SOUNDGARDEN, SMASHING PUMPKINS & ALICE IN CHAINS TO PERFORM AT ROCK ON THE RANGE FESTIVAL

By: 23 January 2013 28 Comments

Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, and Alice In Chains have been announced for the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio. The festival will take place May 17th-May 19th. Korn, Bush, Stone Sour, and Cheap Trick will also be playing. Tickets go on sale February 1st. The Smashing Pumpkins will headline Saturday according to their Twitter, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains haven’t revealed what day they’ll be playing yet. I’m pretty sure Soundgarden won’t perform before the Pumpkins though on Saturday. It’ll be interesting to see if Billy Corgan or Chris Cornell take any pot shots at each other during their performances, since Billy has been feuding with Soundgarden since last year.

I don’t see anything wrong with this story at all. Thanks for posting it! Road trip?!!
Seriously, if it was 1994 it would be just another day, but these bands all in one place in 2013 is amazing! 2013 has got to be one of the best years for music since the 90′s. Can’t wait for new QOTSA, Tool, PJ.. am I missing any?

  • McShpoochen said:

Yes. No way Tool’s album will come out this year. Maybe 2015, knowing how much of a douchebag Maynard is.

  • Patrick said:

How awesome would it be if it was all an act, and Chris and Billy made guess appearances with each others bands?

  • SuperSG said:

    ^^ THAT would be interesting!

Soundgarden won’t be performing on that Saturday because they’re already booked for the MMRBQ in NJ that day.

Awesome, lucky folks in Columbus Ohio. Regardless of the feud, anyone who is fan of 90′s music will have a great time.

    Off topic question:

How did Pearl Jam’s Ten sell more than Nirvana’s Nevermind? I like Pearl Jam, and love grunge and all, but I always believed Nirvana was the most popular of all the grunge bands. So how did Ten sell more than Nevermind and go 13x Platinum while Nevermind only went 10x Platinum???

  • NickG said:

    Haha, ONLY 10x platinum

This sounds like a lot of fun. I need to go back to Ohio but probably not then. I want to go see the band Family, too, in on Feb. 2 I think it is in England, but that will only be in my dreams.

  • Scott McLean said:

I’m listening to Good News Bad News by Family (band) now on YouTube, so I’d advise everyone to check that out.

Soundgarden are “great musicians, they should make new music, and hopefully they’ll make great albums, because we need artists to make great albums and great music in this day and age of the robots and the posers and, you know, the ‘faux hawk’ bands.” -Billy Corgan, September 2012

  • Alternadude said:

Billy loves Soundgarden. Since the 80′s he’s been saying they Were awesome. And we all know now AIC is one of his favorite band ever. Let’s Forget about the “feud” shall we?
    Thanks versus.

Soundgarden and AIC are both playing in Camden, NJ on Saturday the 18th.

  • Fuzzmo said:

@Butthead Its because Pearl Jam had a much more mainstream sound that reached broader lamer audiences.

This is indeed the best line-up I have ever seen.

[...] I’m surprised no one is talking about this but all three bands are playing together. If this has already been brought up close this thread. http://grungereport.net/?p=20742 [...]

They are doing another festival announced today in the States. It makes sense to do a short package tour like AIC/Mastodon in 2010. They split the setlists with hits I suppose. Not too keen on the idea but you can’t be real creative with dual headliners.
