LISTEN TO NEW MAD SEASON SONG “LOCOMOTIVE”

By: 18 February 2013 42 Comments

Click here to listen to Mad Season’s new song “Locomotive.” The song features Mark Lanegan on lead vocals, standing in for the late Layne Staley. This is one of the three new tracks from Mad Season’s new Above reissue, the music originates from the late 90′s when Mad Season attempted to record a second album but Layne Staley’s drug addiction prevented him from being able to participate. Bassist John Baker Saunders died in 1999, but was able to record bass parts before his death (it’s not know how extensive the recording sessions were). Staley died in 2002.

Bad fucking ass……Lanegan is such a beast. McCready and Martin pretty wicked on here too. So glad they decided to release these tunes with new vox.

    Pretty good stuff.

In his prime, Layne would have been great on this. So sad. F–k you heroin.

So are they going to release a new album with Mark on lead vocals or is it just these three tracks?

  • Austin said:

I hope they record a new album after the deluxe Above drops. I’d love to see them do that.

Great song!!!, it rocks!!! I don’t understand why people argue all the time ‘Layne was Mad Season’, ‘without Layne it was Disinformation’, you have to understand that Baker, Mike and Barrett wanted to continue as Mad Season and they nearly regrouped with Mark Lanegan in the late 90′s, they titled that new lineup Disinformation, but once Baker died in 1999, that Disinformation project never happened. So as these songs where from 3 members of Mad Season, there are no doubt they are Mad Season!,all the instrumental songs they worked together were shelved for 14 years!.
Layne was unfortunately unavailable so if Mark Lanegan added his voice, I think is the perfect fit for this unfinished project, remember he sang in two other songs, so it continued to be Mad Season. I hope they release the other 10 songs they recorded on that unfinished 2nd Album. I hope Mike Could play like this in the new Pearl Jam record.

Pearl Jam should add this to their setlist. Eddie would do the vocals justice – his voice suits it. McCready is an absolute beast on this song.

pfftt… most of the best artists known to exist are/were carrying pain in their back pocket from one thing or another. The size of Layne’s pain only added to the emotion behind his voice. Sure, it’s a tragic story, but the tragedy only makes the story better.

Nirvana and AIC would be just as boring as Pearl Jam had they remained here, making music over the past 2 decades.

Anyway… great song. Vocals are fucking monstrous

Woah :o This exceeded all my expectations!
    I love it!!!

  • Spoonman said:

    anyway to download it yet?

Mark Lanegan is a better vocalist than Stayley. I like AIC, don’t get me wrong, but Lanegan is the best singer out of them all.

    The MAD Season is back…..

  • Jeanne said:

LOVE IT!! Although I am a huge Layne fan, Mark L definitely fits right in, I mean afterall, he was around for part 1 of Mad Season. Sounds very MadSeason-y- if that is even a word. Really enjoy it and cannot wait for the new album. Mark L and Layne were such a pefect harmony in Above, so not hearing Layne singing on this is a bit weird, but still good.

cool. sounds very much like a song by The Cult/Ian Astbury with a McCready solo.

  • Shadows Collide with People said:

Sounds great! Great drumming by Barret Martin. Lanegan is a very good vocalist when he sticks to what he does best which is rough around the edges bluesy rock. I just love this track. McCready guitar work is nothing short of spectacular. FUCKING RIGHTS!!!!!
