SCOTT WEILAND PRAISES PRESIDENT OBAMA, ADMITS HE STILL DRINKS & RANTS ABOUT GRUNGE

By: 12 March 2013 32 Comments

Possible Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland went on a long rant at his solo show last night in Washington DC. Numerous fans on Twitter claimed Weiland was drunk during his performance. chloesdad said on the BelowEmpty.com forums, “I’ve seen more STP/VR/Scott solo then I can count and this was by far the most painful show I’ve ever been to and that includes a show in which he didn’t even show up (Tampa 2008).”

Weiland’s rant included his thoughts on President Obama, “I think we have an amazing President, he’s just amazing.” He also said, “You’re thinking Scott Weiland is on drugs again…no that was 11 years ago, but I still drink…” This led into a bizarre rant about blogs, which included him asking what a blog was and proclaiming “Peter Jennings is awesome.”

Weiland also discussed Grunge, “People called it Grunge, but it wasn’t Grunge…it was going on everywhere.” Weiland seemed to be talking about how Seattle gets the most attention when it comes to the Grunge era. chloesdad said on BelowEmpty.com regarding Weiland’s rants, “Definitely went on rants that made little to no sense.”

GrungeReport.net, as always, is rooting for Scott to get sober and live a long and happy life. We’d rather be reporting stories on kick ass Scott Weiland/Stone Temple Pilots shows than this type of stuff.

I’m seriously worried about Scott…I think the dude is going insane. It sucks to read this stuff because I like him, I think deep down he’s a good guy and of course makes good music. But damn man, lay off the booze and get it together. You’re in your mid 40′s for Christ’s sake.

Glad I didn’t get a ticket to his show in Cleveland.

Well, Peter Jennings was one of the greatest anchors of all time.

What is this “possible stp singer” garbage? What does that even mean?

  • Edward R. Murrow said:

Does this have to do with the whole “you can’t fire me” bullshit from Weiland? Why are you giving this guy any credibility?

He used to sing for STP, and then he was fired. Terminated means the same thing in case anyone was wondering. Just because STP won’t bother replacing him and continuing under the STP name doesn’t mean he wasn’t fired.

it seemed more like 5min, but that’s still long winded. A heckler next to me interuped him and Scott gave him the mic to which the man started yelling “I am smelling like a rose…” And the entire house joined in and finished the lyric. When they finished Scott took the miic back and said “that was horrible!” After the laugh he went back to singing.

What?! Weiland was drunk at a show??

    Say it ain’t so, Joe…

Man, oh, man. What can one say that hasn’t already been said about Scott and these types of situations? He keeps repeating that he hasn’t done dope in years, as if abusing alcohol is any better? Alcohol has killed some of rock n’ roll’s most talented musicians.

Get help. Get rid of your enabling yes-men. Be a man. Suck it up. Take responsibility. Be healthy. Be great again.

    Find ‘Dave Coutts’!

    Interview ‘Dave Coutts’

I loved the Talk Show record – the band was on fire
and DC really gets a bad wrap – I thought he was a great frontman.

This is very sad he is obviously a hopeless alcoholic. I hope that he can get things straightened out.

Well I can put up with him cancelling a show in the great white north on me last year after I talked my wife into going (she hates all grunge with the exception of Nirvana). Bought a plane ticket and paid for a rental car and hotel room (would it kill STP to come to Colorado)??? I have put up with seeing 11 shows ranging from their jaw dropping performance at Red Rocks to an okay show at the small belly up bar in Aspen, CO where I puked all over myself and the band made fun of me (when they show up two hours late the fireball shots tend to catch up to you). I have bought more t-shirts hoddies and posters then I can count. I have a giant 5 foot vinyl poster of the band in my office along with their first 4 albums all signed and behind glass. I am even seeing the show in PA this Thursday (let me know if anyone else is love to grab a drink before the show). However Scott Weiland praising Obama is so toolish, I remember when these artists when anti-establishment, anti big government, and truly the voice of my generation (I am 34). Now they play shows for a guy that is still fighting 2 wars with drones and still keeping people in illegal prisons in Cuba. WTF is happing to my world!! Hell to be honest I will still follow STP it’s like an abusive relationship I can’t get out of.

    Rant over… for now

Scott just gets weirder and weirder.

I wish music was the only thing we heard from him.

Drunk on stage to me is no big deal as long as you can still deliver and as long as someone is keeping an eye on him. Josh Homme is quite often drunk but he tends to just be very happy onstage when he is and encourages everyone to grab a partner and dance (in between shredding any given song to all it’s glory).

I love Scott’s work, and honestly if your band just kicked you out, took your site down, etc. you’d probably throw a few back and want to talk. I want to do that but I talk vicariously through this site about it because you’re all the only ones who care. I’m glad this site is here.

I hope this situation gets reconciled. I still don’t understand how they could fire him at all.

You’re abusing yourself and saying bullshit.

PS: Townshend used to try to communicate to his audience (ranting it was called), he eventually gave up. People WISH that Townshend would speak now. Bono used to be very verbally interactive with crowds as well, it was great prior to 1993. But then again, I’m one who goes to see Henry Rollins speak for 2 to 3 hrs at a time every time he comes through so I don’t mind when musicians I appreciate stop and speak as long as it is not hate-fueled.

I can’t even believe I was once such a huge fan of this clown.. He was at one point my favorite musician ever. He’s such an utter embarrassment now, & you couldn’t pay me to goto his sad excuse for a Live show. It’s amazing anyone could still support him he’s so bad live anymore … & it seems my sentiment is in line with the majority as he can’t even sell out these wanna be Roadhouse, Mechanical Bull having Pool Hall’s in these 1 stop Light town’s he’s been reduced to playing.

He sounds like my senile grandpa. I can see him in five years wandering the streets hammered drunk in that cowboy hat yelling at random people, “I WAS IN STONE TEMPLE PILOTS!”

This is really sad for those of us who are STP and or/Scott fans – he needs to get off the road and into rehab or his singing career may be over for good.
It’s as if he’s delusional or really depressed and out of touch with reality, and he doesn’t seem aware of it at all or he simply doesn’t care.

Hope he gets better and returns to what he’s really capable of musically.

I’m a huge fan of his past solo work, especially 12 Bar Blues, so I believe he was the major creative influence of STP overall.

Scott Weiland is a real bitch , he should of just stayed off the alcohol and get back to a normal life of performing with one of the best rock bands in the world ever :)

Why ruin a good thing Scott? :(

Come on, if Scott Weiland could clean up his life with or without drug/alcohol/behavioral rehab, both Stone Temple Pilots or Vevlet Revolver could of done a lot more great albums and toured the whole world and make lots of money :D and make more people happy in these stressful times :(

Why did Scott Weiland have to fuck up rock n roll in 2013??

Because the world didn’t blow up on 12/21/12.

I love Weiland/STP. While I found Talk Show/Army of Anyone to be alright I found Scott’s solo work to be amazing. Which is why it really irritates me that he is just self-medicating with alcohol and pills. Now would be a time to pen some wonderful songs, with his firing, upcoming marriage, and daily struggles and criticisms. However, instead of doing that he is just getting plastered every night digging a deeper hole. Everytime grungereport uploads a story on him I think of the chorus to Sentimental Halos from Happy in Galoshes and really hope he just pulls through
