WHAT’S NEXT FOR FORMER STONE TEMPLE PILOTS FRONTMAN SCOTT WEILAND?

By: 28 February 2013 21 Comments

After months of speculation, dating back to September when we originally reported the rumors, Stone Temple Pilots unceremoniously fired frontman Scott Weiland yesterday. Weiland last year unsuccessfully campaigned to reunite Velvet Revolver, but Slash shot down the possibility by saying he will never be in a band with Weiland again and saying that Weiland is “out of his mind.”  Weiland has a solo career with his solo group the Wildabouts and a tour coming up, but what else can he do for money? Weiland has revealed in interviews with Howard Stern that he needs to make a lot of money due to past divorces, so what should Weiland do now after his fall outs with STP and Velvet Revolver to keep rolling in the dough?

1. Reincarnate Bing Crosby for a Christmas Carols Duet Tour

2. Form a supergroup with former Smashing Pumpkins members James Iha, D’arcy Wretzky, and Jimmy Chamberlin

3. Wrestle for Billy Corgan’s Resistance Pro Wrestling and become Resistance Pro Heavyweight Champion

4. Become Nirvana’s new frontman! Weiland can make bank touring with Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear

5. Successfully sue Stone Temple Pilots to gain rights to the name and use it for his solo band (Axl style)

6. Steal Billy Corgan’s Walter E. Smithe sponsorship deal

7. New Reality Show – Scott Weiland, Reality Sucks

8. Hop on the Mark McGrath and Friends Cruise with Sugar Ray, Everclear, Ed Rolland of Collective Soul, and Ed Kowalczyk of Live

9. Scott Weiland: Male Gigolo

Also, fear not Stone Temple Pilots! GrungeReport.net made a list in December of top candidates to replace Scott Weiland when rumors originally came out regarding the firing.

Who in the fucking hell would let him take Kurt’s place?

i don’t like Scott or STP but I do feel sorry for him and wish him the best

Oh please become a gigilo…..at least short term! Now I need to come up with an excuse to tell my husband when he finds that I have ‘bought Scott!’

Blind melon needs a singer, though if his new solo album is in the same vein as his song on the avengers soundtrack he’ll do fine.

  • ShaneC said:

He won’t make money. Not as a solo artist.

Stop doing stupid columns like this…same with that magic Mike guy, he’s an idiot…love the site (sometimes) but seriously grow up…you guys talk about eating Taylor whoevers pu$$y…no artist will take you and your site seriously… Brett email me, I can write you articles and get news that won’t be immature and just plain old stupid. I’m the one that suggested to you 2 years ago to cover other bands, such as Janes Addiction…anyways that’s my rant and had to say something

I have said that an Axl Rose Reality show would be a smash hit for years….Maybe watching Scott Wieland self-destruct would work too? Unstable rock stars who have feuads make for good entertainment.

    Ok STPCHUCK, dude… Lighten Up.
It’s called humor – and some of us like it. Kind of breaks up the boring moments in a work day when you’re on a break…
Hey! He can deal heroin. Aheh
Ok, yeah – that wasn’t funny at all.
    Peace

Whatever happened to his clothing line? He could do another Arch Angel auction like he did a few years ago and sell his belongings.

I only hope Scott don’t choose to go to the Celebrity Rehab.

STPCHUCK is a loser. I think this is great keep up the humor.

He should clean up once and for all, followed by intense efforts to make amends in hopes of one day again front one of the greatest American rock n’ roll bands that has ever existed.

  • ejsme said:

I think it’s actually most likely he’ll do that cruise kind of thing to make money.

Chuck, STP and Weiland have turned themselves into a joke with this firing/break up and how poorly it has been handled on both ends and the constant lying. STP are one of my favorite bands of all time but the only thing you can do with this debacle is laugh about it.

Scott Weiland should tour with the Doors, Take over as front man for Alice In Chains, or front Mad Season, if they want to put out a full new album & a launch new tour.

  • BillyL said:

Brett, They fired Weiland after he told them he didn’t want to tour, tells the media they were the ones who didn’t want to tour and then promptly announces his own tour. I’d fire him too.

  • Brett Buchanan (author) said:

    BillyL,

I don’t blame them for wanting to be done with Scott at all. He’s borderline delusional in the new Rolling Stone interview, or he’s just constantly lying. I just think they could have announced it better.

  • BillyL said:

I agree that the announcement could have been done a little differently. Especially in terms of letting the fans know what the deal truly is. Maybe they have no idea where to go from here, and then I could kind of understand it. Maybe firing Weiland instead of them breaking up/leaving the band is just a way of making sure the name stays unused (so Scott doesn’t go all Axl Rose on them). I don’t know. I do agree that a little bit more information would have been nice. Maybe it’s coming…

  • ejsme said:

@drfuco – Man, him singing for Mad Season actually sounds good!

  • Monster Robert said:

I agree the announcement could been done more better and in detailed.

  • Raj said:

He should only join other musicians if he’s going to form another band and play songs under a different name. Joining the Nirvana guys would not be a bad thing, just don’t call it Nirvana or play any Nirvana tunes. Well maybe they can do covers but would Dave play a Nirvana song? He’s always vowed those were Kurt songs and he would never play them but then again he would be in the familiar position of drums. Nirvana and STP tunes would make for a cool show.
