PHOTOS FROM MIKE STARR’S MEMORIAL YESTERDAY IN SEATTLE
The above photos are from ERIKA SCHULTZ / THE SEATTLE TIMES, click here to view more. Mike’s sister Melinda said “some” of Mike’s former Alice In Chains bandmates would attend the memorial on early Sunday. I haven’t been able to find a picture of Jerry Cantrell or Sean Kinney at the memorial yet.

100 bucks says “former bandmates” means nothing more than the cover band guys he’s played with since ’93.
It sucks the path he took. I seriously could have seen him taking the stage with AIC in the next few years had he cleaned up his act. But he didn’t. And now he will live on as the 2nd AIC member to die of his addiction.
I hope Sean and Jerry never share the same fate.
What’s eating you today Joe?
Why didn’t Sean and Jerry show up? Did they even go to the private funeral?
I don’t think there was a private funeral yet (I could be wrong but my understanding is that the private and public funeral will be when the body is released by the Medical Examiner). Anyway, it would have been nice to seem them there spending time with the fans. Afterall, Mike WAS a founding member of AIC.
Jerry and Sean didn’t show up to Mike Starr’s memorial….is it possibly guilt.
Some of you belong on the TMZ forums…
Anyway, I was there. My girlfriend and I were walking back from grabbing a coffee and we ran into this guy. He asked me where the fountain was and I showed him. He then asked me if we were going to the memorial. After I said yes, he introduced himself as Mike’s brother-in-law, Chris. He said they had a private gathering with the family and friends which consisted of a slideshow, speeches, and the like. He said the whole band showed up, and
“Despite all the drama, even in the middle of all that shit, Mike loved ‘em man. He really did. I’m glad they showed up, man.”
Then he started choking up and walked away. It was a pretty low-key affair, lots of people though. Chris gave me some guitar picks and started throwing out those leaflets you see at the top.
So yes, the band did show up. They’re just celebrities without security, so they’re not going to go to a public place where anyone can show up unscreened.
I have many pics of the memorial, Brett. If you would like to share them, let me know.
unreal.. i thought mike was doin much better since celeb rehab. got to know him through the show some. my empathy regardless of not having same problems have been over whelming just trying to understand the pain him and layne delt with. it’s just so tragic that so much talent of 2 unique people had to give way way to early. just started to get into aic more than ever these days. sad stuff.
That’s how we keep the memory of Mike and Layne alive. The appreciation of their contributions and their music. God bless them both. It has been really hard on me…the past 2 weeks. I really thought Mike was going to beat it, this time.
Jerry and Sean were most certainly at the memorial – the private indoor portion of it. Jerry spoke. It was a sad occassion. At the end of the initial service the bagpiper led everyone out to the fountain, which is when I saw Jerry duck out. It has to be tough. RIP Mike and Layne.
this was a beautiful & very loving memorial.
I think Mike would of been proud.
I was honored to be there.
RIP MIKE
