Labeling Kid A, Amnesiac and King of Limbs “misses” reveal more about your personal tastes than the quality of Radiohead’s output. It seems that you are more in to traditional song structures and hooks than experimentation — nothing wrong with that of course but Kid A, Amnesiac and King of Limbs are phenomenal albums, just in different ways than the ones labeled as “hits”. Excluding Pablo Honey (which was just a young band trying to find their way) the only album I would potentially call a “miss” would be Hail to the Thief – by far their least consistent album and seemed more like a b-sides compilation than a true album (by Radiohead standards)
Sounds like another Radiohead album, @Kirill to me Radiohead have ditched the guitar sound years ago. Creep almost broke up the band. I think their best songs are ‘Creep’, ‘My Iron Lung’, ‘You’, ‘Just’, ‘Paranoid Android’. However, I do still like ‘Street Spirit’ ‘High & Dry’, ‘Karma Police’ ‘Optimistic’, ‘Hail to the Thief’.
Even Silverchair abandon the guitar sound after two albums, the last record they made was a pop/rock record and I think they broke up because Daniel Johns started moving into the electro side of things and the other members wanted to go back to rock.
The real challenge is who can create another ‘Creep’, ‘Loser’, ‘Low’.
As soon as a band releases that type of a song that gets really popular, they distance themselves from it. Probably because they get sick of playing it and don’t want to remembered as a one hit wonder.
Everyone has a personal taste, but really Kid A sounds nothing like previous Radiohead outputs. There are 4 songs that I really enjoy listening to on that album, but the rest…..
You see, for me when Radiohead plays guitars, bass, and real drums they create passionate unique music that sticks in my head for years, but when its all electronic beats and moaning thru synths it really sounds like fillers to me.
I think its a major problem with all European bands, especially from England. They all start out great, use same song structure almost all sound the same (probably cas they use the same producers) Radiohead, Muse, Radiohead, Blur — just to name the few and then all of the sudden, they go electronic.
So now the question, why should I follow and like every output. I dont like to go thru metamorphoses from one genre to another. Call me boring or whatever, but Deftones have released albums different from one another but at the same time they stick to their genre and formula that made them successful in the first place.
