GRUNGEREPORT.NET 2012 AWARDS VOTING: SINGLE OF THE YEAR
I decided to do ‘Single of the Year’ rather than ‘Music Video of the Year’ this year since some bands did not do music videos for their singles. I listed Alice In Chains’ Hollow despite it not being a radio single, but it is a digital single release for their upcoming fifth album.

i think the best single of the year is the one of Soundgarden, it sounds cool and clasic as all the soundgarden’s songs. they had preserved their own style all these year!!!
PD: i’m kinda dissapointed about the single HOLLOW cause it sounds just the same as the other AIC’s heavies songs with William as singer. i was hoping a fast and really heavy song like AGAIN or Sickman but it is really cool anyway. i love the other singles too, specially Mark Lanegan’s song. I LOVE THEM

We reported that it wasn’t a RADIO single. That doesn’t change the fact that it is a digital single release.
Hollow is winning this? Really? Not that it matters or anything, but I can think of 3 or 4 songs on this list that easily top that one.
It’s a great song but I can’t believe it’s winning either personally.
People were blasting about it being too “loud” the other day.
Lanegan, Sirvana, Soundgarden…all better choices in my opinion. I think it’s only winning because of the “new” factor.

The chili peppers arent’t worth a penny anymore… This “brendan’s death song” is a joke..
A bit dispointed by Hollow at first because I found it to be too “metal” , but after relistening , it´s a decent song.
It was a toss up between AIC and Mark, ended up with AIC

Gravedigger’s Song is definitely the best on there. It’s one of my favorites on Blues Funeral. And Mark Lanegan singing “I love you” in French is just about as sexy as it can get.
Not even close Been Away Too Long and the video is futuristic and also #1 it fits the beat perfectly. How they do it is beyond me, It’s just like the Blackholesun video. Been Away too long is so cool, the thing them being away too long but just needing a break. How they did it is beyond me.
Boy!! This is a hard one, Lanegan’s Gravedigger’s Song is great but so is AIC’s Hollow, and SG’s Been Away Too Long.
As I post this, 182 people voted for Been Away Too Long. I can’t help but ask: are you guys deaf? No diss to Soundgarden, there are plenty decent songs on King Animal, but this song is NOT good. This poll isn’t “Vote for your favorite band.” Keep it real, kids.
This feels like the MLB All-Star voting, it’s nothing but a popularity contest. I love SG & AIC, but I don’t think Been Away or Hollow can hold a candle to Gravedigger’s Song.
BUT at the end of the day, what far too many people here forget, opinions on music are 100% subjective, nobody’s wrong which makes many of the arguments on this site downright hysterical.
