It is really upsetting they’re playing almost the same setlist night in and night out for over a year now. upsetting since their catalogue is so deep. Saw them three times over 4 months in 2012 and got same setlist every time. really a shame for bigtime fans.
^^Agree man. It’s like they’re only going through the motions and it’s a big shame since they have so many awesome songs.
Hmmm I saw them twice in 2012 and they didn’t play Soul to Squeeze at either show … would have liked to have seen it
There are never any real changes in the setlist. They switch up a few here and there on certain nights. At least they jam a lot in between the songs, so it’s still worth listening to the bootlegs just for that. No one plays bass like flea.
I saw RCHP in 2006 when they were touring the Stadium Arcadium album, they didn’t play Under the Bridge. I was pissed, everyone was like wtf?
remembering, and playing well, literally dozens and dozens of songs, is no easy feat!
they must have almost 100 just from 1999 til now….
Hey drew, Pearl Jam can do it?
I think it’s mainly Anthony’s fault, if I recall correctly he’s the one that decides the set-list. I’m sure flea and chad and josh would love to play a lot more old songs, but anhtony probably is too lazy to remember the lyrics.
You guys are all absolutely correct. Their jams are all amazing. Every night is varied with the jams. But Anthony leaves the stage during these jams! I love the outro jams (had amazing ones in Florida this year), but thats the end of the show for Anthony. He leaves the stage and the bands still on for 7 minutes without him.
I’ve been listening to them since early 90s, but this year was my first time finally seeing them. They were awesome, but some things stuck out and sorta disappointed me. For one, I had no idea Anthony was so bad at flubbing songs. He forgets lyrics all the time. The sum is greater than its parts but you cant help but feel bad for chad and flea (and even josh) who have to trudge through that. Messing up the lyrics to Scar Tissue? Really?! Monarchy was an awful opener – Look Around doesn’t translate live either. Maggie and Factory certainly do, I wished they would have gone more into Stadium on this tour (you have over 25 songs!)….so many great tracks on that album.
and yes, I must say – Pearl Jam does it best. One of my close friends is beyond obsessed and now I can see why: they vary it up every night, keep it fresh, and really appreciate their fans. Eddie and Co maintain a database for every city they tour with the songs they’ve ever played in an effort to always throw new stuff out to the diehards on each visit. no one else does that.
If RHCP is to avoid becoming just another legacy/heritage rock act (Pearl Jam certainly avoided it, and the Pumpkins are at least trying something different too), they need to should vary the shows on future tours.
can pj do it?
well, they sure try! we all know they have their moments of glitches but who cares!
2006 2nd night sf had ed completely miss the second verse of sometimes, the opening tune!! then they
bailed it and tore into a raging severed hand and another 6-7 full throttle songs!
kinda funny how the lyrics ed spaced were “seek my part……….”
i guess he was!
