MORE NEWS ON MARK LANEGAN’S NEW TOURING LINEUP
Thanks to Martin for translating the Mark Lanegan article I posted a story about earlier:
GHENT – Steven Janssens, frontman of “The Whodads”, guitarist of “Daan” and sound technician for concerts concerning complete Ghent, will be the regular guitarist next spring for none other than Mark Lanegan, who will be in Europe to present his new album “Blues Funeral”. The more even, all the bandmembers of Lanegan are Belgian. “I’ve fallen with my ass in the butter”, was Janssens’ first response (wich is a Dutch expression for being lucky, actually it is “falling with your nose in the butter” but I guess that would not enough describe how lucky he feels).
It is Aldo Struyf of “Millionaire” who pushed Steven Janssens forward. Lanegan and Struyf know each other well after all. Struyf played keys on Lanegans previous solo-album, the unequaled Bubblegum. Struyf already toured with Lanegan with its own group “Creature With The Atom Brain”. Mark Lanegan asked Aldo Struyf to put together a band to accompany him during his tour in Europe next spring. He chose himself, Fred and Jean-Philippe of the Brussels group “Lyenn” and Steven. It is no secret that Janssens is considered to be one of the best guitarist of Belgium. And the man has style: always in suit and he is owner of the best known greased quiff of complete Ghent.
‘This is fantastic of course’, says Janssens. ‘I have seriously fallen with my ass in the butter. I knew Mark Lanegan by name but I had never heard his music. I have already listened to his new album “Blues Funeral” and it sounds terrific. I think also his previous stuff is pretty good. We have already started rehearsing with the four of us. Mark will come to Antwerp and Ghent in December to join us in rehearsing the tracks. And it will probably not remain by that European tour’.
Who Mark Lanegan is? The man with the raw voice of grunge group Screaming Trees. The man who sang on some harder songs of Queens Of The Stone Age and frequently joined them on stage. The man of the groups Soulsavers, The Gutter Twins and Twilight Singers, and numerous other groups which want him for the sound of his raw voice. But also as the animal of his Scottish Belle, Isobel Campbell, with which he already made three beautiful albums. And, but not least, of its own solo-albums. Of which his previous, Bubblegum from 2004, was an instant classic.

strange butter references
yup….thought the same thing.
Got a ticket to his Copenhagen show on the 17th of march 2012—can’t wait!!
Apparently a dutch expression.
Just saw the band onstage, still not quite convinced by the synth-heavy songs but one thing is sure : Steven Janssens rocks.
Leave your response!
