JASON KERTSON RELEASES ORIGINAL SONG “SCREAM”

By: 7 September 2011 19 Comments

14-year old Jason Kertson, who has gone viral with some great Grunge covers on YouTube, has released an original song called “Scream” (no, not a cover of the Chris Cornell song). Kertson performed Alice In Chains covers at last year’s Layne Staley Tribute Show in Seattle.

Sadly, it sounds post-grungey at some parts but the little riffs are sick. Impressive for his age, his other Shallow Ground song is sicker

Hes a good metal guitar player for his age but ehh vocals kinda blahh song kinda blahh. Not grunge.

what the hell does this wanker have to do with Grunge?

  • Rick said:

i get why it’s grunge-related, in that he’s successfully been able to capitalize on the the current early 90s nostalgia going around. and he’s pretty talented for his age. but… yeah, NOT grunge.

generic alt-metal is more like it.

also, the cheesy “rawk” pose photos don’t help, if he aims to appear in any way authentic.

Sounds more like Nothingface than any grunge band.

“poop”? “fucking shit”? “wanker”? He’s a 14 year old kid, at least try to muster up some damn decency. I know your on the internet and your anonymous and all, but come on…

He’s got a solid foundation for a future in music. Sounds good. At 14, your influences will show more in your music than they will later on once you’ve come into your own a bit more. It’ll be interesting to see what he’ll be able to do as he continues to grow musically.

Kudos to Brett for showcasing new talent on his website.

Exactly Billy; he’s fucking 14. Someone to look out for when he’s in his 20s.

    Dude, that’s not Grunge…

If you want to cover new bands on your blog why not search for some REALLY good band!

    CHECK: JAPANESE VOYEURS (London, UK)
    DINOSAUR PILEUP (London, UK)
    MOTHER OF GOD (Borlänge, SE)

    Thx!

Daniel Johns from Silverchair started around the same age! These are talented kids!

I really like Silverchair´s first 2 albuns. Nowadays, SC sucks! Actually Daniel Johns kinda sucked a lot his microphone while playing Brazil in 2000…. weird kid.

There are awesome bands like SocialBurn and Day of Fire who also feat “Cobain” vocals! I think SocialBurn has broken-up, though.

This is more metal than “grunge”, but at 14 years old, have to give the kid some credit – he’s light years ahead of the typical high school-ish band.

This reminds me more of what Silverchair, Stone Temple Pilots, and Bush tried to do in the 90s. These impostors were a joke in the 90s, and this is no different.

What is he doing on this website?

    this is insane for 14 yrs… :)

My god, you guys don’t like this?! What is wrong with you?! I mean seriously, you hear everyone whining about how there aren’t anymore good singers, and finally this guy comes along, and you aren’t open to it! I think it’s awesome, and I am so glad he isn’t another justin beiber or katy perry.
