By: 7 January 2013 38 Comments

Amazon has released new information regarding the release of Mad Season’s Above reissue deluxe box set, set for release in April:

Above (Deluxe Edition) is a three-disc set comprised of two CDs and one DVD.

CD 1 features the original album + an unreleased acoustic instrumental titled “Interlude,” 3 new songs from the band’s unfinished second album with newly recorded vocals and lyrics by Mark Lanegan and a remixed version of the band’s John Lennon cover “I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier”

CD 2 features the full audio set from the bands historical performance at the Moore Theater in Seattle on April 29, 1995, remastered in stereo sound.

The DVD features the first official DVD release of Live at The Moore, remixed and remastered and newly edited by director Duncan Sharp. Also featured is a full concert of the bands performance from New Years Eve 1995 at RKCNDY in Seattle and both performances from Self-Pollution Radio, one newly edited.

**A full-color collector’s booklet features previously unseen performance photographs and an essay by Barret Martin reflecting on the lives of Staley and Saunders and the history of the band.**

Just in time for my birthday. Can’t f’ing wait!

Does anyone know whether or not Layne could be singing on the 3 songs from the “unfinished 2nd album?”

  • Ben said:

    @thefreewheelinmarkarm

I’m pretty certain that Layne did not go into the studio during the recording of the second album. Infact the rest of the band were going to continue making music under the name Disinformation with Mark as the new singer.

I’m really looking forward to this boxset. I’m still hoping we might get to hear the rest of the music that was going to be the second album one day. I don’t care if they are rough demos with no vocals – it would be great just to hear the music. However I’m pretty excited to hear the 3 tracks!!!

Very cool. I wish we could get all 15 tracks recorded for the 2nd album, but I’ll take what I can get.

  • Matt said:

I never buy reissues or Deluxe Edition’s of albums I already own, the only one I think I’ve ever bought is the PJ – Ten Deluxe Edition with the Unplugged DVD, but I will definitely be eagerly picking up, I’ll pre-order it as soon as I can :)

  • Lennart said:

I’m a bit scared by the term “remastered”, the original sounds perfect, but i will still buy it, if not for the DVD alone, that’s just killer, and the 3 extra songs are icing on the cake.

  • kingchaz said:

Sweet, sweet deal. When does it drop again?

Excuse not being informed, but what does RKCNDY stand for? Rock Candy?

  • blewharvest said:

Nice to see ‘Interlude’ getting a proper release. It’s pretty short, but very cool. Would have liked to see some of their Crocodile Cafe proformanaces though. Solid looking release.

” what does RKCNDY stand for? ”

Yep – rock candy. You know, great bands and things that go sniff sniff in the night.

I am very excited about this box set! It comes out on my birthday!!!

  • Jack Irons said:

“interlude” is a great diddy that should have made the first cut. It leaked out on a German master of the album back in the day. It was supposed to go between “Lifeless dead” & “I don’t know anything”, wonder why they didn’t put it in it’s proper place. Sounds great there. They just plopped it at the end with the extra tracks.

    EV is a clown!!

  • blewharvest said:

Interlude can also be found on early promos for the album – that’s where I found my copy. Shame it’s not back in it’s correct running order.

  • ALICE said:

    great news great band.

miss you layne. hurts every day.

  • BJRed said:

When is the Vinyl re-issue from Music on Vinyl coming out, been delayed for years. Not keen picking up a Record Store day one, if I miss out, I’ll have to buy one on ebay and inflated prices.

  • T said:

Can’t wait! I pre ordered my copy through pearl jam website! The New years performance is the one I can’t wait to see! Layne’s friend Johnny Bacolas released a snippet on youtube a while ago but they removed it! I’m guessing because the new release of the album and the performance.

  • Dennis said:

Pre-Order completed. Odd that you can buy it from Pearl Jam (and pay for shipping) and it’s still $5 less than Amazon (free shipping).
    Kudos to the PJ site.

  • ReverendMaynard said:

This looks like a really good package, very excited about this release.

  • Michael-David said:

I am totally stoked! Finally get to hear a live version of “Wake Up”. I remember ordering the VHS of the Moore show and kind of being disappointed it wasn’t included. I knew for sure they played it. Of course I am excited for the rest of it and I am glad they are honoring Layne and Baker in this way.

  • Alanis said:

This is very exciting news. They have it available for pre order on Amazon.com but not on Amazon UK, where are people who live in the UK, England supposed to get this from? Is this getting a UK release? Do you know if this is going to be available in stores world wide? Also is there any information on the region of the DVD?

  • Linda said:

I was right under Mike McCready literally at the stage for that show. We never knew it was videoed. I’m so excited about seeing the video! My then husband and his band were there standing right next to me. We met Layne in Tucson, before, too. Wow, the good old days!
