SOUNDGARDEN TO PLAY RARE SONGS ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

By: 6 January 2013 38 Comments

Soundgarden will be kicking off a North American tour to promote their latest album King Animal. Frontman Chris Cornell tells ABC News Radio that fans will be not just be hearing new & classic material: “We’re gonna probably gravitate towards new songs because we’re like that,” the singer tells ABC News Radio.  “We’re also gonna probably gravitate toward some really old, obscure songs that we haven’t played in 20 years, or ever, because we’re like that too.”

The first stop for Soundgarden’s North American tour begins at Terminal 5 in New York City on January 16th.

Wow, I could think of a few big handfuls of rare gems I’d kill to hear live. ‘She Likes Surprises’ would make my year if that happened…

They toyed with the ‘Little Joe’ riff at the Bowery Ballroom show in NYC in November of 2012, wouldn’t be surprised if that reaches the set

How about Soundgarden play some Pearl Jam songs and Audioslave songs? Just to show how diverse and talented Chris Cornell, Kim Thyaill, Ben Shepard and Matt Cameron can be. Those two rock bands alone have had a huge influence on the way Chris and Matt write songs and play songs live. Now that would be a nice change. In fact , I want to see Kim Thyaill pick up a sky blue Ibanez electric guitar, scribble some political words like Grunge Power and wear a cap with a red star on it and then I want Chris Cornell to start singing Cochese :) hahaha

Go and save yourself, take it out on meeeee
go and save yourselfff , take it out on meeee, heee :) whatcha think?

Good for the new 2013 Soundgarden retro tour?

Any kind of version of Birth Ritual would be amazing to hear. They played Flower and Head Down in 2011, it would be amazing if they played them again this tour.

Soundgarden or at least Chris Cornell owes the Audioslave fans who stood by his second band :( we deserve to hear at least a cover or two or 10 :) of all Audioslave classics like the following :

    Cochese
    Gasoline
    What You Are
    Like A Stone
    Show Me How To Live
Shadow Of The Sun ( NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH BLACK HOLE SUN ) ;)
    Your Time Has Come
    Be Yourself
    Dandelion
    Doesnt Remind Me
    The Original Fire
and many many more Audioslave rock songs and acoustic numbers

Soundgarden should really do something like that , its only right and its only fair since Chris was the one who broke up Audioslave :( im just speaking on behalf of all dedicated Audioslave fans who miss that band a lot, too bad Rage Against The Machine and Soundgarden couldnt go on tour together , then that would reunite the orignal members of Audioslave for good :) just like reuniting with Pearl Jam for Temple Of The Dog

  • Iso said:

Grungecaster1: No. There is simply no way in hell Soundgarden should cover Audioslave songs live. No way in hell. You have your chance to see them live. Soundgarden and Rage were both much better bands than Audioslave. Audioslave was a stop-gap measure that was ‘adequate’ for a time, but that time has now gone thankfully. We got Rage and Soundgarden back because of it. Their time is over man.

  • walkinBElieber said:

so which ones? Just name some. Or just play Hand of God. Hasn’t been done in 20. Blind Dogs, Kyle Petty – less than 20.

  • walkinBElieber said:

Nevermind Hand of God was last done in 94′ I think. So uh, Little Joe. there quota met

  • 12midnight said:

Are they going to add more dates soon?

  • JON said:

    MOOD FOR TROUBLE

    PLEASE!!!!!!

  • mitc said:

I’d be floored if they play something unreleased like Ocean Fronts but clearly in the minority. They did the vast majority of the best songs live already. Don’t hear too many folks clamoring for Power Trip or Entering.
They easily sub in Hands All Over which hasn’t been done often but played to death back in the day plus I Awake, Head Down and Big Dumb Sex which were done on select few dates so far. I think Limo Wreck was soundchecked in 2011 as an instrumental but this has not been confirmed.

Sweet I get to go see them I February awesome that they’re going to have some material we’ve never heard before.
