline, please.

The song is heavy and awesome! A great rocker!

I really love the bridge, it’s amazingly beautiful.

True, they never disappoint! Sounds better than all of King Animal put together.

  • cosmicatomic said:

Is it on iTunes yet? I need a digital copy!

  • Andrei said:

Download it from YouTUBE; just make sure you get the HD version.

I’m listening to it on my headphones. Goddamn, it’s awesome!

  • slagun said:

    Alice never disappoints!

  • Andrei said:

Jerry Cantrell was always the best one out of Cobain, Vedder, Stone and Cornell.

    This is proof. Once again.

I swear to God, the bridge with “Silence, so loud, I can’t tell my up from down” is one of the best passages ever in an AIC song. It just explodes and it takes you to this place that only an AIC song can take you.

  • SuperSG said:

    @Andrei
I sure as hell hope you arent saying Cantrell is a better singer than Cornell. Cuz although I actually respect what you say, Jerry is NOT better than Cornell vocally! Freddie Mercury. Thats it!
Jerry is definately the best Grunge guitarist though.
The song sounds Great BTW. BGWTB is a great album. I put it third best album since 97′ behind King Animal and Epinonymous Audioslave.

  • Deviate said:

    Holy shit.. I love it.

I have a strong feeling this album might one-up BGWTB to be honest. Now that they’ve gotten their “comeback” effort out of the way, there is less pressure, and they have had more time and chemistry with DuVall.

I think this song sounds amazing.

  • pa said:

That song is around 3min too long. Other than that it sounds like something off their last album.

  • yourmomspenis said:

“Silence, so loud, I can’t tell my up from down” – it’s a reference to a cave or smth like that!

  • Hollow_as_a_mountain said:

    or your mom’s cave :D

  • Andrei said:

    @SuperSG

    I meant it as a guitarist/songwriter.

Jerry Cantrell blows everyone out of the water when writing a good song. This guys is just unbelievable. This new album will be NUCLEAR!

My top 5 favorite grunge/alternative rock albumms:

    1. Nevermind – Nirvana
    2. Ten – Pearl Jam
    3. Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness
    4. Dirt – Alice In Chains
    5. Siamese Dream – The Smashing Pumpkins

  • Lando said:

The most respected band from Seattle. This song makes me think that the album will be better than BGWTB or SG’s King Animal!

  • Katie said:

    Perfection

  • spifftastic sex said:

Not difficult to top King Animal, which was the most boring and bland Soundgarden effort ever. Although this is much better, it still leaves some to desire.

  • Pedro said:

    This is perfection indeed.

    AiC kicking Soundgarden’s ass!

  • Casper said:

Am I the only one who thinks the chorus is cheesy? However, musically it’s very good. Sludge-like, muddy guitars. It does sound like a B-side from BGWTB. Hope the album progresses somewhat from their previous album.

  • Ken said:

I liked it ok, it’s kind of hard to listen to since the riff is kind of off key.

  • lilrockable said:

THAT WAS INSANE, completely worth the wait. I love that riff, it’s one of their best

  • kingchaz said:

I was the 304th to watch!

  • uckmeNOuckyou said:

Not bad but just a song from BGWTB same formula. People always go ape with the first new song Shit didnt the the guy called Brett say BATL on KA was the bomb? Then changed his tune after a few days?

  • Superunknown said:

    Better than BGWTB

  • Kev said:

    In the news 2012/2013

QOTSA – Doing what seems to be like something really special
Deftones – Releasing an amazing album
Soundgarden – Well that’s news in itself
    This Soundcity thing – DAMMMM
    AIC – Goosebumps

    Worthy mentions:
    Depeche Mode
    Tool
    Puscifer
    Palms

  • Dave said:

I got bored with the song half way through, long intro – lyrics and singing are dragging – not impressed at all –

Sounds too much like the 90′s or trying to much to re-capture that sound and moment, which is far gone my friends….AIC Should listen to king animal and take notes!

  • Andrei said:

    ^ You’re funny.

The scary thing, though, is that you were serious.

  • Matt said:

Why can’t Stone Temple Pilots put out a kickass new rock album like AIC do? Why can’t they put out a “Core/Purple Era” album? Not trying to rant on AIC’s big day. I love AIC and it just goes to show how lazy and how poorly managed STP is. They can’t even put out a 20th anniversay deluxe edition of Core!!!! People forget that STP outsold every grunge act in the United States. STP was huge in America but didn’t do shit in every other country becuase Weiland was so messed up. It’s just when I see other grunge era bands doing good it makes me want something from STP. Congrats AIC!!!

  • Dreux said:

Good song, but I’m kind of disappointed it sounds so much like BGWTB. I want this new album to be Dirt to BGWTB’s Facelift, not a part 2. Either way, I’m gonna get this album, and I do like that it’s much heavier than most of the stuff on BGWTB. Has a trace of a Tripod vibe, which is perfectly fine by me.

  • Dan said:

I really like it, and I’d say it’s a “grower.” I liked it right away, but even more with repeated listens.

  • Ben said:

    @ Dreux

I agree it is a good song but I too am disappointed that it sounds so much like BGWTB.
I was hoping after BGWTB that they could expand there musical direction rather than follow the same structure. Hoping the rest of the album doesn’t sound like BGWTB part 2.

  • Kram said:

Vomit. What a surprise, Jerry’s vocals are loudest….

  • David said:

Fuck yes this was worth it! I think IC i finnaly back into the groove again! This is the dark shit I could always relate to from them.

I’m also impressed that little contest actually worked and made a good video. That was a great way to build fan anticipation, and great free marketing.

I JUST HOPE THE ALBUM IS SONICALLY MASTERED RIGHT.atleast a 180grm vinyl release with quality sound.

  • Eu said:

    Amazing

  • Craigory52 said:

Sounds great like BGWTB! The doom/sludgy verses remind me of something from Dirt. This will be just as good if not better than their previous stellar effort.

  • Raj said:

This song is amazing! When Jerry and William dual harmonize they sound like Layne during the verses. Layne’s spirit is definitely alive, this is track that could have been on Dirt.

It sounds like they have turned up William’s vocals, I remember on BGWTB it was pretty much Jerry singing or Duvall’s vocals were turned down a lot. Heck, even the radio DJs kept saying how great the new singer was when in fact it was Jerry:)

Jerry did things the right way, he asked Layne’s Mom for permission, didn’t audition singers he used William because he worked with him on his solo stuff. He’s always maintained there is no singer for AIC, William is singing the main parts so Jerry can do his backing vocals.

  • Jerryhasballs said:

    It shows promise

But Jerry can write a better song. This one is missing an extra part. The section people refer to as the ‘chorus’ doesn’t really work as one. It’s a pre-chorus, a development of the verse, but not an answer to it. So after it plays, you are still waiting for the real chorus and left hanging. The bridge is okay, but without the missing piece it seems out of place, the song isn’t ready for it yet.

Hopefully he took the appropriate time on the the other tracks to make complete songs. He’s certainly capable of it.

The content of this one is great. Its all great ideas, well played, etc, just missing something structurally.

    I aprove this song
    thank you for your attention

  • Shadows Collide with People said:

Great song. Very dark, sludgy and brooding. It is vintage Alice in Chains with out a doubt. This track sounds a bit like “Get Born Again”. This song offers nothing new and nothing on it is over the top. Great lyrics and solid vocals by William Duvall. AIC is one of the very few bands on the plant that can sick to their original sound day in and day out without ever sounding boring or forgettable.

  • GenXLady said:

    Awesome!

  • Kimberly said:

    @Shadows Collide with People

    I agree with you 100%.

This song is awesome. Definitely lived up to my expectations. So stoked for the new album if this track is an indication of what’s in store.

  • Ef said:

    Epic!

  • Robert said:

The song is great sludgier. I like the duel vocals by Jerry and Will.

  • Koji said:

an honest opinion… I like it, but for the first time since they reformed with Duvall, I feel they’re missing a big piece. I didn’t feel this way that much with A Looking In View or any other tracks from BGWTB. it was a great record. but this song from what I hear so far, it really does sounds “Hollow” to me.. Not that it’s bad, like I said I like it.. but I think those lyrics says it all in a way, I believe it was penned by Cantrell.. “Silence, So loud, I can’t tell my up from down” I assume it’s a refference to Layne Staley.

  • Iso said:

Usher in the wave of criticisms… yeah fuck that.

The song is awesome. Listen to it through a killer set of speakers and one gets the full effect. Excellent. Fatuous are those voices being dicks about it.

  • Daniannie said:

Loved it. Great bridge, great solo, great vocals. Ready to hear more.

  • Elle said:

This sounds like classic Alice in Chains from the 90′s. I can’t wait for the new album.

  • Megamania said:

It’s rare I think a song is pretty good after hearing it just once. I like this though, and can’t wait to hear more AIC. I need more new music to listen to. The last new album I bought was King Animal, and I’m already bored listening to it.

  • den said:

Greetings from the land down under, well what can i say but bloody unreal cobber, have waited long and patiently for this,BGWTB was a surprise and i am still listening to it and loving it.Unfortunately, yes it is true no Layne on this track but that was then this is now.Sameness is our SALVATION.AIC are back and hopefully will endear a new legion of fans, and in the process tear the formulaic music world a new one in the process.AMEN

  • Russ said:

This song is EPIC!!! Cannot wait for the album!

  • Kirill said:

This song is very reminiscent of old AIC, im not sure how ppl can say its BGWTB part II. As one person has said, its very similar to Get Born Again in some way with elements of longer songs on DIRT

  • ThemBoners said:

good, good…the sound is grinding, vocals – shrieking…just like an Alice In Chains song should be.

  • Sasa said:

AIC never changed the direction in their musical style. NEVER.
And that’s why they’re gonna be the BIGGEST.
Thank you for refreshing the sound of the 90′s.
This song is fucking amazing, fucking dark, fucking heavy an’ fuckin’ AIC-ish.

  • Dennis said:

    Sludgy, Dirty, Dark, and Heavy.

Everything I want in a Jerry riff. Bravo

  • Brett Buchanan said:

Meh. I seriously hope this is a preview song and not the lead single.

  • Brad said:

The lyrics are fucking terribad. Cool idea but it just didn’t work.
and how hard is it to come up with a sludgy drop d riff?
I hate to say it but AiC post Layne is a one trick pony.

  • allforlayne said:

Good number, well produced, haunting guitar mix/riff, voice combination not surprising. all AIC trademarks are there, but too many echoes of
A looking in view. Lyrics well put but a bit… hollow , compared to the glorious past. Still , I am going to love some new AIC album and I can’t wait what it brings in his whole. RIP my Angel Layne ! Nobody has come close to you so far.

  • YUMM said:

I like it. But sounds too much like BGWTB. Alot of people compared them to AC/DC when they cameback. Hopefully they dont do what AC/DC does and keeps making the same record over and over again.

It gets better with the second and third listen

  • Laura said:

I agree with those that have said it gets better with listening to the second and third time. The chorus is lame . The song starts off beautiful AIC style then loses me when chorus kicks in. Hopefully the album will kick me in the ass for thinking the chorus was lame. Always down for Jerry & Sean though. Long live Alice. \m/
