MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN SAYS TOOL WILL NOT RELEASE A NEW ALBUM THIS YEAR
In a new interview with Furturo 88.9FM, Maynard James Keenan revealed that Tool will not release a new album this year, “No new disc. Not this year.” When the interviewer followed up asking if there are any plans for a new album, Maynard said, “I have not written any songs. So no, there is nothing.” Keep in mind these answers are translated, but Maynard’s quotes don’t seem too positive. The other three members of Tool have been working on the music for a new Tool album since last year, but Keenan has yet to join them and has had little to say about Tool in recent interviews. Tool’s last album 10,000 Days was released in 2006.
Huge bummer but can’t say I’m shocked, really.

This is by far the worst news I’ve encountered this year. I was stoked for this year in music…

New AIC album coming and a US tour, Soundgarden US tour, Foo Fighters taking a hiatus (good news to me), new QOTSA and I’m assuming a US tour to follow, I heard from a credible source that Billy Corgan will STFU at least once per month, new Pearl Jam (maybe it’ll be their last, that’d be great news), new Mad Season material slated for release, new Puscifer (any Maynard is good Maynard), Atoms For Peace (with Thom Yorke and Flea), new Clutch, new Stone Sour, BLACK SABBATH (??!), AND NEW FUCKIN’ TOOL!
COME ON MAYNARD WHATS WITH THE COP-OUT?!
Eventually the fans will get to you just like we all did with Soundgarden. I will throw a tantrum 10,000 Days long if I have to, you don’t even know right now.

Everyone just relax for god’s sake. First of all this was a foreign language translation. Secondly, Maynard’s track record has ALWAYS been to throw off the scent, reveal nothing, give nothing away until it is actually time… The other members are hard at work, have been a long time, them and those closest to the band say “a new album this year”.
Remember too that Maynard writes no music, only lyrics. Maybe he has not developed any Tool lyrics YET, but 2013 is still very early, it is only February… just relax and have a bit of faith here. I BEG YOU ALL…
I hope he is saying this to shut everyone up about it, but I’m sure it is true. This is definitely not the news I wanted on a Monday morning.

I bet if people stop asking about the new Tool album, he might bite. But right now with the new Puscifer coming out, if anyone interviews him of course this would be the typical reaction if they mutter the word “tool”.
People. Yes it’s been a long ass time but the whole “when is the new tool album coming?/fuck you maynard/stop with the Puscifer/wine” nonsense will not make him get Tool going sooner.

Terrible news. Sadly, this points more to the direction i’ve been thinking for awhile….Maynard just doesn’t have the same interest or passion for Tool anymore. If this album ever gets completed, i believe it will be the last one.

This shouldn’t surprise anybody. It’s been seven years since 10KD and he still hasn’t written anything Tool-wise. Probably won’t see a new Tool record until 2016.
Tool are a top-notch band but I can’t really rally behind an entity that takes forever to release new music. They’re just kind of out there, floating around in the stratosphere to me. When they release new music, I eventually check it out. But I don’t sit on pins and needles waiting it out year after year like a lot of their fans do.
A lot of the same people complaining about the delay will also be the ones posting that the (eventual) new tool cd “doesn’t sound like Tool” or isn’t “enough like opiate/aenema/lateralus”. Hard to make anybody happy sometimes. That being said, I do hope for something by ’14 … But no point in dwelling on it too much
If this is true, then the band needs to dump this jackoff & get a frontman that wants to make some music.
I wish everybody would just calm down. Maynard is a very reclusive and private guy to begin with, so it is no surprise to me at all that he seems to be very reluctant when it comes to discussing any new Tool recordings. I am quite sure he is very busy with having to run a couple vineyards as well as trying to juggle three bands in the process. We tend to forget that the artists we all love so much have lives outside of music that sometimes takes over for a while. I would just give Maynard some more time. I think he will still make another album or two with Tool before maybe calling it a day. Good things come to those who wait.

Tool has been around since the early 90′s and have only released 5 albums. They’ve always been slow as hell. But hey My Bloody Valentine just released their first new album in 21 years so anything can happen this year!
