DAVE GROHL ON REUNITING WITH NIRVANA BANDMATE KRIST NOVOSELIC: “WE SURVIVED”
Dave Grohl discussed performing again with Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic in a new interview with SPIN, “It’s hard not to remember and reminisce,” he tells SPIN. “You look up and smile, like, ‘Oh my God, first of all, we survived, but also we’re still playing.’ It’s like getting back together with an old girlfriend, but minus the drama. It’s fucking great.”
Surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear made their first high profile performances together in their old Nirvana roles since 1994 in December with Paul McCartney at the 12-12-12 benefit show and on Saturday Night Live, performing the new track “Cut Me Some Slack” from the Sound City soundtrack. The trio have also performed with Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor at recent Sound City Players shows.
Krist Novoselic is one of the nicest and most humble guys you could meet. It was great to see these guys playing together in public again.
“We survived”? Meaning you didn’t shoot your head with a gunblast?
@WTF? not in the literal sense. More like in the sense that they weren’t seriously addicted to drugs or had major substance abuse problems. Anthony Kiedis survived his heavy drug addiction, John Frusciante was near death before being saved by the rest of RHCP
Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Bradley Nowell, Shannon Hoon, etc. sadly didn’t make it.
i love all the NIRVANA stuff. its just great. they are both great musicians and always will be. i’m so glad that NIRVANA had their NIRVANA reunion. NIRVANA has been doing so well. looking forward to more NIRVANA.
Kurt’s up here in heaven, too. He said he did it because Courtney is a psycho.

Krist and Dave should have played together much sooner. In my mind, Kurt Cobain is a legend. The reality is Kurt didnt die of cancer like Bob Marley or a drug overdose like Andy or Layne. He blew his brains out.
^Don’t be ignorant. The drug abuse of Andy and Layne was just a slower suicide.

Using drugs on a regular basis and getting high and chasing that euphoria was what got them using and using on a regular basis.
Andy died before he was using it in the ill manner Layne was and that was a very advanced stage of his use slash addiction.

Yes. Using drugs that were deteriorating their health and could kill them any time they used. They were committing suicide because of this addiction.

What are you talking about? They both overdosed. Doesn’t matter who was more addicted or what manner it was being used in, we’re talking about a drug that can kill a person any time it is used. And Andy had just been in rehab a few months before his death so it’s fair to say he was also in an “advanced stage” of addiction.
i think it would have been cool if they played some nirvana with paul, he would have actually sounded pretty good. .

Andy was still functional in what you call his ‘advanced’ stage whereas Layne, when he surpassed Andy in the drugs – Layne stopped being functional.
So I think it’s fair to say at this stage of the conversation I have established that Kurt commit suicide with a gun and Andy/Layne used drugs to get high not for a ‘slow suicide’ as you said.
Who’s Kurt Cobain ??? I keep swing his name pop up everywhere …
