SCOTT LUCAS TALKS ABOUT HIS TOP 5 GUILTY PLEASURE ALBUMS
Musicradar has a piece in which Local H’s Scott Lucas discusses his top 5 musical guilty pleasures. Here is a quote on him discussing the Killers debut album – Hot Fuss:
“I heard Somebody Told Me first, and I wasn’t that into it. Then I heard All These Things That I’ve Done, and I thought that it was really good. Smile Like You Mean It is amazing. Pretty soon, I got hooked. Listen to side one – there’s hit after hit and it just keeps going. Mr. Brightside is terrific, too.
In addition to “Hot Fuss” by the Killers Lucas also lists “Hi Infidenlity” by REO Speedwagon, “In The Eye of the Storm” by Roger Hodgson, “Escape by Journey” and ABBA’s “Arrival” as his favorite guilty pleasure albums.

We all have guilty pleasures, but I don’t think Hot Fuss is anything that should make you feel guilty. A good album is a good album no matter who the artist is. The Killers may not have had a great album since, but Hot Fuss is one of the better albums I’ve heard in the past 10 years.
I disagree. They (The Killers) are completely unpredictable when it comes to their sound on each album. They are diverse and that’s not only a rare thing nowadays but it’s refreshing. Plus I love their songs. Sure some songs your typical radio fluff (Human) but then you get much deeper songs out of them such as A Dustland Fairytale & Be Still. Plus I disagree with Scott on Sam’s Town. I loved the Springsteen-like edge on that album. Songs like “When We Were Young” still stand out to this day as one of the better tracks from a modern band.
We might not ever cover the Killers here but that doesn’t change the fact that they are quite a talented group. Beats the fuck out of the likes of Seether, Nickelback…etc.
Also GoodMotorFinger if you like Hot Fuss I recommend listening to Day and Age. It’s in the same style as Hot Fuss.
Yeah, but he’s a fuckin Mormon.
Yeah totally unpredictable if you’ve never heard 80s Springsteen & U2
Eh I don’t look at political beliefs when I listen to music. Also I don’t consider their sound a “ripoff” of Springsteen and U2 as much as it is an influence and homage. There is a lot of influences when it comes to Brandon Flowers and the Killers including Duran Duran. (And Duran Duran/Springsteen are polar opposites on the musical spectrum.)
On their new album (Battle Born) you can hear even some country and heartland-esque rock influenced in as well. When I listen to Battle Born the first thing that comes to mind is Mellencamp.
The country element though is more present in Flowers’ solo effort “Flamingo.”
And for those that really like Hot Fuss listen to “Miss Atomic Bomb” it’s actually a continuation of one of that albums’ biggest hits – Mr. Brightside.
what the hell? You guys listen to Mormon rock? WEEEEAKKKKKKK…
I can’t respect an artist if they subscribe to bat shit crazy LDS theories.
Can you cover Motorhead – or at least Lemmy?
I think this site should cover the Killers. With the “grunge” name soon to be history, I think they fit into what the site wants to become.
