KIM THAYIL DISCUSSES SOUNDGARDEN’S NEXT ALBUM & ‘BY CROOKED STEPS’ MUSIC VIDEO

By: 2 January 2013 6 Comments

Here are two excerpts from TheAquarian.com‘s new interview with Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil:

On shooting the By Crooked Steps music video directed by Dave Grohl: “It was fine. We’re not good at being told what to do, and Dave is really good at not telling us what to do. He just said, ‘This is what I wrote, do you want to do it?’ It was a pretty good idea. It went really well; no conflicts, no friction. Sometimes directors want you to be actors or stuntmen; I just want to play guitar and Dave being a musician understands.”

On if there will be another Soundgarden album: “Yeah, I think there will be. I am really proud of ourselves that we can be angry on stage, and express our emotions with our guitars and with our drums, whether it’s anger or wistful.”

Looking forward to more from SG, they always have had great energy. Kim Thayil, you have been missed since Probot.

PS… “By Crooked Steps” has similar energy to “Searching With My Good Eye Closed” and even “Fourth of July.” Both have an eerie, haunting sound. Always gives me imagery of giant, open landscapes with massive machines in the sky, stretching beyond the scope of sight. I love when music creates imagery like this.
