TRENT REZNOR AND DR. DRE PLAN SUMMER LAUNCH FOR BEATS SERVICE
The fruits of the collaborative labor between Trent Reznor and Dr. Dre, called the Beats Electronics streaming service, now has a summer launch date. Jimmy Iovine, the chairperson for Interscope Geffen A&M and the Beats’ cofounder, dropped the date at a conference, where he talked more about the service.
“We are making tons and tons of curated lists,” he said. “If you go the gym, we’ll know where you are. So when you wake up in the morning, there will be a list waiting for you.”
These custom playlists are apparently quite popular; already 100 people are eager to create custom playlists. According to Iovine, the selectors of these playlists won’t be celebrities, but rather professionals. Reznor will be overseeing the entire playlist curation process as Beats’ chief creative officer.
Iovine notes that the service will cost about “$10 a month or whatever it is”, which is a resonable price. Source
Am I understanding this right? People are going to pay $10 a month for “professionals” to create playlists of music for them? Is there something I’m missing?
No its just a cash grab
It’s not just the playlists, I guess you are also paying for listening to the music, like in spotify and other music services.
This could be a great service for those who don’t mind to pay for digital music, if you just download your music from torrents or blogs with direct links, then you obviouly won’t be interested in any of this.
I download everything for “free” and if I like a certain album then I buy the cd, so I’m not interested on this or spotify, but there are people who actually pay for this kind of service, the same way there are people paying for netflix or other services to watch movies and shows while I just download everything for free and mabe buy a bluray if I am a fan o the movie/show.

I’d like to download more of Eddie Vedder’s radio show… I don’t have Sirius/XM. And Rollins show can be downloaded but one show at a time (I think there is a site where you have to click and go back and forth etc. somewhere).

So rather than use spotify, for free, no cost to yourself, which at least pays something to the artist (admittedly a pittance) you consider it a better option to steal from them?

I do the same thing Streaming Service does.
The reason being that I want to know my money is going towards a product I’m going to enjoy, not some piece of plastic or vinyl with a couple good songs and a bunch of shitty nonsense cluttering up the other 40 minutes of material.
If I like it, I buy it. If I don’t like it, I delete it and get rid of it. It’s no worse than bootlegging 70′s style on a cassette tape or listening to a record for free at a listening station in a music store.
