The 5 main categories are the bands that have the most stories posted about them and are active bands. It was either going to be the Pumpkins or Hole as the fifth one. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana are dead unfortunately, therefore news is scarce about them. I do cover Grohl and Foo Fighters though.

Brett – great job with the site.
I’m fine with the inclusion of Billy Corgan/Smashing Pumpkins and I like the Pumpkins as well. However, what is the reasoning behind making them one of the 5 main categories? I would usually suggest Nirvana, but are they being taken out due to lack of news and lack of existence? Just my two cents on the matter.

Anyways, good luck on the website and keep up the good work. Your popularity is rising.

I don’t cover Candlebox. STP are heavily associated with the Grunge era, they may not have originated in Seattle but they had the same spirit and were apart of the same generation, they had the same progressive hard sounds and got popular in 1992/1993, the exact same time that Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden were also popular/gaining popularity. I know STP are not from Seattle but they are very much apart of the Grunge era, literally every article written about them calls them “Grunge rockers” or “Grunge legends.” Also they reunited last year so it made sense to include them.

I miss that era, and the music that change the world. People and ideals were different back then, and sad to say they were so great they sucked out the creation of good music…when the grunge era ended so did the life the music breathed like the 60’s and 70’s. Dont forget to give props to Dinosuar Jr an amazing band which is still writing today!!

I would say Malfunkshun should be included once we look at a wider specturm (not ‘grunge’ per se). And it is missing in ‘Goups’ section. I think Malfunksun was a great influence on the Seattle scene over all

So, mention the word Grunge and out people come from the woodwork to tell you what it ‘really’ means. I love the site Brett, I’m glad I found it after my experiences with you in another community.

Content is content, I think if we can find a place where we can go and hide back in the better days of ‘new’ rock’s zenith and update on what our favorite bands/artists are up to we shouldn’t be bickering over who or what belongs. If you think something is relevant, pass it on and maybe you’ll start seeing your suggestions come to life. If you look at a list of bands and see the words “bands like…” it means these bands and other who are similar or have common ground or a connection so stop quibbling over whatever bands aren’t on the list.

I’d just like to say I would be opposed to adding Smashing Pumpkins. I think your initial instincts were correct – they just don’t quite fit.

Also I will fight the person that lumped in STP with Candlebox.

nice job Brett…thumbs up for you. I agree, STP were part of the grunge ride, although they were not from seattle. And why should you cover those who are not active…not much of news there…since, well not much is going on, although they are intresting like afghan whigs, L7, MLB, Tad or even mighty green river.

Temple of the dogs can be covered under soundgarden or PJ and so on since, like mad season, it was a side project Sadly 2 of 4, or 5 if mark lanegan is included, are dead…I find Mad SeasonÂ´s Above to be my ultimate favourite of all “grunge” lpÂ´s out there.

I did my research before opening it. Look in the Bands section, a lot of the bands you mentioned are in there, I still haven’t added all of them because it is time consuming updating this website. A lot of them just are not active or it’s hard to find news on them.

you should really do your research before coming out with a site like this. the seattle sound also includes unbelievable bands like malfunkshun, green river, pond, PAW, love battery, cat butt, girl trouble, the fluid, the melvins, mother love bone, TAD, temple of the dog, mad season..

you should have another section for post grunge, it’s not the correct term to put bands like stone temple pilots and candlebox under a grunge label.
