So frigin awesome to see Fresh Tendrils and Head Down. Replace Halfway There with another oldie (or Attrition!) and it’s perfect!

Would’ve love to have seen it.

Nice! I don’t remember if I’ve heard Fresh Tendrils live! May have seen it on youtube or something at some point.

Interested to see what else they pull out for this tour.

  • Tim said:

Wow, great setlist. Really hoping they don’t change it up too much. I just finally got into Louder Than Love, and I’ve been playing Ugly Truth everyday. Burden in My Hand, Blow Up the Outside World, My Wave, etc. Can’t wait for the 29th in Chicago!

  • Alec said:

Great show and crowd. The pit for Jesus Christ Pose was a lotta fun.

  • MrMojoRisin93 said:

According to Chris this was the first time they played Dusty or Fresh Tendrils since the 90s… Those were two of the most exciting points of the night. Everyone went CRAZY for Fresh Tendrils. And just when I thought they were gonna skip Jesus Christ Pose, they whip it out as the closer. Could not have ended the night in a better way. Chris’s voice was incredible.

    A pretty good setlist, although:

    9. Live to Rise
    10. Halfway There
    11. Black Saturday

    Should have been replaced with:

    9. Nothing to Say
    10. Superunknown
    11. Blood on the Valley Floor

  • Yo said:

Keep Black Saturday, but nobody needs to hear Live to Rise ever again. Atleast live.

  • backdoorman said:

Fresh Tendrils, Let Me Drown, Just like Sucide and Superunknown are my fauvorite songs form the Superunknown album

  • Naomi said:

I can’t believe they played Fresh Tendrils. I don’t even know if they ever played that live before. Hopefully they play it on Saturday when I’m there!

  • Inmytree said:

Awesome setlist, glad Chris delivered on his promise of rare songs.

  • Eric Schiffman said:

Chris introduced Dusty as a song they haven’t played since 97. After that song he introduced Fresh Tendrils as another song they haven’t played from the same album. The crowd and Kim corrected him.

Hunted Down was dedicated to Jonathan Poneman who was in the crowd.

Chris sounded good but sounded like be was holding back a bit, maybe because it was the first night of the tour. Once again Ben looked like he was being bothered by having to be up there.

  • MJM said:

Am I the only one that liked “Live to Rise?”

  • jt said:

    @Eric Schiffman,

While it may seem like that to some, I actually make it a point to always be on the side that Ben is on (I get their really early to get a good spot). Ben’s stage presence is great, and he acts rather humorous at times too

  • Tim said:

Who’s the opening act on the tour?

  • Deviate said:

Pretty damn good set. But I agree with Spoonman110′s replacement track ideas for songs 9, 10 & 11.

  • Deviate said:

Oh, and Ugly Truth is an amazing song.

  • SuperSG said:

    Chris sounds great on JCP

  • Raj said:

Funny how so many posters rip SG for King Animal, yet praise them highly for their great set list selection. I guess live concerts can make up for supposed album shortcomings.

  • Inmytree said:

The King Animal bashers are delusional, its a great record. Grows on you like any SG record does. Soundgarden isn’t empty carbs that satisfies immediately and then you crash and lose interest. It takes some time to develop its flavor, which is meaty, complex, and very gratifying. Now I’m hungry.

  • Philip said:

THANK YOU ‘Inmytree’. That was one of the better descriptions laid out on this site’s forum about the real dynamics at work here, people. That’s correct, it IS a great record. The instantly catchy albums are, over the long term, ultimately the least satisfying or memorable. The slow-cookers, the growers, the ones that take a nice long time to fully digest and comprehend, those are the ones that have legs, that last, that keep getting better with time. Soundgarden’s repertoire is exactly that, and so is “King Animal”.

Hate the title? Fine. Good for you. No it doesn’t have the same play on words as their older works. But what’s in a name? Ultimately? It’s the least relevant aspect of taking in a new album. I listen to this album and keep discovering a deeper connection to the songs with each listen.

    loads of shitty songs

  • Pete said:

King Animal is a spectacular album.

Live to Rise is a better song than Attrition or Halfway There.

The more King Animal the better.

  • Pete said:

My Wave and Let Me Drown suck donkey balls.

  • Feast said:

May ye feast upon one another’s asshole, taint and scrotum, Pete & bradley. Feast. Then come back when you have something better to say. Or better, don’t.

  • Inmytree said:

Thanks Phillip. I have listed to Alice’s new song Hollow quite a few times (to name one example), and while I like it well enough, makes me appreciate King Animal all the more. A nice metal riff can only take one so far.
